    Re: Butler University

    55-29 Butler.

I wonder what you have to do to get our guys to come out of the locker room and play right away, rather than waiting untill they dig themselves a good-sized hole?

Fans have been saying that since Nagy became coach. Remember when Northern torched us from 3 in that D-II playoff game in Frost? One more thing the coach will need to learn--if you let them take 3's in D-I, they will beat you over the head with it.

Amen my brother. I was ready to jump out of the stands and deny Miller the ball myself. Geez, don't bring up that game!!

Horan now 5-6 from the field, all 3's and 3-3 from the line when fouled taking a 3.  Take some pride as a defender and don't let him get the ball.  If he does make him put it on the floor.  Is he that much better than our defenders?

They are now 12-17 on 3's and lead 63-33.

            Re: Butler University

These guys have to be frustrated.  Beran really struggling.  Cadwell can't get off a shot.  No help from Heien or Kleinjan.  I can't imagine getting blown out night after night is any fun.  I certainly don't have any answers.  These guys appear talented but just don't have anything as a team.  Can't defend, can't handle the ball, and can't score.

Granted, Butler is a decent team.  However, after watching things last week and following the outcome tonight I don't see us competing with many teams this year.  I don't think this is overly critical, just my observations.

73-35 Butler blowing the roof off Frost. Will probably be the worst loss in the history of Frost arena.

              Re: Butler University

Butler, Middle Tennessee State, and Utah State were the three extraordinarily tough teams left on the schedule.

Montana State is beatable, as are Utah Valley State and Texas-Pan American. NDSU looks to be ahead of SDSU right now in overall progress but it's enough of a rivalry that we have a good chance in those two games.

The guys just need to work on improving their own games and improving their play as a team. Score doesn't really matter right now, just showing improvement.

A good place to start would be improving the defense. You can't allow someone to come into your building and shoot over 60%.

Nagy's said all year that this is a team that doesn't yet know how to win. The place to learn how to win is at home. This is a good time to start.

They had 5 guys in double figures. I'd be stunned if SDSU has ever been beaten this badly at Frost.

What else is there to say? Something has to change or these kids and our fans are going to give up on this season.

                      Nagy Comments:

It started back before the Minnesota game, I don't know what it is, need to spend some time individually with the players. Butler coach had a way better game plan. We need to figure out what's wrong in a hurry.

Lack of concentration, guards falling asleep. You try to get your kids ready, sometimes they execute, sometimes they didn't. Butler had a purpose, we didn't.

We forced more turnovers than they normally have, but physically they just manhandled our guys, beat our kids up. We got very few good shots because they pushed us away from the basket.

Matt C. just had a tough night. Ridiculous to expect him to score 25 a night. We need to get Ben scoring inside. Last year he was making shots he's missing this year.

Mohammed is high-energy emotional player, he feels he has to carry the team because we're a pretty quiet team.

Anybody here tonight sees we have problems with our team.

Dang! This is hard to watch. There are alot of theories out there as to what's wrong with this team, is Scott Nagy still above question?

He has been questioning himself lately. I've had questions about his defensive philosophy for years. At the DII level he had a hard time winning the big games. At the DI level the competition is greater.

Best as I can tell he asks his perimeter players to force the ball handler to the baseline and he doesn't switch on perimeter screens. This allows a lot of space for 3-point shooter. Maybe a change towards forcing the ball handler to the middle of the court where more help is available would prevent excess open looks. Granted, this provides more opportunity to attack the front of the rim. Clearly, we can't outscore our opponents.

As for offense, slowing things down just doesn't seem to work at all. Forcing the inside game isn't working as our big guys just are DI quality with their back to the basket. Outside shooting is streaky at best and generally poor. We turn it over too much and don't make enough free throws.

Too many questions and no answers from me.

I was at the game.  Butler was impressive.  Every one of their players handled the ball well and could shoot.  The statistics were impressive and few teams lose when they shoot 60% from the field including from 3-pt land.

                              Re: Butler University

I was at the game tonight so I will make my comments. First, there is no way in hell Butler had more turnovers. The stats being put up showed they had more turnovers than us. We need to handle the ball and pass the ball better. This was unreal.

Second, how can you beat a team shooting over 60% from the floor including way over 60% from 3 point land. We had players running all over the place to cover the shooters.

Third, the only person rebounding was Berte. The Jacks shouldn't have been outrebounded by them.

Fourth, they played very good defense against our shooters. Matt had one open 3 point shot and Heien didn't have one. Ben just had a horrible night shooting. I haven't seen Ben have this bad of a game. I almost think he is putting too much pressure on himself to score.

Two plays that should have signaled how the game was going to go. The Jacks shoot and the ball hits the rim. After the ball is rebounded, the shot clock goes off. The ref called a shot clock violation. WHAT??? The second, the Jacks had the ball and the shot clock was getting low. Matt throws the ball up for Andre and Andre slams it between the rim and the backboard and the ball gets stuck. I was just shaking my head for most of the game.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

I too was at the game. Butler is a well coached team. I was wondering if the coaches name was Norman Dale, ;D.  I suppose if that character from the movie "Hoosiers" was a real person he would be very old now but maybe the current Butler coach is a grandson of Norman Dale.  He did not need a barbershop full of fans to tell him how to coach.

We could learn a lot about boxing out from Butler. Everytime we shot the ball and missed there was about four dark blue jerseys in the paint. Our guys could not get near a rebound.

Its a head scratcher for sure.
