Ito dont have time to read the article while at work but the headline seems sexist. they already have a smaller ball to use. Should they play only half court games so they dont have to run the whole court too. Just take it back to middle school basketball. that would be cool..

I guess i don't see the sexism in the headline. I don't agree with his premise that better offensive efficiency is gonna elevate fan interest. Imo,that's not the problem. That said,i do agree with his ideas on the regionals and final four.
It is not sexist and it is painful to watch women struggle with layups. With the average height being a 6-8" difference combined with men typically having a higher vertical leap, I think it is genius. Lowering the height of the rim will help the women's game be closer to the men's game but it won't solve all problems around the basket.

He says lower it to 7'2" for the women. ain't Brittany Griner 6'!!"? and aren't there some other really tall ladies out there? Just throw to Griner and let her dunk all day long and hope she doesnt break her forearm doing all those slams, girl wouldn't even have to jump. bad idea there Geno, must be getting a bunch of short ladies to play for him in the future and needs to maintain his edge. when certain chauvinist get over the idea that women cant play sports and buck up and realize they can play a pretty mean game and sports editors around the country put some emphasis on womens sports then maybe the interests of the fans will get into it and attendance at games will improve.

He said to lower it 7.2 inches per Title IX not to 7.2 feet

I don't watch womens basketball that much, are they missing that many layups that it would affect the game that much?

It is more of how much a struggle it is, esp. for guards to compete a layup, contact or not. Having a smaller ball should be a reason to lower the hoops as it already says that women are not as physically gifted as men from average height being 6-8" lower and less of a vertical leap. Sure the current women might think of it as a slight, but in a few years it will be like the rule was like that the whole time. Personally, I think Genos suggestions are ahead of his time.

Or about 50 years behind them...
STUPID idea. The problem isn't the women's game it is that people expect the same game from women as they do the men. Same sport different game. as a former bball player I consider this an insult!

Why? It would improve the game and improve the support of women's basketball. If this is 50 years behind, might as well go ahead and make the ball the same size, make it completely equal. Women's basketball is not the same as men's basketball nor should it be treated the same.

Women players are becoming taller and taller. They take the same approach to the game as men and play as hard as men. Leeshajo is right, its an insult to women totally.

The ball is smaller so the women can shoot it from the same distance easier. If they lower the basket, I don't think it will "make it completely equal". You will have a smaller ball and lower basket but the hoop and court will be the same size. Do you want the basket and court to be smaller to make it closer to completely equal?
The women still wont be as athletic as the men so the speed will still be slower. The women's game is more technical than the mens game right now. The men use more speed and athletic ability but the women run more plays.
