The women still wont be as athletic as the men so the speed will still be slower. The women's game is more technical than the mens game right now. The men use more speed and athletic ability but the women run more plays.
I was being kind of sarcastic to point out that there is already rules that are different for women than men. Why make the court smaller? The basket wouldn't move. I have a question? What makes the NBA more entertaining to watch than women's basketball? It's simple, above the rim play. It wouldn't completely cure above the rim play, but it sure would help it. Sure the men are more athletic, but lowering the hoop would only help the appeal of women's basketball. Average women's height has not changed from 6-8" from what I have looked up. Taking it the same approach does not mean they are as physically gifted or should be treated the same. Best example I can give is in the National Guard there is different minimum and max's for the PT test as it pertains to the 2 mile run, push-ups and sit-ups and the women's is lower. It does not mean the National Guard is giving a slight to women, it is just adjusting to the women's physical gifts. Sure there will be a couple that could complete with men, but as a whole the majority couldn't.

No, I do not think woman are inferior to men, but the women's game should not be treated the same as the men's game. If people think this is sexist, than why the heck would Geno coach women's basketball?

Geno needs to look in a mirror.

Lowering the basketball hoop 7.2" won't change the dominant position of UConn, Stanford, and a very small cadre of elite schools. The best thing that can happen at this point is for Geno's teams to be a lot less dominant: That means other schools treating WBB as something other than a federally mandated employment project.

As long as there's a tiny handful of 'haves' and a huge chunk of 'have-nots', you're going to have a hard time drumming up fan interest. People aren't going to start watching these games for the fundamentals. They're going to start because they have some sort of rooting interest in the teams playing.

Maybe they should lower the hoop for everybody but UConn and Stanford.

I'm not watching womens basketball if all they want to do is make a kids game out of it!

Re: Geno wants to lower the basket

I'm all for it, as long as they lower it for men too, because as a short person, I love playing basketball on a 7'6" or 8 foot hoop. Then I feel like I'm 6'8", compared to the 10 foot hoop where I have to try to figure out a jump shot, which is hard for a guy who never could shoot, who then screwed up his shoulder and gained 25 pounds where it doesn't help you.

I've read different opinions on this. I've heard lowering hs womens to 8 foot, and raising NBA hoop to 12 foot and different ideas. the problem ultimately is money. If gyms could have had adjustable hoops for the last 40 years I'm willing to bet some sort of difference would be in place. But its one of those things that is hard to change after the fact because 10 feet and basketball hoop are just common sense. And if it ever was brought up I can already hear the states saying we can't afford adjustable hoops, and ultimately it will never happen.

I do think it would help the women's sport. Not because more men will watch it, but because as stated its a different game, and I think being a different game it alienates more, at a younger age. Just kinda my opinion on the matter. I could (and probably am) completely wrong.

Why would Geno want the hoop lowered? His players are BIGGER, stronger & faster. Advantage UConn. That's the only reason Geno wants it lowered. Bad idea. Leave the hoop alone.
