Anyone catch postgame?

Interviewees were AC & Garrett. Both very complimentary of Kai's outstanding defense, especially of Carver. Kept Carver's touches to a minimum and made him earn every point made. Admitted that still came out a bit flatter than optimal. EXTREMELY happy to get the win, even up with IPFW (one of the 4 starting last nite tied for 6-9 slots). Aware of where they are in standings, and eager to defend home court, as down to 3 home games left.

Nagy - Happy that they played smart at the ends of the games, and very pleased with Kai's defense. Ready for Oakland now, was worried that Jacks would be flat in game, and they were a bit flat. Happy to get the revenge win.

Terry had some comments from Nagy in his blog today, sounds like Nagy is staying upbeat.

I don't know if upbeat is quite the word to describe Nagy's attitude in the postgame, but there is definitely something different about him now, he seems to have more confidence in his players and their ability. He seemed a lot more determined and a lot less frustrated.

One of my favorite comments from the press conference, paraphrased: "We need to get to the point where teams are not surprised when we beat them, and that point is coming REAL soon." He said it with a lot of confidence, like a man stating a fact. Kind of gave me goosebumps. You kinda had to hear him say it, I suppose. I get the feeling from other coaches post game interviews that when they lose to us they are mad, not disappointed. Like they think we should be an automatic W on the schedule.

The trip to the Dakotas will be a nasty one the rest of this year and for years to come. I think most teams will be thrilled to go home 1-1 for the weekend.

Just a FYI: in his post-game remarks, Nagy noted that he doesn't like to call timeouts when closing the games, because he believes the team should know what to do because they practice it a lot. However, he said, he has started calling more timeouts in ending situations, because this team still needs to get a lift in those situations.

I agree with a veteran team players possibly could work things out on their own without a lift from the coach, but if there is any question about whether they can figure things out on their own a timeout should be used. Why take a chance when a quick timeout could be called to gaurantee the players know exactly what to do. It's his job as a coach to do everything he can to help the team win and if that means calling a timeout he needs to do it.

Calling timeouts in certain situations doesn't mean the players didn't learn things in practice.

One thing that I thought was really cool to see is down the stretch of last night's game, the bench players all had their arm's locked together. From a team perspective I really felt good about seeing that last night.

Just for a little perspective: I wasn't defending or challenging Nagy's position on end-of-time timeouts, just letting posters know what he said post-game if they didn't hear it. I do think that where he is at right now, is caught between believing his players know what to do, or whether he should call a timeout. With little time left, and his players flying down the floor for a game winning or tying possession, hesitation makes it too late, calling it and allowing the defense to get ready has it's own handicaps. I agree with your post about "veteran" teams, but would also say, although young, we're rapidly approaching the point where this is a "veteran" team.
