Who is on the team right now? They have 11 on the bench 9 dressing in which 2 are walk-ons. Who are the football players that were supposedly asked to join, im assuming that Steffens and Wagner are 2 of them who are the other 2?
What I am getting at is who is going to be on scholarship next year.
So we take 11-2 for walk ons then -2 more for seniors and we have 6 plus 2 redshirt players or freshman that arn't suiting up for other reasons that gives up 8 plus 2 we have signed for next year and there is 10. plus 2 walk ons again that gives us a 12 man roster next year. That is a lil small I really think we need those football players or other players in general or walk ons or something because until we have a 15 man roster 13 scholarship 2 walk ons were going to have the same old story. If we only have 10 players who can practice how can the team run any drills? If I was the football coach I would have some players out there just practicing with the team to get them into shape, it must not of did too much harm to those football players.

Wasn't trying to single you out filbert, sorry if I offended. And honestly, I haven't read every post on this thread and didn't catch the context of your post. Just tossing out a little quip because it seems like any time this team is looking worse and worse someone inevitably brings Matt Jones' name up like he was the "Chosen One". No disrespect to Matt, he was good. Sorry, my bad.

Catchem, I would not mind have a slice of that dollar amount as would be substantial. I mean no ill will towards Matt either, but his true freshman year where he contributed a great deal occurred in 2001-02.

It is now five years later, if healthy, Matt's eligibilty would have been used up. Counting 2005-06, you have 10 semesters and counting this current year, you would have six full years and 12 semesters, and I wonder if he would have had any eligiblity left under D1 regs.  The point is time is moving on whether we like it or not. Matt is part of the past and certainly not part of the present situation. He was a super athlete.

Or even the next Chris Stoebner or Austin Hansen or Brian Norberg or Derrick Schantz or Bill Fischer or Josh Cerveny or Tom Rops or Casey Estling, etc...

The current crop has yet to demonstrate anything that makes me think of these guys. Of course, the current crop is young but none of the previous 3 years has provided anything close to the guys I listed (IMO). More concerning, the current team doesn't play like the teams those guys came together to create.

Cadwell is an impressive scorer but he doesn't make people better like the list of guys above could. That, my friends, is what I see wrong with this team. Maybe Callahan is that kind of player, can't tell that right now. I'm not convinced that any of the current crop will develop into the type of players and therefore type of team we saw with the guys listed above.

Now, I'm not impractical and I assure you I understand the difference in the level of competition as well as all the difficulty that has come with the transition. I am saying I have a pretty good idea of why this team is losing and I don't see that changing any time soon. I hope I'm wrong and I will continue to support the development of the current SDSU players and their team. Losing is discouraging but it doesn't mean we're losers. I think Nagy has built a program that can sustain, its just turning out to be a lot tougher than most expected.

I can assure you that the football team isn't just sitting around. They are probably in the weight room with some off-season conditioning program.

Wags lost over 10 pounds playing ball last year.  So if you want the guys to be smaller weightwise, then sure let them play basketball.  But I am only aware of 2 players being asked.

Joeboo, you want to see what the football players do to stay in shape over the winter? Run over to the HPER at 6 am on a Mon, Tues, Thurs or Fri when school starts back up again. I assure you they are plenty busy preparing for next season.

With our group who played remarkably well as a unit tonight, do we need to add football players? I suppose they can add depth and maybe help out on the inside, but maybe we should let the nine guys who dressed and played tonight come together as a regular unit. Either way it's no big deal what happens. I just want to see a well dicsiplined team on the floor.

There's merit in those comments.  The guys had some team chemistry tonight.  That's a great foundation.  I worry about how many games they can play 40 or 45 minutes...but, they sure did it tonight.
