  • Dale Moss

What's the deal with him? He had a pretty good game against Mayville. Next game against VCU he only plays a few minutes. Coach Nagy said he wanted to send him a message because he wasn't playing tough D. So he sits 37 minutes against VCU and then plays just 1 minute against Drake.

I hope Coach decides to give him another chance instead of just burying him at the end of the bench. He's the best athlete we have on the roster.

Best athlete or not if he isnt giving it his all and doing what the coaches expect from him then i would imagine that he would get bumped down for other guys and walk ons who are doing every thing the coaches ask even if they are not as good of an athlete. Im not saying this is or isnt the case, just a possible reason. I was really looking forward to him and Kai being very explosive and spreading the O around gettin good shots for the shooters Callahan and Sargent and lanes for the slasher Moss and Williams. I think so many people are expecting so much out of are players after some of the rough years we have had but we must realize how young of a team this is and still expericing some injuries that are holding us back.

Hopefully it is not something that will keep moss on the bench for long. He has to much talent to not be playing if you ask me but i defer to the coaches to put in the best players to give us a chance to win and deserve to be playing.

I have been wondering the same thing and so has Imming who rarely asks this kind of question of Nagy and did after the VCU game. I thought Moss strength was defense?

Maybe there is something going on that we dont know about or what. Hope he gets good productive minutes on the floor to help this team out.

In my opinion now is not the time to be alienating one of our best players. I understand the cocept of team "D" but I want to continue to see Moss in a Jacks uniform for 2+ more years. He is to talented to be on the bench.

There is a huge difference between the best athlete and the best player though. If an athlete isn't producing, we can't afford to have him out there. I think we will see Dale again, but it is hard for me to agree with WestSideRabbit about him being one of our best players.

Couldn't disagree with you more Westside. No matter how good a player is if he is not willing to be a member of the team and do what it takes then he shouldn't be out there.

Here we go again...lets not get in to this speculation game again...you guys (gals) can start axing me right now but this is getting very old. Year in and year out this game starts on the blog and it drags out to the point that someone gets offended. Let just not go there this year...let the team settle the problems (or lack of problems). It amazes me how much more the members of this site sometimes seem to think they know.

Yeah I now the lines about we are just good fans giving our opinion, its are right, its expected, yada, yada, yada...well to an extent it is but it is just damn boring and when one "assumes" well, you know what it does to all of us.

Written proof of this is the long drawn out conversation over the "Dakota Marker" game and especially the officiating. Does anybody figure that if you dont respond to most of these "neo-trolls", the BS will quit?

Off of Rant...GO BIG, GO BLUE, ...?

I thought the defense was Moss and Michael's strength, too. I know that Michael isn't back into the swing of things but it would be nice if Moss could play the PG position. Neither Moss, Casey or Michael shoot the ball well but Moss has had a couple good games this year. They were against inferior competition but if he could shoot and handle his rebounding would be a bonus.
I know Casey would have gave us another 4 wins last year(according to Nagy) but I'm waiting to see it this season. I'll give him about 10 games to get into the swing of things but he isn't quite what I thought I heard he would be(yet). He is 8-36 shooting with 13 TO's and 12 assists.
Michael is 2-8 shooting with 8 assists and 7 TO's. I think when Michael gets into the swing of things, his assist to turnover ratio will get better. I'm not so sure about his shooting.
Moss is 7-18 from the floor. He hasn't played against the last 2 teams and that probably would have lowered his shooting %.
I think it would be a bonus if the PG could shoot but just getting the ball up the court without turning it over is the main thing. Kai will start hitting his shot and then we'll actually have some shooters on the floor. So far this year, Clint and Garrett have been hitting their shots. Cordova has been doing some solid work down low. I know it's only a few games into this season but I'm more impressed with our shooting than I have been in years. Those 4 guys just have to try to stay fresh and not injured and this team will be better than any team in years.
Sorry about the rant but I was getting to the PG's not being able to shoot. It all spiraled from there.
I still think that Cassaday and Griffen could help this team this year, too. Weather Griffen could be a PG or not, I don't know. The team isn't very deep but maybe Michael, Cassaday and Griffen will all get into the swing of things and this team could play 9 or 10 players. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

If you don't enjoy discussion on a discussion board about Jacks Athletics then don't spend your time here getting frustrated. There is much less speculation on here than most DI Boards. My only further comment on this is if Peyton Tivis is getting more minutes than Moss than something must really be going on beyond the scenes as Moss is as athletic a player we have on the team and have to believe he could help!

After watching Dale last year,i was of the opinion that he would have to improve his defense to garner more minutes this year. I haven't saw him play enough to notice if has indeed improved. Offensively, his lack of shooting ability never bothered me because he had a knack of being around the basket and getting close range points. Also, because he jumps so well he got some garbage points off offensive rebounds.

With that said, i agree that he HAS to be a better option than some of the players that are coming off the bench in front of him.

There are a lot of good points here and I'm not one of those who frets about whether a discussion board discussion has gone on too long. The members of this board are pretty good at reaching consensus on those kinds of things.

I'll just say that I trust Coach Nagy to coach his team. That doesn't mean I always agree, but (as I've said before) he has forgotten more about basketball this morning than I will ever know.
                            Holy nutmeg!

Garrett, Kai, and Clint are going to need other players on this team to step up and score. I have thought Dale would be one of those players this year that would contribute offensively. He certainly is an athletic player and hope whatever issue prevented him from seeing minutes gets resolved.
