    Re: Oakland Golden Grizzlies

    One more thing:

I won't be missing Jones. Or Nelson. Or Benson (if he goes pro). And I don't think anybody else on the floor showed the Jacks anything they couldn't handle.

The more the team plays hard like tonight and continue to improve, the corwd will respond and grow.

Great effort tonight. Should have won it. No way Oakland wants anything to do with us in Sioux Falls!

Great to see Mark get in and play well. IMHO, he got hosed on a couple foul calls. Also, Rader came in and gave some real quality minutes, made a shot or two, and knocked down some free throws.

It just seemed like we were a little tentative the last few minutes. Several players would make a drive and the shot was there but elected to pass it out. Need to stay aggressive and close the deal.

I like where we are headed. You can see the teams confidence growing. Going to be fun the rest of the way!

Go get a couple on the road fellas!

Reread my post and felt I needed to add to it because it sounded like I was totally pleased with game and aw, shucks we'll get them next time.

They need to be very upset that they let this opportunity get away. The effort and intensity was fine but the next step for this team is learning how to finish games. We had the chance and didn't get it done. That is the largest hurdle for them to overcome to be a contender. Be pissed off you lost and channel that into determination to fet it done the next game!

As I said above, I love where they are headed. If they contunue with the same effort level they will be in every game and give themselves more opportunities to be comfortable in the last few minutes with the game on the line.

You have to learn how to walk before you can run! Keep it up guys!

I'll be the first to admit that I have not been the most optimistic fan of the Mens Basketball program the last few years. But...(prepare yourself for this)...Even tho we lost last night, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I saw a group of guys come together and give a good team a run for their money. I was sad about the loss, but I walked out of Frost Arena with my head high saying that we're going to get there. Sure there were the turnovers, but we were in the game. I won't apologize for anything I've said before, but can see where the program is going and I like what I see. I'm sure some of you will have to read this post twice, but get the smelling salts out and read it again! GBGBGJ

Kampe should have had a T. The older ref was pro-Oakland. Every time Kampe said anything to him, a foul was called against the Jacks. As for the intentional foul, how many steps was that guy going to take before he went up for his dunk? That was the only poor series for Nate (turnover then the 'intentional' foul). Nate is sure not playing like a freshman, like others have stated. I made the comment after the second trip down the court for Oakland that they are trying to slow the game down a little bit. I haven't looked at their box scores for the year but you have to believe they aren't very deep. They would speed it up when they wanted to and they could really speed it up.

I didn't see the game in person, so I will defer to all you who did, but I am wondering: are we tipping a little toward the ref's excuse that we so dislike about the Bison when THEY lose? Was it one sided or poorly called or was it just a physical game that the Jacks unfortunately lost to a pretty good team? Just askin'... We all slam Bison faithful for good reason when they whine about refereeing.... I'd hate to see this board sink to their level.

I think the league officiating is poor overall. Calls are so inconsistent the players have a hard time adjusting. I don't think calls are one sided(we get away with as much as the other team).

Benson is a good BB player. But, going pro? I watch a ton of BB and I see 50 D1 players with much better skills than Benson has. If he goes pro you will hear very little about him.

Great effort last night gentlemen. Those efforts will pay off in wins. This is a dangerous BB team. Last year teams look at us an a likely win. This year I don't think they want anything to do with us. I like what I see and the future looks bright.

If/When Benson goes pro, I think he will have a pretty serviceable career. He probably won't be a guy that averages double figures in scoring, but rather more of a role player in for rebounding and defense. He'd be a great compliment to a scoring power forward such as Al Jefferson.
If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.

Most draft NBA analysis I've seen on him show him as a mid first round pick if he comes out this year. Personnaly I'm much more Impressed with him than Brackens from Iowa State who some have said could be a lottery pick.

Benson has that rare athleticism and length that will give him every oportunity to prove himself at the next level. I think he could be a Joe Smith type player - without all hype of going early in the draft.

After reading some of the earlier posts I must say I disagree about the crowd. I thought the students did their part (even getting the Oakland coaching staff's reaction a number of times if you were watching closely) and the rest of the crowd cheered when the team needed them. Is there room for improvement? Of course! However, I think this was a great warm up for the NDSU game. What a great game to attend! If the Men keep playing like they did last night Frost will be rocking again soon enough!

I had to give up my ticket, because I ended up puking my guts out all day yesterday. Bummer to see the Jacks lost, from the looks of it, Oakland should've been going home with a loss.

                            They basically play a 7 man rotation to SDSU's 9/10 man rotation. Their 8th & 9th players got 4 & 7 minutes.

And my thinking is those 8th & 9th guys played because Nagy's been good at getting Benson into foul trouble.

Also, I have to think Benson's stock is enhanced by his ability to hit free throws. Dang few big men, it seems, are good at free throws these days.

I think you have some very good points about the differences in the last forty or fifty years, but I see appreciably more student involvement in larger schools. The percentage of students at an Oklahoma or Missouri game and SDSU should be proportional. If nothing else, there should be a higher interest in a smaller school since the students should be more personally involved with the student-athletes (same size squad spread around more students) much as entire towns used to show up for basketball games in small towns (probably don't do that anymore either).
One thing is that some students go to these schools because they are fans of the teams. I dont think there is a whole lot kids going to SDSU because they are Jackrabbit fanatics, IMHO. Also, these school are often times playing against another powerhouse or team that is nationally ranked. I'm sure if SDSU was ranked in the top 25 and the team we were playing was as well, and College GameDay was in the building and so on, students would be much more involved.

I have been on this forum from the beginning and this had to be one of the most lame posts I can recall and that is saying a lot with Lakes and his aliases. Guess we need to get College Game Day to Brookings so kids start showing up. Give me a break! And by the way' I thought the energy created by the students and the entire crowd was awesome last night!
