Back to 500 on the season, first conference game ends in a win...we got it done tonight. Have to improve some to get it done Saturday but I think a larger crowd can be expected and they'll be into it...so the atmosphere will be right for another win. Oral Roberts won't want to return to Tulsa with two road losses so we'll see a good visiting basketball team and a real battle.
Watch the game on video and you can see that! Also this is the first game that I did not make it to.
Are you satisfied with the effort, production or emotion, of our LEADER according to this site?
Str8 up!
I'm satisified with a conference win anyway this team can get it. It's a long season and Kai isn't going to have a double-double every night or even every other night, even though we all can't figure out for the life of us why he can't.
Okay just got back from the game... Dale Moss and AC played GREAT! In response to Tattoos post.... Garret Callahan is our leader not Kai. Garret played GREAT tonight, Kai did not...Right now Kai is playing a lot of minutes but I don't think they are quality minutes. We need to cut Kai's minutes so that he is more effective in the minutes he is playing. I was happy with how Palarca played. He made some big shots. Clint struggled tonight but was still solid. It was good to see the crowd in it tonight! Good Job to the parts of the student section that cheered.
Jackrabbits: Long ears, strong hind legs, gritty, relentless, fearless.
Just because Kai didn't have a double/double, doesn't mean he didn't play well. Sometimes you have to tip your hat to the opponent. They did an excellent job in taking kai and Clint out of the offense for the most. Others stepped up though and that is a good sign. Casey got us started, Callahan was himself and Palarca hit a huge shot that gave us the spark we needed to put it away. This team is getting better all the time. Dale has gotten the message also.

I agree Kai is playing a lot of minutes. The points might not show right now but State can't afford to not have him on the court. Maybe at sememster break when Grif can play and get Cassaday some more time, State can afford to give Kai more rest (along with Garrett and Clint). These guys are playing a lot of minutes and they are going to be needing some more rest on the bench before the year is up.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

One thing I have noticed about Kai and the team in general is he doesn't have to force it when he isn't on.... In the past it was either Kai, Garrett or a but whoopin.... This year the others are starting to step up and take some pressure off of Kai and Garrett..

You actually got me to laugh a little on that one. A true statement, none the less.
Kai was a non-factor in tonight's game. It was mainly the other guys that beat Centenary.
That's an extremely GOOD thing. That tells teams that taking Kai out of the equation will not necessarily guarantee them a win.
If the rest of the guys play with that kind of effort they had tonight, and Kai has a good night, we're going to be EXTREMELY tough for most teams in the Summit League to handle.
We're close, folks. Keep the faith. And come out in big numbers on Saturday night--the women and this year's men's team deserve some support.
The men's team has some talent. They need to keep working and growing and playing together.
Good win for the Jacks tonight. Just got home and reflecting on the game. This is a game that last year we might not have won. We needed to learn how to win games. There were several last year that we played not to lose instead of putting them away. When we get the attitude of knowing how to win, we will be getting a lot more w's. Looks like this years team knows how to play together better...
I am so proud of these guys!!! What a little belief from all of us could do!! We were not able to make these home games, but we did buy the feed and it's like back at the 40's and 50's at our house. On game night we all watch the game, eating supper, around the computer! Conlan asked me if this is what it was like in the OLDEN DAYS! I said, that's what I heard!!!!!!!! Keep it up guys. It's nice to see, that if there is someone struggling, there are others stepping up. GREAT TEAM WORK!
I can't credit the defense for taking Kai out of the game. The team SDSU played last night was not strong and will finish in the bottom of the league. SDSU had some nice runs the first half and wasn't patient enough to chip away to build a larger lead and seemed each time it was 11 or 13 many long forced shots were taken allowing Centenary back into the game. Kai needs to establish himself on the floor and be more assertive. He seriously looks disinterested and for a kid with his ability lays back and is not aggressive. He had one dribble drive to the paint the second half, split the defense and made a nice 10 foot pull up jumper, the only one of it's kind all night long. Looked to me that he could get that shot at will. As for boards he had five total late in the second half. Centenary played a lot of zone at times and didn't key on Kai. Yes, it's great the team doesn't need to rely on him but against better teams, someone needs to lead this team.
Too many unforced errors last night by the guards at times could have spelled doom. Casey was solid the first half, got into foul trouble and sat most of the second half. Parcala needs to tighten up. He was too loose with the ball, too many long one handed passes during crunch time and played little defense. Centenary guards were stronger, quicker and bigger.
AC was outstanding. He played with emotion and did the dirty stuff in the paint...nice double/double from him...now make all the freethrows and he's on the court at the end....Dale Moss..impressed, solid effort. Plays hard...gave a much needed lift when he entered the game. Callahan missed some big shots but provided much needed scoring. He was solid and played hard as well.
Impressed the most with the teams ability to rebound. Everyone seemed to work hard blocking out and hitting the glass...especially at the end. Limited Centenary to one shot and was able to convert on free throws to blow open a close game. Again, three athletes from Centenary fouled out and the final score was in doubt with a minute left in the game.
Saturday night it gets much tougher.....last night was a good win for the SDSU men...string some together and the team will build confidence, but there are some flaws.
Here is the bottom line....Time to step up Kai...he needs to play to his ability as he has tremendous talent.....great players might have obstacles such as tough defense but they still find a way to compete. Kai last night did not compete...it is painful to watch and no other way to put it he was an absolute NON FACTOR! SDSU needs and will continue to need a front line player/leader and right now it's missing one. Kai might be the answer but it won't get done doing what he did last night.
This was a really good win, because it was a win. I will not fault Kai for not throwing up shots just for the sake of shooting. The development of this team has come in stages.
A couple of years back it was Kia and Garrett playing a lot of minutes as freshman and finding their way in a hopeless situation. They did well, but there were many tough moments.
Last year, it was Sargeant, Palarca, Moss, Cordova getting playing time and trying to contribute. It was an up and down effort and those guys had many issues.
But through these struggles the players have survived and it appears that they have grown. Garrett is playing tough, aggressive basketball and is the best offensive option on the team. Kai is our most talented guy, and he is super offensively at times, but is willing to let the team offense flow through him to other players. He also finds other ways to contribute on the floot every night.
But the point is that the young ones who struggled last year are now contributing. I'm excited to see what Griffan will bring to the table in a few weeks when he is eligible.
I'm not saying we're to the point where we're going to stomp Oral Roberts on Saturday night, but I think the team has some fight and games like tonight will add to their memory banks and allow them to be better at closing out another game later on in the season. Maybe it will be Saturday night, maybe it will be later than that, but this was a good win. Even if it doesn't lead to 17 more, it will lead to some more.
