  • Re: Oakland Game Thread

For those of us that missed it on the video portion of goJacks. They have the link up to watch the replay already in the game story. I think they know they screwed up. I just finished watching it and even knowing the results I was into it and got the same feelings as last night. Now I got one month to talk the wifey into a trip to South Dakota in March.

It was a night to remember.
I'm right with you Filbert, after the half started, I said to the wife, "I want to win this game bad...for the team...but I also want the fans who are leaving to read tomorrow in amazement and know that they missed one of the more memorable games (the MOST memorable in D-I).

And if you didn't see it...you wouldn't believe how Kai got his rebounds, I mean he was playing 7-foot tall with "jump" and literally grabbing the ball out of the Oakland player's hands! He was awesome. Everything else has been said, so I'll knock it off (it's Sunday and I'm just getting around to the board!) but the whole evening was so amazing that my blood pressure hasn't dropped one iota. GO JACKS!!

Going to post this on both the men's and women's thread in hopes the individuals involved see it or if someone that knows them can say thanks to them. My daughter and I got to the game and were really glad we went the reserved ticket seat route, but when we got to our seats, some coats were in them. We get the usher over just to make sure we are in the right place, she confirms it and moves the coats and we prepare for the games. We were in the AA section, so each seat over is less of a good view. As you probably can tell, after a few minutes, the other people come back and they have tickets for the same seats. Usher comes over, not sure what happened but both sets of tickets had same seats.

The other couple graciously agreed to sit in the seats down the row and would never switch with us at half or for the mens game. My daughter was very nervous that we were going to have to leave the game and these people were very nice about the whole thing. I found out that when they got to will call, there was nothing waiting for them so they had to have it looked up to verify they had ordered the tickets, the right charges on the credit card etc., etc. And when they get done with all this, someone takes their seats anyway.

The thing I regret is that I did not get their names. If watching those two games didn't make last night special for them, I want them to know that as soon as we got to the car my daughter said she, "I am so thankful that the nice people next to us didn't make us leave as this was the best night ever."

If you are out there, thanks again. Jackrabbit fans are the best.

OK Game thoughts after reading the 23 pages. Everything has basically been said except that those that missed out because of Jump TV and are now going to watch the replay; DO NOT fast forward through the first part of the game. Without seeing the ugly part, you won't understand the determination on the part of the players to make that comeback happen. Unbelievable.

As for Kai's three point "bit of a circus" shot, we were looking down on it and still cannot figure out how come the refs let him get that shot off. He had to have been HAMMERED seven or eight times before he even started to go back up with it. They were trying to get the whistle blown as he was coming down with it. We were screaming at the refs to call the foul, but I'm glad they waited on that one. It will be a play that will long be remembered in Jackrabbit basketball.

If I picked out the MVP I really think I would go with Callahan because of his defense on Kangas. Kangas moves so freakin well without the ball putting himself in a position to get good looks, but not tonight (at least not after the opening part of the first half). He got his points, but he, and the rest of Oakland's team, had to work so hard for them. It seemed as though they were getting physically worn out on the offensive end. That doesn't happen very often and I believe was a big factor in the Jacks offense being able to turn it up a notch also.

Refereeing. This is a major problem for the league. Again, and it is an almost nightly complaint, the refs were extremely inconsistent for both teams. The tournament is coming up soon and something needs to be done. All the teams will be playing for a chance at the NCAA's and based on the season so far, you can expect the refereeing to be a significant part of at least 3/4 of the tournament games. Improvements must be made. I have reffed (not at this level) in the past and it is difficult, but the problems that seem to occur repeatedly is that no consistent standard is applied. Many touch fouls were called last night, and then for a 4 or 5 minutes of the game no touch fouls called. Neither teams players had any idea what the rules of the game were.

Gosh that was a fun night and that is what I am going to remember.

The only thing i would disagree with, is the MVP. We had 5 guys who each did something really special in the course of that game that helped with that incredible comeback.

Well I finally pulled the trigger and ordered up 2 Summit League full session tickets. Wanted to get it done before the single session go on sale as the seats will only get further up. I will say I totally regret not doing this two months ago as I wanted to wait and see what was going to pan out with the men. Shame on me for not believing earlier because after last night the men looked like a legitimate contender in the league. Now with that said, go win some road games and don't make me regret this purchase so we all can watch one, two, dare I say three men's Summit League tournament games.

I forgot to add that it would have been a very difficult decision picking one and would have rather gone with a team award. Thanks for reminding me of that error.

Jimmyjack - I don't mean to give you more work than you've already most likely got, but is there a chance you're making a highlight video of this game....specifically the few minutes when it rained 3's on both ends of the floor in the second half....that would be absolutely fantastic to see again...

Well I know some on here stated that a lot of people left at halftime and since my parents went to the game, I was curious to see if they left early too. I would not blame them if they did, they attended 3 games in Watertown earlier in the day and then traveled to SDSU to catch the women's and men's double header.

They almost left, they had a pact that if SDSU got down by 20, they were going to leave. When Oakland was up by 17, they put their coats on and left their seats standing by the exit. State made a run and got it back to 10, they sat in seats that had been vacated by someone that left the game at halftime. They did stay and they were glad they had. They both expressed to me that that was one of the best games they had seen at SDSU in a long time. My dad, NDSU guy, always likes to take little shots at me about how the Bison men are doing and that he can't really watch the Jacks men since going to D-1. They have not gone to a men's game, unless it is a double header since moving to D-1. Now the women's games are different. They go to several women's only games a year. They claim that once the men's team starts playing well that they will start attending their games again.

Well they were so impressed with the team, this is their first time seeing them this year, that they are going to attend the next double header in a few weeks. I was actually suprised to hear them say that, but was happy about it none the less. I'm sure they are not the only ones that feel that way. Hopefully the word will get out and people will return to watch the men's team again like the good old days.

I imagine this was brought up already, but don't have the time or energy to dig through the 24 pages of this thread. I just want to say, as a guy who has questioned Kai's intensity throughout his career, his play in this game and especially OT was outstanding. The rebound and putback at the end of the game was one a player grabs only because they want it more than the rest of the players on the court. What a way to put an exclamation point on his 1000th point and a huge win for the program. 15 points and 17 rebounds is a stat sheet that reflects a player was who was trying and working hard. Mucho respect for Mr. Williams on this Monday morning.

I was putting kids to bed for the first 3/4 of the game and only jumped in during the last 10 minutes of the second half and OT so I saw all the good and missed most of the bad from the sounds of it. It was as much fun as I've had watching an SDSU mens basketball game in a while.

If you're looking for entertain value for a Saturday Night date, it doesn't get better than 1/31/09 in Frost Arena. I was watching (and screaming) in front of computer at home for the WBB, and listened to men's game (not a happy camper with JumpTV right now), but was absolutely astounded with the glorious turnaround and rescue of what could have easily have been a 20+ point blow-out.

Thanks Jacks men BB, THAT WAS A SUPER FUN EVENT TO SHARE!

I had the same problems on Saturday night with Jump TV.On Sunday afternoon I logged on and watched the replays of both games with no problems. So,are the freezing up problems caused by bad transmission during the live event, computer problems on my end,or problems with the internet provider ?Regardless of the cause,it does get extremely frustrating.

We congratulated him on his 1,000 point shot, and he was really happy , Well he was really happy for the win, firstly, we asked him how he did in the game, before we saw the video and Kai being Kai said I did ok

He said he was sore and tired and was going to go eat something we , told him how happy we were for all of his teamates and there was more of this to come for them all, in the coming games...

He asked how his brother did and we were able to tell him of his brothers triple double game and he was really happy for him too.

tears of joy for many of us I think....
