Trust me . . . after having been to three of the ten other Summit League schools so far . . . SDSU's fan support is really exceptionally good. It's a measure of how remarkable SDSU's fan base is that we are so bitterly disappointed with attendance numbers that most of our new conference-mates would KILL to have.

Qualifiers aside, our president might have to start lobbying to keep USD and UND out of the summit. The crowds at the Dome and the Betty might actually look good in comparison to some of these. The Vidalabene Center at SIUE holds about 4000 if memory serves me right. That actually might be better than some of these venues, although I'm sure as a commuter school attendance is probably in line with other Summit schools.

Here is the biggest difference, assists to turnovers.

IUPUI had 15 assists and 6 turnovers.

We had 5 assists and 17 turnovers.

Plus we shot 15% on 3-pointers. I was going to go out there for the weekend, but sure glad I didn't.

Here's the key stat to look at when considering the decline in attendance at Frost Arena:

2004-05: 10-18
2005-06: 9-27
2006-07: 6-24
2007-08: 6-11 (so far)

Until the number before the hyphen comes close to (or, preferably, exceeds) the number behind the hyphen, attendance will be poor in Frost Arena.

SDSU lead the nation in attendance in Division II the last few years before we moved up. We're not going to lead the nation in attendance in D-I, but it's not unreasonable to think that if we put a competitive team on the court, that we will draw 3-4,000 fans a night.

The trick is to put a competitive team on the court. That's been the problem.

WIU is not a commuter school like most of the others in the Summit. The difference in attendance between basketball and football is the product on the court. The Kangaroos and Jaguars have another problem entirely. Having attended SIUE and UWM and having received a degree from Georgia State, I can tell you that few of the students I ran into (admittedly at the graduate level) paid any attention to athletics.

True, any road win we get will be tough. I watched the last 10 minutes of the Bison game and it looked rough.

I don't think selfishness was a problem today. A couple sketchy shots, but that's going to happen every game and with every team.

No one can make Kai shoot. Everyone wants him to shoot and not pass up shots so much, at least, I know I do! But, that is going to be up to Kai. I think it is about time that we all realize Kai isn't going to get a lot of open shots because he is a focal point of this team. If he won't create more of his own shots than right about 6-10 shots is going to be something we see quite often.

Like I've said before, can someone point out who is taking too many shots. When I look at the stats tonight, I see maybe one sub that took more shots than he should be.

Some items in the article that stood out for me -

A quote from the IUPUI coach - We have eight guys in our program that are 22 or older, so they've been through the wars."
We've heard Coach Nagy say it before, "boys against men". That may be a cliche, but it is also true, that's how it got to be a cliche. Lack of experience can't remain an excuse forever, but right now it is a significant reason for the difficulties they are experiencing.

And the one that summarizes it all -
"We haven't figured it out yet," said Sargent, who scored eight points. "We still have to come together as a team and be more aggressive and have a mindset that we're a good team. Because right now we don't believe that."

Despite the last 2 games I still think this team is close. Coach Nagy believes he has a good team, now the team needs to believe. I hope the break-thru happens soon.

What seems to be in favor of the Jacks are the 7 remaining home games against Summit opponents. We need to help our guys out , by being present and giving them encouraging cheer. I think the staff has their work cut out for them, but they are capable people and will find a way. The young guys which is nearly the entire roster, need all the encouragement that can be given.

This is very true. This young team needs all the support we can muster right now. Playing on the road in January and February is very tough business even for veteran upper classmen. It is very easy to be a loyal Jack Fan when we are winning. Now is the time for all of us to step up and show up. Every time I see Coach Nagy now he looks tired. If he is tired consider the players who have to go back to classes the next day after a long and late flight home. I for one am happy these young men are putting in the effort for SDSU. Existing record aside, we can be very proud of this group.

I couldn't agree more with Nidaros and JackRP. This is a VERY young team that needs its fans behind them to get them over the hump.

We're putting talent on the court to match up with anybody in the Summit League. What's not there is the experience and the confidence. That's got to come from the players.

Who wants to miss the game in Frost when the light goes on for our young guys and they blow somebody completely out of the arena? It'll happen--it almost happened to IPFW. It could happen this weekend.

When it happens, it'll be a LOT of fun to watch.
