Re: UMKC - - Hoops for the Holidays

This game made a believer out of me. If our youngsters come together as a disciplined team, we could be back on track. We have some fine talent .

Great win for the Jacks. Montana St is another very winnable game. Thank God these 5 five game road swings will be done once conference affiliation starts next season.

Haven't heard anything from those Mavmorons that cheer for the Roos yet. They must be off for Xmas. Congrats Jacks and knock off Montana St. on Friday.

with basically only playing 5 guys and pulling out a OT win is pretty nice...cadwell being the #5 scorer and getting the W is kind of a nice thing to see

Great Game tonight by the team especially for being so short-handed. I didn't see a live blog from Terry V on the Argus site, he was planning on being in KC...did the storm force him to come back early as well?

Just keep the tank half full not half empty. Be positive. You are what you think you are. If we play with energy and a good attitude we will be ok. We need to be the Butler of the midwest.

Re: UMKC - - Hoops for the Holidays

Just got back home from the game (and a quick stop at the Quaff downtown KC) . . . listening to the game on tape-delay on 810 WHB as I type . . .

A lot of heart from the Jackrabbits tonight. They were, again, undersized, but battled down low and came through with their share of rebounds. Frias played as good a game as I've seen (granted, I haven't seen every game) but still makes you cringe every once in a while.

Kai Williams had a nice game, and really seemed to play more assertively late in the game. Bassett and Callahan both had "he's a freshman" moments in the game, but I don't remember Kai having one of those--and that's a good sign. Even the WHB Kansas City radio announcer thought he was fouled on his dunk attempt in the first half.

The Jacks had moments tonight when they had really good ball movement on offense, that seemed to come out of nowhere. They'd have a number of "pass-look-wait-pass-look-wait-pass-look-wait-pass-look-wait" possessions, then all of the sudden they'd come down on the next couple of possessions that were more like "pass-pass-pass-pass-score". Very nice to see.

The guys found a little bit of a comfort zone tonight, and I was so happy to see that. They're still going to struggle to win games the rest of the year because they're so undersized, but they showed tonight a bit of that toughness that Nagy's been searching for.

Wow, what a fun game to watch. It was also fun gathering with the SDSU Faitful before and after the game. I even got ropped into singing the Fight Song with a very nice lady who made the trip down from South Dakota at the Quaff.

                    Go State!

                      Annoying story from KC Star.

                      My least favorite line:

"It’s hard to measure whether this loss by UMKC was worse than dropping an exhibition game to NAIA Park University."

Actually, it's quite easy to measure whether a loss to SDSU is worse. It's not.

I wrote the reporter and his editor a short email about how he's entitled to his "cutting analysis" but that line is way, way over the top. I'm not sure the reporter knows that those two teams will be in the same conference next year. I wonder if he saw that against common opponent UNI, UMKC lost by 32 and SDSU by 13. Jeez. A little homework, please.

Not suprising, thanks for trying to improve his ignorance. Any win is a great win for this team. I think they are growing up.

Terry has a new post about lasts night game; Municipal Auditorium doesn’t have the internet, so he couldn't blog from the game.

There is the argus story on last night's game.  I thought this was quite interesting:

Without undersized center Michael Loney, who will have knee surgery today and miss at least two weeks
I don't know if this is a typo or if we've been reporting something wrong on here.  Hopefully this is the case and we will get Loney back a lot sooner than we thought we were going to.

UMKC is not exactly a juggernaut. The Kangaroos (and Kansas City Star's writer) had better get used to UMKC getting beaten by SDSU. It will happen with a great deal of regularity in the years ahead.
