I know there's long shots out there, especially in the women's bracket today, but there's always hope.

My guess at the most likely upset would be IUPUI if WIU's offense can compliment their defense enough.

I would like to see Oakland's men get beat, but Oakland is a terrible matchup for UMKC.
Do we have to choose just one? If not all top seeds go down Too much...ok well then IUPUI. I think that is the one team the men might not be able to hurdle for some reason. For women..well...ORU of course.

I'd rather have both IPFW teams go down tomorrow...

IUPUI's top 6 players are extemely talented & athletic. But I'm really wondering if they have the depth to play 3 games in 4 days.

Well Western's offense and defense complimented eachother nicely for 30 minutes last night. It's so difficult to lock down Young and Glenn for a whole game though. Western did a great job frustrating them in the first half last night and Young didn't do squat in the 2nd. However, Glenn is just so athletic and has some basketball skills to go with it. Teams need to get the ball out of both of their hands, especially in transition because they can take it straight to the bucket. I don't know that the Bison are a good matchup against them, much like the Jacks. ORU though with their bruising and beating down low are definately a team that can fluster the Jags.

Oakland, I don't even know what to say. I got to the game last night right when the 'Roos went on their 9-0 run to get within a bucket at 28-26. I had some hope for about 5 minutes. Like I said earlier and Kampe pretty much said it after the game. Oakland is a horrible matchup for UMKC. Benson didn't even play the last 10 minutes. They could have easily scored 100, they were shooting over 60% before he pulled most of the starters, and the rebounding story said it all at over a 20 rebound margin.

They have the best leader in field, they are athletic, can rebound, their cocky and confident, and when they are shooting well, put the kids to bed because it's good night. This is the team to beat. Period.

Too many people say "Well..I don't know the teams"...get out and see them, then!!! Get to know them!!! Oakland is a lot more exciting to watch then any NCC team ever could have been. The price is right too IMO for a night of entertainment.
My wife's family were big holiday tournament goers back in the day. Every year they spent the whole tourney out at the arena. Yesterday I took my mother in law to both sessions because my wife had to work. During the middle of the men's session I commented to her that there was always good basketball to watch during the holiday tourney but there were never athletes on the floor like the ones last night. She couldn't have agreed more. She was blown away.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here but I think we need to take it upon ourselves to get someone to come to these games. Last year, my chiropractor/friend went one night with me and two guys from work went the other. They all want back in this year. Its going to take plenty of work from us and the USD fans to keep this thing in Sioux Falls for the forseeable future.

Re: 2010 Summit League Championship Tourney

Not sure this is the correct place to post this, but what is up with the Summit League and the internet feed for the tourney. I mean this is the biggest event for the conference and for those of us outside the TV coverage area and unable to attend, we rely upon the internet feed to watch the games. The internet feed has no announcers and they set up a mike next to two people keeping track of the stats. They use foul language and belched into the mike. I don't know who for the Summit League has in charge of the internet feed, but I can't believe that they can't do better. A whole lot better. The internet feed for the games was better last year than this year. Can't they get some announcers?

Now on the flip side, I want to commend the Argus Leader for their coverage of the tourney. The articles, the pregame video shows, the press conferences, twitter updates and Live Blog have been great. They have really exceeded my expectation.

I wish the Summit League would really take a pro-active role in providing better coverage with their internet feeds, during the regular season and during the tourney.

You are so correct. It's terribly disappointing the Jacks men are not in this thing, but if you want to watch some damn good basketball, head over to the arena tonight and tomorrow night. 1. To help out the SF Sports Authority keep this thing in SF and 2. Because these teams are big, athletic and fast and now and then there's some good shooting involved.

ORU and IUPUI is a contrast of two styles that is going to be great. ORU may be a bunch of whiny babies, especially Dominque "the Duck" Morrison who was injured more times last night than I could count and proceeded to be healthy enough take over the game in OT. But man do they play some physical ball. To go along with the piss and moan Robert Glenn and Alex Young from IUPUI who must go nuts getting banged around and slapped in the face by ORU and not getting calls.

I have no hope for IPFW. This is still Oakland's tournament to lose.

                    What game were YOU watching??

                    • ORU went the ENTIRE second half AND all but the last 11 seconds of overtime without getting to the free throw line ONCE.

                    • Morrison played 43 of a possible 45 minutes in last night's overtime win, guarding Tveidt most of the time.

                    • ORU played the last 10 minutes of the game AND the 5-minute overtime WITH THE SAME FIVE GUYS, due to injuries and foul outs - AND PLAYED MAN DEFENSE THE WHOLE GAME.

And they're "a bunch of whiny babies"?

                    Really?

Would you even recognize "toughness" if it came up and introduced itself?

Well, they did get an extended break in the second half when they decided that they were done scoring for awhile.

That being said, it should be a great semi-final night on the men's side, and the women's bracket is setting up to be a pretty entertaining final.

I never said they weren't tough. They're easily the toughest team in this field. But if you're going to play rough and tough, poke people in the eye and grab jerseys off picks, don't b!tch every time a foul gets called on you. They're getting away with as much as is getting called, which is fine as long as the refs are consistent.

"The Duck" Morrison sprained his ankle twice, broke his finger and hand and had a concussion throughout the game and then his Wolverine powers healed his injuries and ripped off 7 points in OT. Oakland had some kind words for him in introductions also. There's a reason. He's a good player, don't get me wrong, but he's a drama queen.

I said in a previous post I wasn't impressed with Morrison. But when ORU played in Brookings, I was impressed with Niles and Stokes. They just seemed to be in more control than Morrison.

Just went back and looked at how the 2 teams played against each other this year. Niles for ORU lit 'em up for 39 points in Jan. And Glenn averaged 26.5 points for those 2 games.

Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

For those who have ever questioned whether the Summit League is really better than the top end days of the NCC, if you were at the games last night, you had your questions answered. And for those of you from Udot who are not at these games and are enthralled with the Great West RPI over 300 league tournament and think you are up there with these top end teams of the Summit, HA.

The two games last night were phenomenal. I'm confused at why Yearby was not playing a lot for IPFW again yesterday, but they did a great job for about 30 minutes of that game of keeping up with the Grizz. You could just feel it slip away for them. Jones was not great for Oakland yesterday and IPFW did a very good job flustering Benson on the offensive end, and somehow he still had 17 points. "Cush" might be rounder than he is tall by the time he's a senior, but he was very good yesterday. IPFW shouldn't hang their heads, they just couldn't find the bucket for just a little too long.

The second game was just crazy. I don't know if I've ever seen an athetic display like the Jags put on in the first half. They were just too fast and athletic for ORU and then they hit the wall with 13:00 to go. The wall being the full court press. I don't know if I've seen a team fall apart at the seams that quickly since, well we Jacks fans know when. I thought Ron Hunter was either going to explode or kill the next guy who turned the ball over. Then somehow the Jags composed themselves for just long enough to seal it.

Two impressive games by four very good teams. It should be a good one tonight. I still think Oakland has been gearing up for one game all year and it's this one. Grizzlies 72 Jags 65.
