Putting a scare into the Roadrunners already . . .

The CSUB men’s basketball team set a world record for the shortest trip to South Dakota when their Northwest Airlines flight 511 from Minneapolis landed for less than a second before gusty winds forced an emergency takeoff in a touch-and-go landing at the Sioux Falls airport Sunday night.

Unable to land, the plane returned to Minneapolis. The team made it safely to Sioux Fall on another Northwest flight early Monday morning.

For the Roadrunners, however, it was difficult to get over the experience of being in an actual air emergency.

Flying through inclement weather, poor visibility and high, gusty winds made the long approach to landing difficult. As the plane’s back wheels touched down, passengers could feel the wind move the plane sideways.

“I looked out the window, and all of the sudden, there was the runway,” said CSUB Assistant Coach Geoff Probst, who was sitting on the left side of the airplane. “As soon as the back wheels touched down, we bounced and I could see the plane headed for the snow on the side of the runway. Then the pilot gunned it and we were taking off.”
    "I think we'll be OK"

I am just hoping for a better result at home that we saw on the road over the weekend in Denver. I am officially sending out positive vibes to the team as of now.

On a seperate note, I wonder if the coaches will still make it down for the SES luncheon tomorrow with the ultra-cold weather?

Holy crap. Glad they made it here safely.

I for one, am not a big fan of flying. I've done it a couple times, once in a big commercial airliner...and once in a little Cessna. It was awesome at the time, and would probably be awesome again when I go, because I'm sure I will fly again sometime in the future, but crap like this makes me never want to go again.

Looking forward to the game tuesday night.

Also, how about those pilots who had the presence of mind to get the heckfire back off the ground.

              Kudos to them.

I was flying with my cousin in a single engine plane when all of sudden we lost a lot of power and he looks at me and says, "What the f&*$ was that." I kinda thought he was joking until oil started hitting the windshield and smoke started coming out the back of the plane and into the cockpit.

Long story short he turned the plane around and flew back to the airport we took off from and got it back on the ground. Turns out we had lost one of the four cylinders. By the time we got it on the ground we had lost about 1/2 the oil in the engine. Never been so glad to have my feet back on solid ground in my life.

I have never been a fan of commerical air travel since 9/11/2001. Too much hassle but we digress here. Is Bakersfield going to win? Gosh I hope not, we need this win very bad.

My thought in seeing that was "huh. no better mid-major game going on tonight?"

Looks like I may have been correct.

Also, anybody else think "Badlands Conference" he uses in his preview might actually a better name than "Summit League?"

Hoping for the best tonight . . .

Would have to agree on the Badlands Conference being better.

Just got back from the Sioux empire staters luncheon Nagy got a question about Griffian and was so excited to be able to get him in to play. Only had great things to say about him. makes it sound like he will be big addition. Even though he hasnt played a college game yet, Nagy said he was gonna get some minutes and said he was the best shooter on the team.
