    Re: Oakland Golden Grizzlies

    Kai misses the first.

SDSU needs 3, meaning Kai needs to intentionally miss, get it back out beyond the 3 point line, and nail the 3. Hard but in 2.3 seconds not impossible.

I think this game shows just how good Oakland is. The Jacks played good, should of shot FT's a little bit better and cut down on the TO's but they shot 50%, and rebounded well.

pretty good game just really bad timing on some of the turnovers and missed free throws. Oakland can be beat...

I think you have to put this one solidly in the Should Have Won category. We had Oakland where we wanted them despite way, way too many turnovers, but just didn't make enough plays in the closing minutes to seal the win.

Most interesting stat for me. Blocks SDSU 2, OU 0. IIRC one was Engen on Benson & second was Wolters on Benson.

                      Re: Oakland Golden Grizzlies

                      Good, but disappointing effort.

Question-- Since it was such an important game, why didn't the students get into it more? Seemed better than last year's NDSU game which sounded like a lot of squeaky shoe soles and paled in comparison to a UCM-Northwest Missouri game I saw on TV the next day.

When I attended Oklahoma as a graduate student in the late sixties, their ancient field house was a morgue and was nothing like attending a game at SDSU. Now everything in the Dakotas seems strangely quiet. The Cornell Board was making a lot of fun of USD fans during their game-- of course I assume the Dome doesn't lend itself to basketball and the students were gone.

I guess I just don't understand. What happened to old-timey team spirit on the part of the student body? It certainly exists in more prestigious conferences.

I should add that when I drove up to WIU for a game last year, I had to ask three or four students before anyone could tell me where the field-house was.

                        Re: Oakland Golden Grizzlies

Effort was there tonight - good thing. Several bad decisions with the ball and poor free throw shooting at critical times was the difference. Should leave no doubt in the teams minds that they can win this league tournament. Frustrating, but Oakland is definitely a good team. We caught a break with them shooting below their season average from the charity stripe. We can beat these guys in Sioux Falls when it matters most.

Not sure on that TV kept stating how great the crowd was & how loud it was in there. Maybe it doesn't translate well on the radio feed.

Nagy: Difference is we had 17 turnovers and they had 7. End of first half we have 4 or 5 in a row.
Effort was there. Proud of our kids. Oakland is tough.
Would rather feel this was (pour everything into it and feel so bad) than the regret of losing after not giving good effort (I paraphrase).
                            ...
Thinks we lost it in the first half -- had a chance to really stick it to them.

Guys played well and hard. Too many TO's. Had our chances and should have won. Hopefully we can ruin their home stand.

                                Coach Nagy's comments
Big difference was turnovers- our 17 to their 7
Effort was there- proud of them
They were a little tougher than us and made a few more ft's when they needed them
                                Give Oakland credit
Part of life- sometimes you pour your heart into something and still you don't achieve what you want
Maybe should have doubled Benson more- can't allow a guy to get 23 points on us
Lost the game in the first half- had a chance to really stick it to them but didn't get it done
Need to go compete in the next two on the road which are both winnable
