Kai started off aggressive. Mark played well today too. Bench was so much better (I know it is against a lower-division team but they just showed more gusto today).

Post-game interview with Nagy he stated VCU is probably the best team they will play this year. Very tough challenge for the men.
IMO,saying we would have won the other night if we had Josh is a bit of a stretch. He,along with just about everyone else ,played well today against a vastly inferior opponent.

With that said,Josh did play well. Also i was happy to see Kai hit some shots,Clint played 18 minutes and had 18 points and 7 boards.

The Jacks did what they were supposed to do; they beat a lessor team badly. That's a positive.

Didn't have a chance to log on until now and give my take on the game last night.

I echo what everyone else said above, it was great to see Josh out there on the court and he played very well. He made a number of very nice drives to the hoop and had some solid rebounds. Josh is a big body that we will need this year.

Clint was hitting his shots last night and was really hustling. Not sure how many rebounds he had but he was active.

Cordova appears to be a different guy from last year. Rebounded well and had some nice finishes. I'm really impressed with what I have seen from him so far this year.

Kai had his normal kind of game. Dale Moss had a really quiet 14 points. Just hustle plays and getting rebounds and putting them back in or getting to the charity stripe. Mac had a couple of nice drives with pullup jumpers but he was brutal from 3 last night. He should pick that up.

Engen showed some progression from last year which is great considering how thin we are down low.

Also got a lot of good playing time for 10 guys including Tivis and Wipf.

That being said, it was Mayville State and they weren't talented enough to put up much of a fight. We beat them a lot worse then the score indicated. Nagy said post game that the team should get a confidience boost from the win. Similar to the exhibition game, I don't think this game provided an indication on how the season will go.

VCU will be a very tough test!

Great post, pretty much summarizes what I would have to day. I've been a Cordova supporter from the start. If every kid that we recruit gives as much an effort as he does we'll be very proud of this team very soon. Again, a victory over Mayville State is no great accomplishment but it is a victory and we scored 90 points. Its been several years since we've done that.

I hadn't seen the outcome of this game yet, so I'm glad to see the Jacks put a big number up against anyone. It has been said accurately that this doesn't mean much for the season outlook, but at this point any win is a good win and all I can say is it can't hurt.

Terry's Argus write-up on the Mayville St. game.

No surprise: Jacks rout NAIA foe
            Terry Vandrovec • November 17, 2008

BROOKINGS - South Dakota State plays at the NCAA Division I level, Mayville State in NAIA Division II. So Sunday's meeting between the two should not have been close and - for the first time in a while against an overmatched opponent - the Jackrabbits made sure it wasn't.

In the first of two home games this season against lower-level clubs, SDSU beat the Comets 92-61 Sunday afternoon at Frost Arena, topping the 90-point mark for the first time since moving to Division I in 2004.

It was also the Jacks' largest margin of victory in four years - and they played 14 cross-classification contests in that time, losing five. Just two weeks ago, they dropped an exhibition against an NCAA Division II team.

            Baby steps.

"We talked about it before the game: We need to move forward," SDSU coach Scott Nagy said. "To me this shows a maturity level that we didn't have in the past. That's what a mature team does - you get a team you're supposed to hammer and you hammer them."

It was nice to see other players, getting some time on the floor to show what they can do.

This will only make them better as a team, Cassaday was very aggressive great to see, and Peyton played good minutes too.

Another game recap from the Register.
                http://www.brookingsregister.com/V2_...&story_id=3470
Mr. Casey Schlecter is doing a good job covering the men's squad.

The Jacks' offense came alive with a total team effort to beat winless Mayville State, 92-61 , Sunday afternoon at Frost Arena.

"It (Mayville State) is a team we should have beaten by 30," SDSU Coach Scott Nagy said. "The important thing for us is that we did it."

SDSU played well as 10 players saw minutes for the Jacks to help them improve to 1-1 on the season.

After a slow start to the game, the Jackrabbits offense started to find its groove with good outside shooting against the Comets' zone defense. Junior Kia Williams came out hot, scoring nine of his teamleading 11 first-half points in the first four minutes of the game. Sophomore Dale Moss came off the bench to contribute eight points while shooting 100 percent from the field and behind the 3-point arch and 75 percent from the free throw line, helping give SDSU a 48-25 lead at the half.

Hopefully he spelled Kai's name correctly in the story that appeared in the Register...otherwise he has flunked Story Writing 101.

Joe...I'm not trashing him, I'm just trying to impress on aspiring young journalists that they don't depend on spell checkers to catch their mistakes (they should be able to write without spell checkers...a more modern "advancement")...and they certainly need to make sure they spell people's names correct. Kai has been called Kia before, but writers covering men's basketball should be able to spell the players' names IMHO.

Which shows that Mayville is no good and little else.
