    Re: NDSU game thread

Watching the game, you just could see NDSU wanting the win more than the Jacks. After playing a decent first half, the first 5 minutes of the second half were horrible. And I can't fault for the fans to single AC out a little bit more than other players. He seems to be a TO machine this year. Hate to call him out but if you can't make a free throw, please don't take a jumper at the free throw line. I didn't hear the info regarding illness on the team until I got on the forum. I was really thinking Tony could have been a nice contributor tonight and didn't know why he wasn't on the court. Guess that could be one reason. Need to get the guys healthy and get ready for the next game. Maybe Mark should get the start next game to light a fire in AC.

I dont quite understand why people are using the term embarrassing to describe this loss. embarrassing would have been losing by 20 or more points. we were within a point in the last 5 or 6 minutes, werent we? embarrassing is losing to sw st or morningside. ndsu is not that bad of a team. they almost beat oral roberts up there. now that we've won some games , we seem to expect these kids to win them all. i wonder how the jayhawk fans felt when they went to tennessee and got beat by a couple of walk ons. now that might have been embarrassing. even the top teams in the country stumble. maybe it was embarrassing to you because it was on ksfy and more people saw it? when you go out today, dont be too embarrassed to put on your jacks sweatshirt, i know i will. cause im not embarrassed to wear it, after a loss.

we have 5 of the next 7 games at home. there is no reason we cant go 6-1 in that stretch. we beat oakland here last year, we can do it again this year. winning at oral roberts will be tough but heck, we beat em here. sorry if im being too optimistic for some of you.

on calling TO's, Nagy probably thought this game was going to go down to the wire and maybe wanted to save the timeouts for the last few minutes when he thought the game would come down to last second strategy with the last shot counting. he knew a timeout was coming that one time so why not save one. like a pro football coach waiting for the two minute warning.

Much better that it be on the road against a team that will be very beatable at home, than against, say Oakland at Frost next Saturday.

              ---

And regarding Nagy not calling a time-out: The team needs to learn how to answer runs like that on its feet, because that's the style of ball that Nagy's teams will play--it's a mental toughness that can offset just about any other advantage. They will learn how to turn the tide themselves, and will be a better team for it. It's a long season, and for some of these players, it's still very early in their careers.

Size gets out hustled. How many times did smaller people reach in on the big guys last night to strip the ball? Size wouldn't have helped last night without more energy. Did health play a factor? Don't know since we don't know who was hit with what. It's still a win for NDSU.

                  This ^^^

...and I hope the team studies how Michael Tviedt plays ball, as I just can't be impressed enough with that kid from an effort stand point on both sides of the ball.

Also, as much as this lose pains me, it wasn't embarrassing, nor does it change the fact that we are on pace to have our best season in years. If the Bison beat us at Frost this year, then I might have to take a couple days hiatus from sdsufans.com.

Yes it seems like the loss in Fargo was similar to a market correction on Wall street. When certain equities gain in price very quickly, they often experience a market correction, where those who hold gains sell off and take profits, and so goes mentally for our guys. Like the market our guys will be back.

Great game, loved the energy from ndsu and its fans. From a bball standpoint, the refs were horrible on BOTH sides, I actually felt embarassed for them a couple times. I saw NDSU outhustle, outmuscle the rabbits, if they could of made a layup downlow it was a 20pt ndsu win.

#10 and #20 can flat out shoot for sdsu, the fact of the matter is ndsu & sdsu are good teams, but neither will compete with oakland/iupui this year at the summit.

not to bring up football recruiting, but seeing ndsu recruits by the student section watching preston evans and most of the football team going crazy and yelling (calling out wolters everytime he touched the ball) & at the SDSU players & game, it left quite the impression!

Well, at least Moss showed over and over again that he can jump high and touch the rim.

Dear KSFY...if you can't afford to bring your own crew to the basketball game I would rather just listen to it on the radio. And, perhaps you should look into sending an actual play-by-play/color guy and not your sports director. Just because he knows sports doesn't mean he knows how to call them..

25 minutes of lackadaisical play interrupted by 15 minutes of great effort. What a crappy arena. Credit to the Bison players for defending their home court and showing pride in their program, the defending Summit league champions and a program that gave Kansas all they wanted in the first round of the NCAA tourney last year. I don't understand why our guys don't have more fire under their butt at the start of the game and the start of the second half. It may not be right to call the loss embarrassing but the general opinion of the 10 or so Jackrabbit fans I talked to at the hospital this morning is that the apparent lack of effort is concerning. Perhaps looks are deceiving and that impression is incorrect.

Would that be the same Preston Evans (and his classmates) who have never beaten Jacks in football? Maybe that explains their enthusiasm.

Now, regarding all the negativity about the Jacks' effort Friday night in basketball. Watching the second half was frustrating but not embarassing. Calling the performance embarassing is too harsh. The Jacks are an improved basketball team, but they don't have a big margin for error, like great teams have. The Bison probably played as well as they could. The Jacks didn't.

                                Re: NDSU game thread

I recall a few years ago some Bison faithful claiming SDSU measured success by whether SDSU could beat NDSU.

Last night was a big win for NDSU given the season they've had and will continue to struggle with this year. Probably the most important win of the season. The Bison deserved to win last night based on their effort. But for the Jackrabbits, I think it's an example of what can happen on the road in the tough Summit League. SDSU had a letdown after several very good games. If SDSU had won, it would not have been the most important win of the season.

I thought the difference in the game was the effort...Jacks seemed a little down at times and the Bison showed they wanted the win badly.

My, how things have changed: NDSU measures success by whether it beats SDSU (in fairness, this comment may only apply to loudmouth fans).
