I dont have the time to go back and dig out their comments re: leaving SDSU. I can live with the rude PM's and name calling, what I can't live with is a beloved basketball team that is sinking faster than our economy. I shall leave it at.

          SDSU's Holdren transferring to Illinois

          May 1, 2006

Steve Holdren, a star basketball player who was injured this season, is leaving South Dakota State University's men's team.

The 6-foot-5 guard-forward from Champaign, Ill., said Monday that he plans to transfer to his hometown University of Illinois to play for the Fighting Illini.

"The opportunity to come and play (at SDSU) has been great for me, especially to play for Coach (Scott) Nagy. He's undoubtably the best coach I've ever had," said Holdren, who scored 28 points for the Jacks against the Illini on Nov. 18. "He's a great person and a great guy. I wish that no matter where I went that he could be my coach.

"But my heart was (at Illinois) because I grew up always wanting to play there. Just the idea of going home and playing there, it was just an opportunity that I couldn't pass up." *. *. *. *(read more)

That there is Steve's quote to Chris Solari from the Argus Leader...

I think you need to research a little further rabbit boy. Anthony Cordova said at least three times how bad the players want to win for coach and how much they like him. Also, earlier on a thread one of the players mother mentioned how much her family likes coach Nagy and hopes he's around for her son's senior year.

A guy can yell and scream if his players respect him.

Why is no one entitled to his opinion. If one doesn't care for a coach or coaching style, then so be it. All opinions should be respected whether or not anyone agrees. It seems that when anyone says anything about a coach on these boards (no matter what sport) they are jumped on. IMHO I think it is healthy to have opposing points of view.

It's not about opinion, he said that on the yelling and screaming front the word is out. He then mentioned Mat & Steve, I am only asking for the obvious on this one.

Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

I seem to believe Illinois is a Div I school. Steve left to walk on at Illinois, his home state and a school he always wanted to play for. The way Matt played most of his soph. year at SDSU, I'm glad he transferred. He didn't want to be here and he showed it while he played.

Sure, but if you make a claim, you should be ready to back it up with some evidence.

                        Back from the game:

My take: free throws and a lack of commitment to rebounding--especially offensive rebounding, cost us this game.

There were several times when a Jackrabbit put up a shot, and there was nothing but white jerseys underneath the basket. You can't rebound if you don't try, and the Jacks didn't seem to want to try to go after offensive rebounds for too-long stretches of the game tonight. If you don't have that one big guy parked underneath the basket, then somebody else needs to decide to contest offensive rebounds on almost every possession, I think. Jacks didn't do it, and I think that's one of the reasons they lost tonight.

The Jacks (and some of you, listen to me here) had comparable talent to UCF tonight. Yes, UCF was a bit taller at some positions, but there are Jacks that have the hops to play against taller opponents (Moss, Williams, Cassaday come to mind). Our guards were not overmatched by UCF's guards. The two teams looked very, very even to me on overall athletic ability.

Personally, I expect the Jacks to come out and beat Central Arkansas tomorrow.

They are tall, but I would be surprised if any of them could bench there own body weight. We need some bruisers.

It did sound like the Jacks went through stretches where they didn't hit the offensive boards, but they actually had more offensive rebounds than defensive (21-18).UCF ended up 15-28. 21 offensive bds. sure seems like a lot.

My point being that a lot of UCF's defensive boards (and I especially noticed this in the second half) were uncontested by SDSU players--at least that's how it seemed to me, watching the game from the stands.

If we contested some of those, and maybe got one of them, it's a different game.

But still, I'm a lot happier about a close, hard-fought 2-point loss than I am about a futile 30-point pounding like we were receiving a few years ago. I'm actually looking forward to seeing our guys play again--and that's progress, considering where the program has been.

No one is entitled to his opinion? All opinions should be respected? Geez, you're complaining because one person states an opinion and gets some opposing opinions in return. Let me see if I understand your position: You say a person should be allowed to state an opinion and anyone who disagrees with that opinion cannot respond. Interesting.

This is a message board and on occasion peoples' opinions get shredded.

All opinions should be respected? That's pure B.S. I've heard that said on many fronts, not just sports, and the fact is, there are many opinions that are not to be respected one darned bit. Many opinions are worthless measured from an objective standard. (And don't start trying to make a lofty argument about freedom of speech, the Constitution etc....I'm in a ripping mood tonight. )

                                Win the next one, Rabbits!
