If I were Kai I would be upset. Lead the team in scoring and rebounding for two years, put up with the losing, for what? To be a role player off the bench?

Kai had 5 points. Next to the DII teams that was the least athletic and talented team we have played.

Do you even follow the team? I don't even go to the school and I know he is getting good minutes.... He was the main reason Cordova had a good game tonight, you can tell who the good players are because they do the little things when the ball isn't following for them..... Kai just needs to get his confidence back.... you can't coach confidence..... if you are going to make critizism at least know what you are talking about....

I am not going to get back into the debates we have had before, but will just say that 6-8 win season WILL be the future of the team unless NAGY goes.

The guys played the best they could. I am proud of them. They deserve a better coach.

          Good night.

            Nagy:

We had set calls--it wasn't our offense. Our defense just hasn't been very good. That's a hard thing for us because we spend a lot of time on it. They were just better on offense than we were on defense. We have to make free throws and layups--we missed a lot of them. We missed at least 10 free throws. It has to get to the point where the guys are tired of feeling this way----we need to get to the point where they guys don't accept this kind of performance.

They had a better plan than we did. We wrote on the board-absolutely no back door layups, and what did they score the first basket of the game on? We're still not there--we're not as mean, not as tough as we should be. We played the youngest team in D-I today and they played tougher than we are.

We need to look at scheduling to try to stay off the road for 4 or 5 days.

Our kids didn't quit but it's continually the story that we're down but don't quit. Trying to find any positive you can out of a game that should have been one . . . our kids know it, the coaches will be positive with them but we have to get tougher and meaner.

It would be nice to start winning on the road--I'm not convinced that our players think deep-down that we can do it. It's hard for the kids to get over that hurdle. I'm saying the same things to you every time, scrambling for answers. It's got to come from our players to decide.

I hope we get back tomorrow, then the kids will be locked in on finals. That alone will make it a tough game for us. We've really got to do a good job of washing out the negatives.

Maybe when he quits playing like a role player he will quit being treated like one.

YOUR AN IDIOT..... YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BASKETBALL....... Nagy has signed who I think, and others will be the best guy to come into State in Chad White.... you make no sense.... you say loosing is because of the coaches but the players play the best they can.... a new coach isn't going to recruit any better and its people like you that are the reason this team struggles.... they here the whispers that the team isn't that good, they are D-II talent, the coach needs to go and so on..... The teams problems are mental.... 100%.... they are a very athletic team, there is D-I talent.... you say Kai is a roll player.... no Kai is a good player that knows his shot isn't right so he does the little things right.... your problem is you look at the box score and make your decision from there.... numbers don't lie but they don't tell the whole truth either.... the reason Cordova did good? was because Kai was giving him good feeds and Kai's guy couldn't double on Cordova so help had to come from the far side.... You try to recruit during transition.... this is a game we should of won but they'll never win a game if people like you keep saying they won't win, or that they should can the coach.... it just doesn't work that way.....

I'm done ranting, but come on guys.... what I here every time there is a loss is either this team isn't talented or that the coach is a joke.... the answer is the team needs to gain confidence.... and you can't coach it, you can't teach it.... The team needs to just relax.... I hope finals do that for them.... I think that the team will do very well in conference this year.... but maybe thats just my optimistic mind....

I would bet you could go through a couple dozen post game interviews over the past five years and this would be a recurring theme in Nagy's comments.

He has a lot to do to figure out how to convince these players he has that they are better than they are playing right now. Sometimes it takes one player to step it up and carry the team forward, just who is that player though. I hate doing this, but I seem to remember, I think it was Austin Hansen's senior year, lots of injuries down the stretch yet he was able to put the team on his back and carry them to a regional final game (I believe) at Kearney (if not final it was the semi's at least). That team had no business winning some of the games they did with the talent on the floor, but one player had them all believing they could. Now whether that came from the top through that player I don't know, but someone on this team needs to be THE LEADER. Look at any good team winning championships and you can identify who the leader on and off the floor is. Can anyone point that person out on this team?

Nagy said he could just send up a broken record.... but he did say he feels that this team will figure it out.... I haven't heard that in past years.... This team is close... and I really feel it this year.... we are loosing games by single digets with good players having bad games..... Has Sargent, Kai, Callahan and Cordova had a good game all together? They just need to click and I feel it coming....

After talking to the guy that covers the SDSU men for the Register, he says Nagy says pretty much the same thing every time, it has to be frustrating for Nagy and there isn't much he can do except have confidence in the boys

expect 50 students at the mens game next week. Not to be negative but once the casual student fan hears that they lost to a 1-6 team coupled with finals week...it could be ugly. Not that the students that go to games are much of a factor tho. I feel so bad for the guys the pieces just don't fit and I don't know if they will this year. If the guys appeared that slugish on the court tonight maybe they should have rested up...

While I appreciate your ability to identify the positives, losing close games by single digits means losing. A game like tonight, there is no excuse to lose and I will not accept any apologist defense for this one. DU has something like 9 freshmen and sophomores. I recall reading on this board things like "we are just young it will come" and "just get them some experience." Well, DU proved that you can win with young kids, by beating us. We were the ones with the experience.

It has to be about desire and after watching our performance tonight, it looked like there was no fire in anyone's belly. No diving for loose balls, no pounding the floor on defense, no emotional activity when someone had a big play. We lack so much confidence I couldn't believe it. The body language out there screams lack of confidence. DU wanted it, executed extremely well, did not turn the ball over, and made free throws. Those things equal wins and we don't do them. It was painful to watch tonight.
"All I know is what I read on the message boards."
"Oh, well, there's your problem, then."
