    Re: NDSU game thread

No, I am with you JF96. I have started two posts and deleted them because I didn't want to be too critical. IMO your comments are fair. But several players seemed to be operating at 80% tonight. We cannot have our leading scorers all disappear for the majority of a half. Interior defense was poor, but defensive rebounding may have been worse. Why can't we seem to bring it (max, gritty, kick your a** effort) every game? I cannot comprehend games like this, especially given the demonstrated potential of the team.

I understand Fiegen didn't play much if at all because he had whatever the other guys on the team had this week. If Cordova doesn't figure things out quickly, he's going to spend a lot of time watching--from the bench--as Fiegen and Engen take up most of the minutes at the center spot the rest of the year.

But I do feel a bit bad singling out Cordova--nobody wearing blue exactly covered themselves with glory in the second half . . .
With the exception of Engen. He's definitely a deep bench player (8-10 spot) but the few minutes he had in the 2nd half, 6 pt and a couple of rebounds. Quality off the bench.

Good point . . . Engen earned some more court time with his play tonight . . .

I have two points about tonight's game from my perspective. First, I can't stand Nagy as a coach. I thought he had ample opportunities to call TO when the Bison went on a run in the second half but he just let us continue to surge.
Second, Wolters is going to score a lot of points in this league. Kid shows a lot of confidence for a true frosh.

Oh please people...do not go off the deep end because we lost one game that we probably should have won. People are already starting with the Nagy comments....it is only one game. We are still 5-2 in conference and have played 5 of them on the road. I think if we said this is where we would be at the beginning of the season many people would have taken it. As far as Nagy not calling a timeout, I agree there was a time or two where I thought he should have but I'm not going to sit here and say I cant stand him as a coach. As the saying goes, he has forgotten more about basketball than I have ever known and I trust him with the program. He could have been trying to teach his team as well. He is not always going to have a timeout to call, so he may have wanted to see how his team reacted to adversity. Just a thought.

I'll sit here and roll my eyes at bi-polar Jack fans like packer tattoo that seem to only show up when these guys lose...but for an NDSU fan to come on here and make a comment that ..."I can't stand Nagy as a coach...blah...blah...blah... **** OFF and go back to Bisonville.

Filbert...I'll take my week punishment...I haven't been real interested in posting lately with all the NDSU, Bisonville trash posting on here lately anyway.

NDSU was playing with 8 guys, they faded in the last 5 minutes of the 1st half the only chance the Jacks had at the time when people were saying "call a TO" was to ware them out and calling a TO would of helped the Bison more then the Jacks.....

I think some of the heat on Cordova is a lil over-board, a lot of those easy buckets came after the guards got beat and Cordova helped, then he didn't rotate back properly....

                    Re: NDSU game thread

Game was definately winnable, but I didn't miss my prediction of a 6 pt Bison win by much...was definately closer than a 12 point margin.

Defense was definately terribad. Had we not gone stone cold to start the 2nd half, SDSU would probably have won. Engen did play a little better late, but I thought he had some costly turnover's too.

                    We'll get 'em next time.

Agree with the AC comment, but disagree on the time out. I think that one should have been called early in the second half instead of waiting for the media timeout. However, this affected the outcome of the game about as much as Bartman's catch cost the Cubs that game. Players didn't play and I hope there is a direct correlation between the illness going around and the effort displayed. Give the Bison credit, they came out and took the second half.

I think Nagy's comment in the post game show pretty much sums it all. The NDSU team wanted the game more than SDSU. That often is how you win games.

                          Re: NDSU game thread

Let's be honest. Asking this team to win four consecutive road games & break a 6 game losing streak against the Bison was a tall order, and they weren't up to it.

I think we all knew that the Jacks were due for a letdown game of some sort sooner or later, and now we've seen it.

Much better that it be on the road against a team that will be very beatable at home, than against, say Oakland at Frost next Saturday.

                          ---

And regarding Nagy not calling a time-out: The team needs to learn how to answer runs like that on its feet, because that's the style of ball that Nagy's teams will play--it's a mental toughness that can offset just about any other advantage. They will learn how to turn the tide themselves, and will be a better team for it. It's a long season, and for some of these players, it's still very early in their careers.

                            Re: NDSU game thread

                            I just don't get it.

1st - Did you watch, among other Bison players, Tviedt work without the ball on the offensive end? The guy is a b*tch to guard. I just have to wonder why our shooters Garrett, Kai and Sarg don't work near that hard (moreso Kai and I suppose Sarge) to get shots.

2nd - I apologize in advance for being harsh, but I am a SDSU fan w/ an opinion on an SDSU opinion board. AC is pathetic. He's gotten so lazy it's unbelievable. I recorded and watched the game and had the oppotunity to rewind and watch him several times. Just lazy. Stands there and watches shots in the air instead of getting a body on someone. And on offense. He was so successful early on b/c he was getting inside position. Saul tells his guys to move AC out of there and they did. All of the sudden AC is catching the ball 3-5 feet further away from the basket. Coincidence that we won at UMKC w/ a small lineup and AC on the bench down the stretch. Sorry, he's LAZY, that's the honest truth and if you can put up an argument to that I'd love to see it.

3rd - I honestly have not seen a team that gives away more points in the paint. The first 5 minutes was a joke. We go for every ball fake, we get caught on a screen and then run full speed out to make it up, which they dribble and are gone. Probably just need to play one the rest of the way. Make teams beat us from outside.

4th - I will not put this loss on the officials, but wow. In the second half in particular SDSU had to bleed to get a foul. I don't even know what the foul shooting was but I guess they shot 15 more than us? The call where Wolters didn't get a foul and then they give the ball to NDSU and the call where Engen was called for traveling (which would've cut it o 5 w/ 2:30 left) were laughable. To be fair, NDSU had plenty to bitch about as well.

5th - I thought we were in the money when Tviedt came back in, with 3 fouls, and started out guarding Nate (who took him to the rack and scored). But Nate needs to be more aggressive. Even if he isn't always successful driving to the rim he will still take pressure off of our outside shooters.

6th - Our outside shooters. Kai, Garrett and Sarg are great outside shooters but it doesn't matter if we can't get them shots, like tonight.

7th - We're still fine. We have 5 road games out of the way and are still 3-2 on the road. We lost a road game against our biggest rival, not the end of the world. We're not going to win the conference and we won't fall below fourth. Next year is the real beginning anyway. We'll still finish above .500 this year and top 4 in conference, a nice stepping stone.

Man, we ought to be really worried. The naysayers come out of the woodwork when Jacks drop their second Summit game and a Bison fan of a 6-11 team can't stand our coach. Nagy's history now.
