And surgeons are mature adults making 6 figure salaries... not teenagers making the equivalent of $10 an hour.

Yes the kids need tough skin to play on this level, but at some point the coaching staff needs to build some confidence in these individuals, and that is not done by yelling.
First, just how much yelling if Coach Nagy doing? Is it more than most coaches? When is he doing all this yelling? I haven't seen too much at games. Is it during practice? Is it outside of practice? Did someone force these young men to take a scholarship? Did they not know they were going to be coached by Coach Nagy?

Next, surgeons will often yell and stomp their feet thats why I'm not a surgeon. Yelling in practice or at a game is certainly more acceptable than yelling in the office or the OR. Its not a literal translation.

The point is, when you screw up and get called on it don't hang your head in self-pity. If any player doesn't understand why Coach Nagy is unhappy with them they just need to ask him. Scott will explain himself. Unless you have it with confidence that the majority of the players are unhappy and want a different leader than I'm not buying the "Coach Nagy is a big bully and we are all scared to play for him" line. I think its B as in B and S as in S.

Well if Nagy should stop yelling at his players than AJ should too, right? AJ yells at the women all the time, so don't act like Nagy is the only one doing the yelling, because he's not.
Christ people get over it, you don't think coaches in the NBA yell? Players get benched if they aren't performing, that's all there is to it, and right now I would say most of these guys aren't performing.

Yes I have noticed AJ and fortunately he is winning, so its not something we notice. This whole conversation keeps reminding me of the Col Oliver North hearings, when his attorney kept confering with Col. One of the Congressmen complained that the attorney was talking to much to Col North. The attorney's question to the Congressman was: "Do you expect me to be a potted plant?" There then was an uproar of laughter in the hearing room. Get the picture? BTW I was not a big fan of Col North, but thought he had a very sharp attorney who was full of advice.

Funny you said that, the players don't feel comfortable going to him. They say it just gets him worked up into a tantrum and goes off into tangents.

I use to yell a lot....... All coaches yell its something they do.... Its what they are yelling.... sit really close to a coach during a game and you will learn a lot about a coach....

I remember watching Ron Hunter(IUPUI's coach) just tear into one of his players last year at the BSA. He was intense and after he got done yelling he just glared at the kid for 30 seconds. At the end of game that same kid had a key play and Hunter was all over praising the kid. Bob Huggins was the same way, he'd tear into his guys early and than he'd be all over them when they had success later. I thought they were both a little crazy early on but as the game progressed there was definitely a method to their madness.

That said, if you don't have success I could see where yelling could cause trouble. If you are yelling at your players you have to be able to build them back up or things could spiral out of control.

Football plays in lower two-thirds of D-I, not the entire ocean; and in our case, women's basketball was in far better shape to go D-I, given coming off a national championship. I'm not saying I like it...but I understand it.
                  - I think it's more like the lower half of D-1 for football.

There are 246 D-1 football programs and around 120 FBS schools, so the split is more like 50-50.

                  - I don't think SDSU was necessarily better off for the transition due to the NCAA championship. I think AJ's coaching & recruiting style were better suited to making the transition.

I know I'm just seeing things from a far but you seem more inconsistent than just falling apart with no hope in sight. I've watched a few of your games this year and they weren't all bad.

The Summit is weak this year, there are a few good teams on the top but after that there isn't a whole lot. Nagy should be able to get you to Sioux Falls.

What's curious about rumors of player discontent:

                      - The situation would've been the same last year. All of these players were there last year. None of them have left. Some have been there for the past two years, and haven't left.

                      - Kai was quite honest about a conversation he had with Nagy after the Cal State-Bakersfield win--and volunteered the information he provided.

                      - Anthony Cordova, during the Cancun live chat, spoke very highly of Nagy--and, in fact, volunteered his praise, instead of repeating a company line in response to a direct question.

I am quite certain that some of the players are frustrated with Nagy from time to time. I am equally certain that Nagy is frustrated with some of his players from time to time. That's what losing does to people.

Doesn't mean the team is going to implode, and it doesn't mean Nagy is the wrong guy for the job.

In interviews we did last fall, Cordova and Mackenzie Casey both said Coach Nagy is like a father to them. All the players spoke very highly of Coach Nagy.

The coach wasn't there, and as a 44-year-old former political reporter, I've become a very good judge of whether or not people are being sincere. In my judgment, they were speaking from the heart. Perhaps they wouldn't have dished dirt on the coach in that setting, but they had the opportunity to offer platitudes or say nothing. They didn't do that.

In my more than 13 years of college-level teaching, I have found that the most important tools a teacher has are passion for the subject matter and determination to help students learn. Works for me. And Coach Nagy certainly brings both of those things to his relationships with the players.
                        Holy nutmeg!

Also, which way did the Callahan transfer go?

If Garrett Callahan didn't like Nagy, do you think Griffan would be here?

Here you go again...who are THEY? What has changed, so many players in the past have openly said he is like a big brother or second dad with a open door policy?

By the way, I literally got my helmet ripped off my head in front of thousands of people because of a personal foul on the field...the truth is it pissed me off royaly but you know what...I learned from it and never made the mistake again. One thing I have learned, when you are yelled at or reprimanded, usually it is because they know you have more potential than you are giving.

Life is not going to be handed to you on a pillow, if you think it is, good luck in your future.

Here is what a coach told me once, If I a coach is yelling at you, they have the faith in you that you can do better. When they stop yelling at you is the time you should start to worry.

I may be wrong, but I suspect those who are concerned about Coach Nagy's yelling are probably short on real world work experience. To support UWMadison point, I might add that in real life, you can have a boss who is unhappy with your work performance. Its a very common occurance. You should be happy that he is telling you that he is unhappy or even yelling at you. Some bosses may not take that much trouble to yell or to privately communicate with you about your job performance. They might instead of talking to you or yelling at you, hand you a pink slip. Then it's you, the subordinate who will possibly be doing the yelling about being fired from your means of earning a living.

So its not a cuddling world out there in real life so why should our BB players expect a free ride at SDSU. My guess is that the current roster is not expecting a free ride. They are probably worried that Coach Nagy is going to stop yelling.
