Must have been during the part of the game I was fast fowarding to as to not make myself sick of watching the ugly play. Box score shows 7 minutes, 3 rebounds.

My bad for not noticing and calling him out (although technically filbert named him, so I'm off the hook).

I should have been counting how many times especially in the first half a Jack threw it right into the hands of a Gopher. Unforced turnovers.
Seemed like more than 20...counted five in a row in the first half and 3 in a row when they cut the lead to 5 points. Too many unforced turnovers....not enough size and yet still battled to make it respectable.

I believe you are correct there . . . Nagy's teams have always had a tendency to play a bit tight especially in big games--I think it's a reflection of his personality.

It's OK if you're winning 25 games a year in D-II. Not so much if you're winning 8 games a year in D-I. If he wants the team to loosen up, he's got to start the ball rolling.

Why not? What's the use of wasting a scholarship on someone who can't do what he's receiving the scholarship to do? He was recruited to PLAY basketball. This is his fourth season, he's the biggest post player on the active roster, and yet he gets 7 minutes against a team with two pretty good 6-10+ players in the lineup. Seems like something's a little wrong there.

How do you get in trouble for calling out player A but not player B? As a student who started out as a journalism major at SDSU and who got a degree in library science almost 40 years ago, I'm a bit troubled first amendment-wise.

Grizzled Jack: it was the nature of what people are referring to as "calling out". There's a fuzzy line out there that sometimes we see. And sometimes moderators are privy to other information.

The First Amendment starts with the words "Congress shall make no law...." There's no Congress on this message board. We have something better called filbert, a benevolent (?) dictator.

The librarian in me says that media is media and we're on a very slippery slope.

Catchem.... I agree with your point but if you start pulling scholarships because players don't do that well you will never recruit anybody.... I don't like "calling out" anybody but sometimes you have to say the truth.... Kai isn't playing great right now, and he'll be the first to say so, same with Cordova both have been fairly quiet since Cancun.... As far as Callahan and Sargent.... I agree with Nagy 100% they need to know they can do it every night... Garrett seems to realize that this year that he is good enough to compete and Sargent needs to do that every game.... I still think the tricky part is the point guard..... when Casey isn't firing shots like he is Wayne Ellington he is an alright point guard.... Palarca is clearly the more talented one but he just needs to reign it in.... I think when we get into conference we might see more Callahan or Moss running the point when not being pressed.... I'd like to see Cassaday, Cordova and Williams on the court at the same time, open things up for all of them... with Callahan/Sargent/Moss/Palarca/Gr. Callahan in the back court.

We certainly want to avoid defamation but message boards seem to be full of unsupported opinions -- not very actionable. As far as putting limits on the "speech" going on, that's up to the person who set up the board. If a person sets up a message board and limits what can be said, that's their choice and the Constitution has nothing to say about it. I don't think it has anything to do with the First Amendment concept of "free speech".

(Now, I recognize that most of us walk around thinking we have the right of "free speech" which means to many of us that we can spout off just about whatever we want but technically, that's not real accurate. We have many misconceptions about the rights in the Constitution...and we have had courts chewing over those concepts and misconceptions for more than 200 years.)

jack power is absolutely right and I'm guilty for contributing... back to the game.

The final score is not an embarassment...will look okay on ESPN.

I wonder how good Minnesota will be once Big 10 play starts. Their young posts will probably be educated a few times but both Iverson and Sampson appear to have very bright futures (I think Iverson has the potential to be a really outstanding player).

Here's the story on Minnesota's official site: http://www.gophersports.com/ViewArti...ATCLID=3631787

Coach Smith: “We knew South Dakota State was a good team and wasn’t going to go away easily,” Smith said.

Tubby Smith is a great coach and always compliments his opponent. At the same time, we did not just go away easily. I hope our players can take that from this game and expand on it.
