    Re: Dale Moss

My opinion on Dale, very athletic, should be a defensive stopper. Not a fundamental offensive player, not a shooter, can penetrate but doesn't see the court well enough to find the open man or the open spot on the floor when he doesn't have the ball. Dale wasn't expected to be a scorer. We need him to play shut down time defense on the other teams best scoring guard or slashing forward.

Probably gonna catch some crap for this, but everytime I think of Dale Moss I think of how good he would have looked across from JaRon Harris catching footballs this year.

        Re: Dale Moss

The coaches will address what if any issues there are and communicate with the players so that they know exactly what it is that is expected of him. Then it is up to the player to either accept the challenge or not. That's what a coach does. Ask a player to step up to their potential for the good of the team. It is an issue for them to handle internally.

Anything we do on here is pretty much conjecture. Nothing wrong with that, it just is what it is.

If there is an issue in this case, I hope Dale takes it to heart and addresses it to the point where his actions demand more playing time. We need him right now. He is a very athletic player who has the ability to impact games. If he was a pure shooter as well we probably wouldn't have him at SDSU.

We need all the players right now, one thing we aren't is deep.

He was a great wide out at Brandon!

I thought they wasted his red-shirt last year, and now I am convinced of it.

Agreed. It's sad Moss will be a Junior already next year and yet has seen such little of the floor. I thought he played solid tonight and is so active on the offensive board.

I think they have to make Dale Moss into a Rashad McCants type of player.... The problem is he plays defense worse then McCants and McCants was not known for his defense...... You ask anybody that has played college basketball and especially coach Nagy and they'll say it don't matter how good of an athlete you are if you can't play a lil D, you ain't going to see the floor..... He played better D tonight but still had 4 fouls..... I think he'll figure it out.... And its not like Nagy is going to put him on the end of the bench and forget about him, he was the first off of the bench tonight and will probably get more playing time as the season moves on.....

I am not saying Dale is not a decent shooter, but Rashawn McCants was a shooter, flat out shooter. You don't just turn someone into a scorer like that.

                        Re: Dale Moss

When Dale was being recruited Coach Nagy talked about the fact that he would be a great shut-down defender and could play the point. He also said that they could teach Dale to shoot the ball, which everyone who saw him in high school knew he could not do. He could score at that level, but he could not shoot.

Now into his second season, how does he stack up on those points?

I thought I was the only one that remembered that. I'm not sure Dale got any attention from any other programs. I sure don't remember him being a "DI recruit". I trusted Coach Nagy's judgment at the time. Doesn't seem to be working out. I wonder if we could......better stop there.

Perhaps that red shirt that he never received would be beneficial? He's got loads of raw talent, it just needs to develop further. I suppose taking a redshirt between your sophomore and jr years (when not injured) would be strange.

I can somewhat agree with why you recruit someone like this. Dale is an athlete and obviously someone who could be on the basketball court or the football field. You take athletes and give them skills to become players (Jaron Harris for example--one year of HS football right?)

What I'm getting at is ANYONE can be taught to play defense if they are athletic enough. But you can't teach someone to be a scorer. Players just come that way. In basketball, you take athletes that really know how to score and teach them to play defense. If an athlete can score the basketball, they should definitely be able to play defense. And I'm not talking about someone who can sit outside and stroke the three. I'm talking about someone who can get to the basket, shoot from the outside a little, drive, dish, and FINISH!

Needless to say, if Dale plays like he did tonight, his minutes will follow. Great game for Dale. Nagy asked him to step up, and that is exactly what he did. Very encouraging.
