I got my 2007-2008 Men's Basketball Media Guide before the game tonight.

I must say Ryan Sweeter, Eric Landwehr, and Ty Carlson did a great job on the Media Guide. Big Props to them.

For those who don't know who Ty is, he is a current construction management major, a former photographer for the Collegian, a volunteer firefighter, and a great guy. I have to say some of his pictures are pretty amazing.

While listening to Nagy on the way home last night, he stated the officiating was tight, but the NCAA has asked the refs to call the fouls away from the ball this year. He said the players on both teams did not adjust to the refs at all. These refs really listened to the NCAA. Personally...let 'em play. Too much time w/o the clock running last night.

          My game notes...
There is no question the level of athleticism of the team has increased.

I'd really like to be there when Kai decides to just go off. That would be fun!

I thought the crowd on the North side did a good job getting into the game when it was necessary.

The Idaho fans that came were very nice. They were cheering for the kids running around shooting hoops after the game and really enjoying themselves.

Spoke with TV and his wife briefly after the game. Thanked her for her sacrifice. Very nice couple!

Can someone with more basketball knowledge than me (that would be slightly more than 0) explain the benefit of officials paying attention to the action away from the ball more than on it. It seemed to me that they were so focused on what was going on around that they missed some players getting killed trying to shoot. I guess my comparison would be that if you wanted to call holding you could on every play in football, yet the officials tend to focus on only the most egregious of these fouls and let the rest play. Why not do the same in basketball? I'm guessing that every time down the court someone could be called for a push when fighting for position (and I believe these officials really tried). Why focus on every little ticky tack foul and just get the worst of the bunch. This way when a guy gets mauled going through the lane you actually have one set of eyes on that.

Last night was a fun game. We played ok and still won going away. Should have won by more but oh well. Kai, Ben, Palarca, Callahan, and Sargent are definately coming together as a crew. A very formidable group if they are all on. The noise in Frost at times was good last night. Nagy has this team coming on together as a group, unlike teams in the past were certain individuals felt they were more important than their teammates. Good Crowd, slightly disappointed there wasn't more than 2,000 there but winning more and more games will do that. Hopefully we can get a good crowd in for the Denver game Tuesday night. I think the men's team is back for sure and a win Tuesday with verify for me that the men are back. Come out and Back the Jacks a week before Christmas.

Apparently some of us in the front row also taunted a UPD officer during the game by staring back at him. Not sure how that works but it was an interesting conversation after the game with them.

It certainly didn't sound fun on the tracker.

Once again, Ben B. quickly got into foul trouble. He picked up his first foul about 30 seconds into the game and had two early on. He had to spend too much time on the bench. The Jacks need him on the floor more, or at least the option of having him on the floor.

Overall, the Jacks played tough and bigger than their size. Idaho had a couple of 6-10 guys and a couple of speedy guards. It wasn't poetry, but the Jacks controlled the flow.

I agree...he needs to learn not to be so aggressive at times. A lot of the fouls he gets are BS and away from the ball but he needs to learn more quickly how the refs are going to call the game. Last night's game was called extremely tight so that only compounded things. We are a better team on both sides of the ball with Ben on the floor!!!
