    Re: AJ

I think he would stay sdsu untill a power confrence comes calling. My guess is big 10 maybe big 12. Plus he has a young family now and I think there is something of value in rasing kids in a place like brookings compared to some major markets. Just my 2 cents.

      Re: AJ

AJ has had schools from the power 6 conferences call him regarding coaching positions in the past. I'm not sure how much interest he's received lately. State is just really lucky he's still around.

On the latter point, a lot, maybe even a majority of the Big 10 and Big 12 schools are in cities considerably smaller than Sioux Falls, and a couple are not that much larger than Brookings.

True but aj is probably in the position he can be picky. Just because its a power school calling doesn't mean he has the jump at the first offer. He can pick when he is ready. As far as I know. Brookings in close to family. He has a great recruting area. That's something too. Say he goes a few states over. He needs to find new recruting contacts in the area along with the ones he has. He might just say I've got things going well. I don't need to make a change. I am sure when and if he is ready he will have plently of suitors calling. We know he is a class act and done some amazing things as a coach he will always have chances to move.

If Minnesota ever works up the nerve to can Pam Borton (which hopefully will happen with a new AD in place ),they would be a place that you would think AJ would have interest in. Closer to home, and AJ has gotten a number of quality players out of the Twin Cities area to come to Brookings.

              Re: AJ

To my earlier post about the truck load of cash. On the contrary to my own statement, AJ seems to get the players he wants and the results he wants in Brookings...most coaches don't leave when the gears are working, they wait until they see the program on the verge of decline and get out before it gets bad. AJ seems to be a man of principle but so do the dozens of coaches that move right before their program declines...Not insinuating anything...just another thought.

That's my guess he holds out for years if needed to get that. Most likely a dream situation and great fit. Same recruting area. Family. Home state. Unless. Borton proves worthy and starts winning confrence titles on a regluar basis I would guess AJ would get serious consideration to make the short list.

                  Re: AJ

You can make a case that SDSU's women's basketball head coach job is a better one than Minnesota's.

SDSU's women's basketball program is arguably a top-50 program (due in no small part to AJ himself, of course). SDSU's institutional support for women's basketball is at least equal to the support given the men's basketball program. You can probably count on one hand the number of Division I schools that can say that. Not many schools pay their women's coach as much or more than the men's basketball coach--SDSU does. Last year, SDSU's average women's basketball attendance was #56 in the country, and this from a (very) small population base compared to most other programs. SDSU out-drew most BCS school women's basketball programs--only 44 BCS conference schools had larger per-game attendance than SDSU.

SDSU is a pretty darn good gig, compared to a lot of them.

Parenthetically, there are only two schools that have been in the NCAA Women's basketball tournament field every single time that they were eligible to compete in that tournament. One of them is Tennessee. The other is SDSU.

I'll go ahead and debunk this thread before it goes any farther. I asked AJ himself and he just laughed...good try Yote-punk....go back to one of those $hitty Vermillion bars and come back here with a better more realistic crock of $hit in regards to SDSU athletics.
Even the USD administration will tell you what you want to hear, just to make sure the few USD fans that actually give a crap feel better about their place in SD's D-1 pecking-order....LAST.

Sorry about the smack...this kind of internet BS really pisses me off though.

                    Go Jacks!!

It would not surprise at all if there was nothing to these rumors, but do you really believe that AJ would have admitted to you if he had looked into another job(s) ?

                        No. He would not.

The original post referred to the claim as "rumor". While Drake may be a USD partisan, I don't think he wrote anything to warrant an extreme response. (Take a pill, propar!)

I have no problem with SDSU fans being told(by a USD fan nonetheless) that one of the best women's basketball coaches(coaches in general) SD has ever had(AJ for those of you who are confused) was passed up by a guy that has zero D-1 accolades(other than beating SDSU ONCE) if the rest of you don't.

I'll take AJ's word for it...for me anyway...he's earned it. I guess though for some of you he's got a lot more work to you, considering a few you you think that a job like CSU or Utah State would be something AJ would consider over SDSU. Please go ahead and explain to me what CSU and Utah State' Women's BB programs have over SDSU's.
I honestly can't believe I'm having to argue this point with other SDSU fans.

                                Re: AJ

Not that a guy down in the Big Easy has any knowledge of anything happening at SDSU, but I think when AJ chose to stay rather than move to UWGB that as long as Jackrabbit fans and the AD back his program, that it will take a Big 10, Big 12, possibly A10 or Big East team to entice him out of Brookings. The longer that he is rooted in Brookings, the tougher it will be to get him to volunteer to go elsewhere.

As Filbert points out, AJ is paid higher than the MBB or Football coaches, attendence is very good, and he's getting very intelligent, talented, and skilled young ladies that are buying into his system of play. Very few teams play the platoon system, and only AZ St seems to run it with any more (RPI measured) success than AJ.
