Re: Summit League Tournament: Game One

The best way to win on Saturday might be to play the five guys who are playing the best right now for 35 minutes or more. Cordova, Moss, Sargent, Palarca, and Callahan. Let Cassiday, Callahan, Williams, Casey and Engen give them a 1-2 minute breather once each half.

You have been on this board chirping about how bad this team is and how Nagy needs to go. I'm assuming that is all based upon some basketball knowledge, but with a line-up like that, I am glad your not running the team. That team is too short and would get killed inside. Moss can't play the power forward. If you play a small line-up like that they have to beat the other team down the floor and get easy transition baskets. I have not seen SDSU get a transition basket in about 5 games. In fact I have only seen about 3 all year. Right now SDSU is too short and when the other team shoots the ball, all 5 SDSU players have to crash the boards to get rebounds. This pretty much eliminates any chance of someone releasing down court for an easy transition basket.

Typically a team is made up of 2 guards, 2 forwards and 1 center. We really don't have a true center, so Cordova (who is a power forward) plays center. Williams, Cassiday and Gr. Callahan play power forward, although they are small forwards. Then we play with a 3 guard set. Your idea of playing 4 guards and a power forward would never work against a team like Oral Roberts.

Just another example of why I ignore your chirping about this team.

First of all Kai doesn't come off the bench. He is probably our best rebounder and very good defender. He's also capable of having a big offensive game. Moss has played better since Sargent has been out but I would leave him on the bench as a roll player. Clint needs to be in the lineup as the 2 guard - we need his scoring. I would start Palarca he's a good drive and dish setup man and has the quickness to stay with Jarvis. He played well on him the other night. Garrett is a must start too with his all around game. I would play Engen more minutes as well he played well in few minutes against ORU the other night.

I still say play the five that are playing the best at the moment the most. Earlier in the year when Coach did that everyone thought it was the greatest idea. Why not now?

I say play the five that have the fire and desire to leave it all on the floor Saturday night. I don't care what position they play or how big they are!

                Loved the post!!!

I agree about Jarvis. He has a sheitty attitude. He should have been T'd up in Brookings. He was elbowing and shoving the Jacks players (one was so intentional and in front of a ref I couldn't believe it didn't get called). He never should have been around for the finish of the game. The Jacks should have won that game. ORU is a winable game to open the tourney.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

Lots of tickets yet. Go to TV's blog today and the link he has to the Fargo Forum. They got some information on the ticket sales and available tickets from the Arena. Saturday's reserved seats are virtually gone, but it looks like there's around 2000 GA tickets out there.

Think WNIT crowds, think Oakland at Frost's crowd. We want THAT, we need THAT! We want BLUE and yellow, not green and yellow there!

Does anybody think if I got to the arena around 6 that I'd be able to buy a ticket at the gate?

Just have one waiting at "Will Call". Then you don't have to risk it. Maybe with 2000 Gen. Adm. tickets available, you can get one (since the reserved seats sold so well).

I would go this route as well especially for games featuring the Jacks or Bison.

Under 24 hours to go. Man it's been a long week.

So ORU is one of two teams in the conference I haven't seen yet with IUPUI, though I did watch ORU on tv for the bracketbuster last year. I know that was a team with quite a few seniors and Jarvis came off the bench. So how do the Jacks pull off the upset and take out the Golden Eagles? From what I've heard, Jarvis is an easy to hate player and can either feast or famine off the crowd. What else do they have?

I do know from all of the games I have seen and listened to this year regardless of what ORU is throwing at them on defense, the offense needs to run through AC. He has been a good decision maker on when to pass and when to take it at the opposition. The offense runs so much better than rotating the ball around the outside until there's 10 seconds left on the shot clock and they panic and throw up garbage. He's my key to the game and then Garrett needs to get out of this shooting funk he's been in and make the outside shots. Not giving up offensive rebounds is also a big key.

I think tomorrow is going to be a phenomenal atmosphere and two Jacks wins would make it a perfect day. I hope to see 5500 at the Arena tomorrow and 4000 Jacks fans. It's one and done time, get out and support your team!

Jarvis will get his points, but...

I'm concerned about Marcus Lewis. He couldn't be stopped at the end of our last game againt ORU. He's bigger, faster, and has two more years of experience on A.C. A.C could either get in foul trouble gaurding him, or he could light us up. I expect him to get a lot of touches early, and the same with A.C. If A.C. gets in foul trouble, we have no other reliable post. If Lewis gets in foul trouble, ORU has descent reserves to fill the paint.

WE HAVE TO PLAY OUR BEST GAME...limited turnovers, and all out hustle.

I think saying "WE HAVE TO PLAY OUR BEST GAME" is going a little overboard. Do they need to play well? Sure they do.

The Jacks were able to force ORU into missed shots in Tulsa. But, we did not rebound the ball. Giving up 20 offensive rebounds and being out rebounded by 15, we shouldn't have even been in that game. Big rebounding nights will be needed out of Kai, AC and Josh of the bench.

The Jacks were in position to win. We stay even or win the battle on the boards, we win the game.
