I know who cadsev isand he knows basketball so i guess he is a know it all. ;D

I like the fact that he's able to inject some realism, into what's discussed. I don't consider that negativity. There's already plenty of homer opinion.

Cadsev seems to have more inside information on high school basketball recruits than anyone else on this board and I find it very interesting. Many Boards have multiple people with this kind of insight. Why do we tend to run people off on this board that seem to have good information. Most of the information I post on recruiting is info I find on various recruiting sites that I hope people find informative. I wished more people would help post info on people the Jacks are considering. Take a look at Bisoninsider and Bisonville. There site has multiple people posting on the types of topics that speculate and inform and they can be much more blunt than most of the posts here.

In agreement here. I am disappointed in the state of men's BB at SDSU right now and feel a little concerned that others are not. Coach Nagy can't seem to express his frustration enough and yet many people seem to think things will just get better on their own.

Granted, there have been some bad breaks, but there have also been some big mistakes and it will take some time to make up for those. Sorry if it offends people to say it, but things need to improve whether its sooner or later. If you don't want to hear that then don't listen. My expectations are high as are many others.

All that said, I won't ever "give up" nor will I wallow is pity. I'll simply keep asking for more/better things from this team and coaching staff. Things start with a convincing win at home tonight vs a bad Utah Valley St. program.

So, the question then becomes, who to recruit to man the PG position?

Not only becomes, but remains. Someone needs to ask Nagy who he expects to run the point, what he sees happening over the rest of this season, and what he is looking for next year. Imming doesn't/isn't suppose to do this as best as I can tell.

Its my guess that Frias was brough in to be our point guard for the next two seasons, and we know how that has turned out so far.

Not to say that anyone can see the future, but it makes me ill to know that if we didn't take the chance on Frias very late last spring, we could very well have Michael Tveidt in a jacks uniform next year as well. This according to Cadsev's account of why tveidt signed with the bison. Hindsight sure is 20/20 :-/

BTW, i still hold out hope that Jose will make me eat my words.

It appears Tveidt had every chance to become a Jack and he was holding out for in his eyes a better opportunity. I feel the coaching staff did the right thing by trying to fill a need at point guard with Frias after the unexpected flop of Landon Scott which is where this all started. Clearly Frias has not made the contributions the coaching staff and we all had hoped for. If he isn't expecting playing time in his senior year I wonder if he will even return which would open up another scholarship. Could we have gotten Tveidt,Cordova and Bassett if Frias had not signed? I think only the coaching staff and the players involved know the answer to that question. Cordova and Tveidt will be compared over the course of their careers. I'm appreciative that Cordova took the Jacks offer where Tveidt evidently felt he had better offers and I don't think from a pure basketball perspective even he felt NDSU is a better situation than SDSU.

I really hope Jose can turn the whole thing around however, not only from a bball standpoint, but even more so he can hopefully finish his degree the next two years.

Oh, yeah, forgot about the Scott affair. Geez, we've been snakebitten the past couple of years at guard, haven't we?

Just basing this comment on the body language of Jose and Coach Nagy during last nights game , I really did not see anything encouraging. Jose seems to have moved further away from the coaches and right next to the red shirt guys on the bench.

Now that Andre Gilbert had a good night and appears to have had  a break out game in the eyes of coach Nagy, maybe something positive will happen with Jose during practice this week. I am sure those listening during the post game show, heard Coach Nagy comment on the turn around in practice by Gilbert. Lets hope the same will happen with Jose. We are starving for team depth.

If not we may see a new point guard next year again and Jose ends up somewhere else which is not what any of us wants. :-/

                          Re: State of Men's Basketball

Fact of the matter is, we have to finish the remainder of this years DI schedule with a team not suited to play DI basketball.

My honest opinion, we have maybe 3 solid DI caliber players (not DI stars) on this team and 1 of them is hurt. We have at least 3 players who wouldn't see regular time on a DII team. The remainder are hard-working kids who would be good to great players at a lower level.

Despite these shortcomings we have won and still will win a few DI games, but not on a consistent basis and not over mid-major or better teams.

My support for the Jacks won't waiver and I look towards a much brighter future. In order for that to happen there needs to be a little change in direction from the current. I expect that to happen.

Good luck Jacks vs a darn good Utah St. team.

Some recent comments by Coach Nagy and his answers to a few of the audience's questions at a recent public gathering:
Holdren will return next season as a sophmore.
Hornby is probably the best shooter on the team in practice.
                            Cordova has potential.
The team probably will play one or two major opponents a year in the future, not five.
Yackley has a chance to play because he plays with no fear and can handle coaching.
Matt Jones would have been playing his final season this year.

The forum at which Nagy spoke was in Sioux Falls. It was a luncheon for SDSU fans and supporters just before a recent road trip (to Central Florida?). The luncheon came after the thrashing by NDSU so that was a big topic. (NDSU isn't that much better than SDSU, he said.) Other tidbits I recall:
He wants a competitive program in place by 08-09.
He thinks some of his good D-II teams would have had a winning record now (then anyway).
He sees reason for hope and does not want to resort to a quick fix. He offered no excuses.
His remarks seemed candid and were very interesting.
