IHCC Gets Postseason Win, Awaits Iowa Western
Ottumwa --- For the first time in four years, Indian Hills has won a postseason game and moved on to the Region XI championship series. The Warriors opened up a 15-point halftime lead on the way to an 86-70 win over Marshalltown at the Hellyer Center on Friday night. Indian Hills now takes on Iowa Western, who beat Southeastern Friday, in a best-of-three series to determine the region champ and the Region XI represenative in this month's NJCAA national tourney in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Marshalltown scored the first basket of Friday's game, the only lead of the night for the visiting Tigers. The Warriors quickly ran off eight straight points. MCC cut the lead to one on two occasions. After IHCC opened a 33-24 advantage, Marshalltown narrowed the deficit to 33-31.
But the Warriors scored the next 12 points and when Dominique Thuston hit a three-pointer right before the first half buzzer, Indian Hills completed a 15-2 spurt over the final two and a half minutes of the first half and led 48-33 at intermission.
The Warriors settled matters early in the second half, taking a 21-point lead at 60-39. Marshalltown never got closer than 14 points after that.
Nestor Colmenares led Indian Hills with 22 points. Both Kashif Watson and David DuBois added 16 for the Warriors, now 30-and-0. Robert Eppinger pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Warriors in that category. DaShawn Wright's 21 points paced Marshalltown, which closed the season with a 16-15 record.
The Tigers' Kenard Moore, the region's scoring leader at over 18 points a game, got in early foul trouble and was not a factor. Moore had three fouls in a scoreless first half, and managed only seven points in the final 20 minutes. He hit MCC's lone three-pointer of the night. Marshalltown came into the game averaging nearly nine three-pointers a game.
The Warriors will host the first game of the region title series with Iowa Western on Monday night at the Hellyer Center at 7:00. Indian Hills earned the number one seed and homecourt advantage with a win at Iowa Western last Monday. They defeated the Reivers 64-55 on their earlier visit to Ottumwa.
Game two of the series will be played in Council Bluffs on Wednesday. And if a third game is necessary, it will be on IHCC's home floor on Friday night.

Sean Haluska is on the Indian Hills team. He's Adam Haluska's younger brother. Adam is stud for the Hawkeyes, not for certain but I think he led the big 10 in scoring this year. Not saying Sean is any good or anything, just a quick tidbit.
