The Vandals lost at home to NDSU 91-76 at home last Friday night.

This feels like a winnable game, even with the early struggles of our young Jackrabbits . . .

      Re: Idaho

Going to try to get back to Frost for this game. I think its winnable, we will see. I noticed Butler beat Notre Dame last night. Couldn't stop their outside shooting and got out hustled. I remember Butler doing that to us last year. Nice win for Vermont over B.C. Minnesota just took it to NDSU in the 2nd half. Good bounce back from the exhibition performance (which doesn't count).

        Re: Idaho

I'm looking forward to seeing the Jackrabbit men Thursday in Frost beating Idaho.   I took a look at Idaho's website and note the slogan is "From here you can go anywhere!"

Did they have that before or after SDSU came up with the "You can go anywhere from here" campaign?  Irrespective of which school had the idea first, SDSU's is much smoother.  If Idaho came up with the similar slogan first, then SDSU gets credit for improving it.  If Idaho saw SDSU's slogan and copied it, take points away from Idaho for a lame idea.

The Vandals (I think they're the only school with that nickname -- I wonder if people sitting in jails, convicted of theft, are upset about the name ) opened their season with an 82-36 win in exhibition against Cascade College and then lost, at home, to NDSU as noted by Filbert when he started this thread.  1,195 souls showed up in Moscow, ID to watch the Bison beat the Vandals.  I hope Frost has a great crowd to set the stage for this regular-season win.

It's impossible to judge a team based on stats from one game.  With that in mind, I note that the NDSU game stats for Idaho weren't impressive.

This is an ideal opponent for the Jacks to continue working out the kinks and growing as a team...and notch a home victory.

Jim Meehan is a reporter covering the U of Idaho Vandals for the Boise Spokesman-Review daily newspaper. Meehan also has a blog: http://www.spokesmanreview.com/blogs/vandals/

Here are a few notes from Meehan's "Snapshots from George Pfeiffer teleconference" (Pfeiffer is the Vandals Men's basektball coach):

Pfeifer said Thursday's opponent South Dakota State, off to an 0-3 start, is much like Idaho. "They have a lot of young players and a lot of new players," he said.

Pfeifer said defense was the team's practice emphasis on Saturday and Monday after the opening-game loss to N.D. State.

On Mike Kale's knee injury, Pfeifer said he won't specify the problem for HIPPA reasons. It's obviously a serious injury as Kale sat on the bench Friday with his leg extended straight out. "We're in the process of trying to fix it," Pfeifer said. Read: surgery?

Mitchell Johnson, who is returning to full strength after an auto accident, should make his debut Thursday. He was finally cleared to play Tuesday by the NCAA. "He's a four-year transfer so he had to sit out a residency year (last year), but when he got in the car wreck last spring he had to withdraw from classes," Pfeifer said.

It sounds like they got their school slogan from Yoda.

If we had a "biggest dork" contest for the posters on this site it would be one heated battle. I'd like to think I would have a shot but I'm pretty sure I'd lose to someone more deserving. I have never quoted Yoda and never intend to. The closest I want to get to that is quoting Filbert quoting Yoda.

Right, doc. You probably typed that while camping out in front of the Best Buy so you can get first dibs on a PS3.

Hey, the resale on those things is anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000. If I can get my hands on one at Target or Best Buy on Friday for $400, I would be one happy camper.

My fear is more Yoda quotes or any quotes from movies that include "Star" in their title.

I still haven't decided if I'm making the trip back to Frost tomorrow night or not. I think the game will be competitive and I love watching Cadwell play. With Williams and Bassett as newcomers I think the trip would be worth it just to watch them. It likely hinges on finding a babysitter for the 3 month old as my wife has a haircut and volleyball tomorrow night.

                              OK, how about:

                              Exterminate! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

Coming back to Earth (before the Daleks take it over yet again), I'll be in Frost this weekend for the USC, Idaho, and SW Minnesota State games, with my sometimes chagrined Snookums.
