The Golden Knights are 11-2 on the year, but have played most of their games so far at home (and not against the stiffest of competition).  They will be starting their longest road trip of the season (4 games) when they play Colorado on the 3rd, just three days before our game.  The two games after us are conference games (C-USA); however it is hard to believe that they will over look us.

Here is a link to their Basketball web site:

Hopefully we get a few people back from injuries and we can "surprise" the Golden Knights yet again.

Men's Basketball to Begin 2007 on the Road

UCF faces Colorado on Wednesday evening.

    Jan. 1, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Off to an impressive 10-2 start, the UCF men's basketball team will now play six of its next eight games away from Orlando. The tough stretch begins on Wednesday at Colorado.

Tip-off at the Coors Event Center is set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern. Colorado is 3-6 on the year.

The Golden Knights have won three-consecutive contests. UCF is off to a 10-2 start for only the second time since moving to the Division I level prior to the 1984-85 campaign. The other 10-2 start came during the 2003-04 season.   .  .  .

Up Next: UCF concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule on Saturday at South Dakota State. The teams will be meeting for the third-straight year and the all-time series is tied, 1-1. The contest will mark the first series matchup in South Dakota. On Jan. 18, 2006, the Jackrabbits rallied from a 17-point deficit at the half to post a 69-64 victory in Orlando. Matt Cadwell was 11-of-11 at the free-throw line on his way to a game-high 26 points in the win. South Dakota State shot 88 percent at the line and forced 17 UCF turnovers. Josh Peppers paced the Golden Knights with 15 points. In two contests against South Dakota State, Peppers is averaging 15 points and 4.5 rebounds.  (read more)

      From the Rapid City Journal:

2007 Lamb Bonanza set for Jan. 6 at SDSU

South Dakota State University’s 15th annual Lamb Bonanza is set for Saturday, Jan. 6, at Frost Arena in Brookings.

The event showcases lamb and wool in conjunction with an evening of SDSU basketball, SDSU Extension sheep specialist Jeff Held said in a news release.

Members of the South Dakota Sheep Growers’ Association will serve leg of lamb sandwiches and crackers with lamb spread from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the north side of the track in Frost Arena.

The SDSU men’s basketball team will face the University of Central Florida at 7 p.m. as part of the event. Call 1-866-GO-JACKS to order tickets, or buy them at the door.

During halftime, lamb pelts with the letters “SDSU” on them will be auctioned. Proceeds go to provide scholarships to undergraduates enrolled in the SDSU Department of Animal and Range Sciences and the SDSU Athletic Department.  .  .  .  (read more)

          A little more about UCF:
Famous Alums include: Female soccer player Michelle Aker, Daunte Culpepper, many corrections officers in the great state of Florida, Miss Venezuela 2004, Shawn Jefferson former NFL wide receiver, Miss USA 2004, the sheriff of Orange County Florida, 2006 Pro Bowl Snub Asante Samuel and many others.

          Other Useless Info:
UCF holds the Guinness Book of Records entry for 108 people on a waterbed. Actor James Best, aka Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane from the Dukes of Hazzard taught classes at UCF. The Blair Witch Project, was filmed by UCF students.

            Re: Central Florida

The current men's RPI is 332, not too good considering there are only 336 teams in DI but the main reason is our strength of schedule which is dead last. That should change over the next couple games though, especially against Butler who has an RPI of 4.
I wonder how playing non-DI schools affects your RPI, NDSU has 4 D-II or NAIA schools on thier schedule within 6 games.

This is interesting. I loved Dukes of Hazzard. One thing I would have liked to have done is to meet James Best and Soral Brook in person, as you had the feeling that out of character they were completly different people. Soral Brook who played Boss Hoag I believe is no longer living.  James Best must be a very smart person if he taught classes at UCF or anywhere else, very much different from his lame character in the Dukes. I guess there are many ways to put food on his table.

                Re: Central Florida

Reading the Daytona Beach paper tonight I see they lost to Colorado. They blamed it on Colorado being fresh. Having a great vacation, but it is a bummer missing the Marquette and UCF game. Kind of ironic that we drove by UCF in Orlando today.....

                    Re: Central Florida

UCF is a little better than DSU and I think you will appreciate that right away. Gonna be tough for the Jacks to hang in on this one. We'll need to overachieve quite a bit to give UCF a game. I am sure they are looking past a team with an rpi of 332 with their conference schedule about to begin.

I'll be listening to see if our guys can play disciplined while facing a much better team. I think its going to be tough.

                      Re: Central Florida

I'm ready just got the Rabbit Den Readers done for the game. When they say hot off the press these will be hot off the press. at 10-3 UCF might be better than Utah State when they came here. I know there is a post game press conference so those at the game stick around.

Loney out, Engen out, Bassett has been ill all week. Andy is in uniform. Short bench against a very good team. I don't think I need to say anymore.
