    Re: State of Men's Basketball

    I ain't giving up.

    I ain't never giving up.

I'll be at the games this weekend, cowbell in hand, yelling Go Rabbits at the top of my lungs.

It's easy to be a fan when the team is winning. Y'all can prove your true Rabbit chops by showing up to root the men on this weekend. I'll see you there.

filbert's right about the fan support, everyone needs to keep coming out to support the team.

I'm actually pretty optimistic about next year. Holdren will be back, Cadwell is great, I've heard really good things about Cam Hornby, Mohammed Berte is really a solid player. and Gilbert I think will have a great season as a sophomore. I think .500 is very possible maybe we can even do a little better than that.

        Re: State of Men's Basketball

I think after today's news its pretty safe to say that the men's program has descended into near chaos right now. I hate to be negative, but:

Gilbert, and Berte- There's about a 90% chance these guys are done. Do you really think that Nagy is going to be sitting around to see if next season they will be eligible, or in jail? Those are two scholarships, and we need them badly right now.

Beran- Whats wrong with him lately? Is something medical wrong with him? Or does he not want to play for SDSU anymore? I guess we'll find out this spring, but I wouldn't be schocked if he didn't come back for his senior year.

I hate to say it also, but is Nagy going to be coming back next year. I doubt he gets fired or forced out, but does he even want to come back here. I truly hope he sticks it out with SDSU because hes a great coach, and seems like a decent guy, but everyone's got a point where they have had enough. If an UND has a coaching spot open up this spring, does anybody feel that Nagy wouldn't even consider it, if they assured him that they weren't going to be D-I for several years? Again, I hate to be negative, but things can't be much worse. Right now we have fewer players then we did last year at this time. Next year we're going to be lucky to be doing as well as we are right now, and I wouldn't be shocked by a winless season. Our team will be just as young as this year, maybe a little younger, and we are losing alot of athleticism, right where we are the thinnest.

My above post was written prior to the events of this morning. No doubt the news today will impact in a big way. Lets wait and see what happens, It may take another year or two but Nagy will right this ship!!

            1. Let the judicial process work itself out before Berte and Gilbert are completely written off. If they are exonerated, Gilbert may not stick around depending on how he's been treated by the coaches and admin. during this course of events. As for Berte, he would have fewer options to leave since he only has one year of eligibility left.

            2. Nagy's future is worthing watching. If he departs, the program would have to start at virtually square one as some players (Holdren?) would likely transfer, particularly if he landed a gig at a D-2 school. He probably doesn't have to worry about job security yet.....that is likely still a couple horrendous seasons or another "incident" away.

            3. I hope that Holdren a) stays around, b) recovers to a D-1 level, and c) is granted a med redshirt for this year.

I (along with my cowbell) plan to be at Frost tomorrow night and will encourage other students to come!

P.S. The darkest hour is just before dawn.

Losing or asking Nagy to leave would put us behind square one unless we can find a replacement with DI experience (beyond grad or 2nd assistant). Nagy needs to undo the mess that is the current men's BB team at SDSU.

                  Re: State of Men's Basketball

Coach Nagy was very upset with Andy Moeller's decision to jump ship and play at Minn. St. Mankato his senior season. I don't see Coach Nagy leaving. He is a true fighter, and will keep fighting to see that SDSU basketball becomes a competitive program. I believe Coach Nagy and Coach Larson are loyal to our program here at SDSU, and they will do whatever they have to do to right this WAYWARD ship.

I don't believe that Nagy will go anywhere either. He's too much of a competitor to bail out now. I just feel bad for the guy. He seem's like he can't wait for the season to be over. I'm fairly confident that he'll get us back on the right track. Next year at this time things will be looking up...maybe not great, but certainly progess will be made.

                      Re: State of Men's Basketball

Nagy ought to be strongly encouraged to stick around. He seems like a guy who does not back down from challenges. He certainly does not seem like a coach who would give up and retreat to D-II. The men's basketball program needs him more than ever right now. Fix the program, and restore a winning tradition. Nothing could be more satisfying than that type of double-barrelled accomplishment.

Playing devil's advocate for a moment, could you really blame Nagy if he did leave? I don't think he will, but really, could we blame him?

Unless he wins the Powerball and doesn't get fired or forced out (which I don't see happening) he'll be back. He has to have a job and it's not easy finding a head coaching job when your team is 5-15. He will be back.

Actually I do think we could blame him for leaving now (not that I think he will).  Isn't he at least somewhat responsible for the situation he is in right now?

That being said, I believe in him and coach Larson and know they will battle through this.

Knowing Nagy since he came to alum gathering with then head coach Jim Thorson in 1988 I think, I dont see him leaving either. If there is one thing about Scott that sticks out is his ability to take responsiblity. I sure if he was at liberty to comment he would take responsiblity for all that has happened.

If there is a shakeup, and its IMO, I think some scrunity of the staff in how they have made contacts with recruits and what indepth knowledge did they have of specific recruits will certainly be asked. This not to say someone or anyone is going to be fired. I do think its time to asks some hard questions and how did we get in this mess. ???

Yesterday while driving into Brookings for the game, I was listening to Rick Knobe VPU, on radio KSOO. He had a caller who had a very skewed view point of Fred Oien, SDSU and our move to D1. It was like Fred should go and he was a monster. It was very funny, but sad to hear your alma mater torn apart in this fashion. The funny part was Rick could not understand why the Brookings County Sheriff or City Police were not involved in the investigation. It goes show how little some people know about SDSU and the Brookings community. They dont know that Brookings county has three police systems.

Thank God yesterday is over, and today is a new day. ;D

No way Nagy will resign. We will struggle to win another game including tonights game. The best and only thing we can do as fans is to get out and support the team the remainder of the season. It's times like this when the SDSU family finds out who it's true supporters are.
