I think the crowd was 2232. The Redhawks shot better from behind the arc than they did at the line. If we would of made our FTs we would of won this game with no problem.
Can tell we are very young, this will get better.
Frias has flashes of greatness and then he just falls apart. Didnt see a lot of Casey tonight.
Cal State Fullerton on Monday is going to be a much tougher team than what we wittnessed tonight.
I will totally agree with the free throw problem and them hitting a ton of three point field goals. We had flashes of good team work and then we would show just the opposite. We took 70 shots. A lot of misses from under the basket too. Berte did a great job on the boards with 16. The turnovers were down a little from past games but there were still some turnovers which could have been eliminated. I thought the reserved seats filled up pretty well so I would have hoped for more than 2200.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--
Filbert, we boxed out alright...I mean we won the board contest by like 16. I think it was just the fact we couldnt put the ball back in the hoop as you said that was tough to watch. Also, the fact that the hawks were unconcious from the arc
Life is going to be this way for a while until they mature as a team.
SEMO... well... they're not good. This was a tough loss against a bad team, and in front of a decent crowd. At one point the crowd gave a derisive cheer when Ben Beran MADE a free throw. The first ten minutes gave a glimpse of what this team could be, but the last 30 minutes demonstrate what happens when a bunch of young players become tentative on offense. There was no spark. Nobody played aggressively. Frias came in and forced a couple of things, and it was actually refreshing that somebody was moving towards the basket for a change.
I'm going to try to focus on the first ten minutes of the game, because we saw what kind of athleticism and teamwork is possible for this bunch.
Anybody else notice that the SEMO players were actually trying to 'Noonan' our players by shouting during our free throws from their bench? I have never seen that from an opposing team... although it seems to have worked. We were 11-23 from the line. Pathetic.
That was something I noticed too. First time I have seen any college team doing that. I don't know what happened maybe during practice this week to put Frias on the bench until late in the second half. We needed someone to drive the lane to create their own shot and open up the other players. He seems to be able to finish most of his drives. We also need more contributions from Andre. He is a good player who hasn't seemed to get this started yet this year. Maybe all he needs in one great game to get himself going.
