Wolters, Rader, White, Fiegen all looked good. Wolters has the quicks to beat people off the dribble and the athleticism to do something with the ball once he's in the paint. Rader hit a couple of threes and rebounded well. White hit a couple of threes, I think. Fiegen battled in the paint.

We're actually a pretty deep team this year. That's a fun change.
          Holy nutmeg!

...still recovering from a tweaked knee. Coach Nagy sounded as if Kai would be 50/50 to play against Wyoming in a few days (during post game interview)...basically said the decision is up to Kai and the trainers.

                Re: GDT--Dakota State

Granted, only an exhibition game, but my thoughts:

I was impressed with Rader. I'm sure there will be times this year where it will be obvious he is a RSF, but with the added weight from a RS year he can play inside or out.

Wolters looked pretty good. It makes me nervous to have a Freshman starting point guard, but he looks to have the skills to compete.

Feigen and White played ok, but neither looked like a difference maker. I still think it would be a good idea to redshirt White so he gets 100% healthy. I think you could make an argument that he hasn't been 100% since his sophomore season of highschool.

The rest of the regulars looked about as expected.

I was particularly impressed with the ball movement last night. This has been something that has been lacking since the DII days. It got a little better in stretches last year, but was still pretty lacking at times.

I also liked how we pushed the ball. With a deeper bench this year, if we can wear opponents out by pushing the tempo, more games will come out in our favor.

                  Re: GDT--Dakota State

I agree with what SF_Rabbit_Fan said and will add the following:

                  1. The overall athleticism of the team has been elevated tremendously. Height, size, and speed are all way up. Team depth is going to be a strength.

                  2. Wolters showed some good stuff. He made some penetrations and then fed the ball to Callahan, Sargent, and others for some wide open looks inside the arc. He also took the ball to the hole a couple times. His 3-point shot isn't a text book stroke but if he shoots a good percentage that doesn't matter.

                  3. Not sure what percentage we shot from field, 3-point line but we had a open looks all night but didn't shoot well from my view.

                  4. Rader was very active on the boards and knocked down a couple threes. Really liked what I saw from him last night.

                  5. Fiegen played well. We need his size in there a lot. Put up a couple nice looking jump hooks. Didn't go in but loved the shots.

                  6. White looked good. He really presents a problem for the other team. Put a little guy on him and he goes inside. Put a big on him then he can take you outside. Has a lot of qualities that Kai has.

                  7. AC looked a little off. He's the one guy I'm not worried about.

                  8. Callahan #20 and Sargent were pretty smooth last night. They are going to be solid all year. Really could benefit from Wolters at point.

                  9. MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL. This was an exhibition! Dakota State doesn't provide much of a challenge. The game was in hand the whole way but the Jacks looked sloppy at times. That doesn't suprise me given that there were so many young players on the floor. Way too many turnovers.

Nagy, Klinkefus, and Hansen have to be excited to have this many weapons at their disposal. Just gives them options we haven't had since the D2 glory years when it comes to overall team depth. We should be able to provide non-stop defensive pressure on our opponents.

Looking forward to seeing the Jacks take on Wyoming this weekend!

I watched the entire game last night. Overall I wasn't all that impressed with anyone. Radar is the only one that stuck out somewhat. Wolters didn't take take anyone off the dribble all night. I expected them to look better against a team that was picked last in the DAC. Jacks shot well from the outside but struggled on the inside and off the dribble. It's early so I'm giving the team the benefit of the doubt but overall not impressed.

I need to be honest about my Rabbits. I was NOT impressed. Don't care what the circumstaces were, pre-season game, first game, played 16 players etc. You need to blow out a team like Dak State. Simple as that.

Are we improved from last year? Certainly. Have we improved enough to compete in the Summit? No. NCC maybe, Summit, NO. If this team hits the 500 mark it will be a very sucessful season.

I love my Jacks. Just don't love what I see.

I am a little worried that our starting pg played 20 minutes without an assist.

I seem to be in a disagreeable mood lately, but look on the bright side chains and augie.

There were about 20 minutes played by guys who will likely not play a meaningful minute all season. Spread those minutes around to the big dogs, and we likely have a larger spread.

AC and Clint Sargent played 14 minutes, or about a quarter and a half of the entire game, and Garret Callahan had 13 points in 16 minutes of action.

                        And Kai didn't even play.

If AC, Clint, Garrett, and Kai play their usual minutes (I would guess around 22-30 depending on the guy), we win this game by 40 or more.

Hey, I can't disagree with your feelings either. There were a lot of mistakes out there. I could have easily taken my post and talked about the same things you did. There were some things that I liked and feel we are going to be a heck of a lot better.

Let's leave it at what it was. A non-competitive exhibition. We will all have a lot more to base things off of after the Wyoming game when our best players will be playing the most minutes. That will be a more accurate barometer.

                            Re: GDT--Dakota State

I watched the entire game and I was satisfied with what I saw. I knew some people would be upset by the score, and I would have too if I didn't watch it, but Nagy had no interest in running up the score. Sargent and Callahan (plus no Kai) played limited minutes even though they were shooting very well, and Nagy also played a lot of lineups that you won't see in a regular game. My guess was Nagy was trying to put lineups out there to force some of our key freshman (Wolters, Rader, White, Fiegen) to be assertive, as the veterans can't always be the ones to carry the scoring.

Early season opponents Wyoming and Purdue won their final exhibition games by 16 and 22 points, respectively, against D-II Regis and Kentucky Wesleyan, respectively. Syracuse lost its last exhibition by three points to Division II Lemoyne, then blew out D-1 Albany by 32 last night. Judge the team when the lights come on.

I watched the game and was not overly impressed but liked what I saw. At times there were four freshman on the court for State. Wolters did a good job and got a good steal. When they shot from long range, instead of thinking they got a basket and going down court they stayed and waited for a rebound in case of a miss. They were hustling for loose balls, going for rebounds, and looking for the open man. AC tried to force some shots from in close and was stripped of the ball or tied up a lot. Later he was passing back out. Engen showed some muscle down under and scored some baskets in close. There were some blown easy lay ups and such but the big guys were even getting treys to fall. It was said earlier that this game was going to be a vanilla game with not a lot of offensive plays being shown and a lot of different player combinations looked at. It was also used to see who would red shirt.
