    Re: UW-Green Bay

Dale Moss will help our D against top notch athletes, but as a team we need to get more athletic. At the start of the year I predicted 15 wins, then I thought less than 10 now I dont know what to think.

I think the Jacks will be in a lot of close games this year. If we can win them we could end up with a great record. If not, well, it won't be so good.

These guys beat us 80-48 (or something close to that) last year. We're better this year. Thats a fact Jack.

Radar and Davis will help inside to replace Mo and Ben, but our perimeter D may still be an issue next year.

            Re: UW-Green Bay

A solid effort by the Jacks tonight. Had some kids step up when they needed(ie - Williams out for 10 minutes in the second half and we didn't miss a beat).

Defense surely needs to improve, but Fletcher was amazing tonight. He didn't start, did he? What a performance.

Looking at where we are compared to last year, there is really no comparison. We have played four pretty good teams(Montana, UWM, UNI, UWGB) and although we are 1-3 against them, the point margin was just 19 points compared to 102 last year. The Jacks have been in all four of those games, which is something we couldn't say last year.

These guys will continue to improve all year. We still haven't gotten to use Berte much, but hopefully he can help strengthen the rebounding down low. With conditioning, I think his fouls will go down - did he have trouble with fouls two years ago? I don't remember that far back.

I don't think 15 wins is out of the question - These Jacks will play with every team remaining on the schedule.

I think it is important for us as fans to show our support for the players and coaches. I wanted to be there so bad tonight(watched it on SummitTV instead), and hopefully the weather was the reason for the lower attendence. There is good basketball being played at Frost this year! The Jacks are exciting to watch again!

Did Nagy talk about anything else? Can we get a recap of his interview - my audio shut off.

Most of what Nagy discussed was very unhappy with the defensive effort.

                Fletcher:

                12-14 fg, 4-4 3pt, 29pts.

I don't believe I've ever bore witness to someone having a night like that....it was incredible.

I don't even know when or where he missed 2 shots from...I don't remember him missing a shot at all.

Any other night, any other team, shooting the way we shot the ball, we would have won the game, it was just unfortunate that tonight, UWGB was just as hot as we were.

Man, that was a good basketball game.

My only gripe, man the refs seem to be really tick-tacky this year...seems every game they the tick-tackiest calls.

                I love Jackrabbit basketball!

The offense really slowed down with out Kai in it..... It was better tonight then the past but it still slowed down when he was out..... I only watched some of it but the guy for them that went off really went off it wasn't so much bad defense as just being hot the guy was pulling up hitting threes driving the lane and throwing up shots that were falling...... The team is a lot better then they have been in the past I watched the game against UWGB last year and it was embarresing this year the team shows that they want to win..... I think Palarca needs to play more the offense flows better with him he still needs to learn like all fast PG when to run and when to slow it down but with him in it seems to flow a lot better.

Just returned to Watertown from the game. Excepting only the comment about the refs in this game, I agree completely with rodrawks. This was an excellent game between two very evenly matched teams (Yeah, no question: Green Bay is not a better team than SDSU --- any NDSU fans reading this?). The tipping factor was the lights-out shooting of #20. I thought our defense was pretty darned good...but that guy could shoot off-balance and from anywhere. It had to be his best performance of the season.

With respect to the refs, in my opinion the refs were a non-factor--evenly called the game.

I left Frost VERY pleased with the progress of the Jackrabbit team. This team will soon be winning the close ones. More than fifteen wins is not only possible but highly likely with this group.

Most important: this is very good basketball. We are very evenly matched with a good Green Bay team. Just compare the stats. I don't think I'll be engaging in conversations trying to compare our great DII teams with where we are now. This is entirely different basketball.

The crowd size was unfortunate but not unexpected due to the weather. The interestate north of Brookings was fine. We didn't get the rain/sleet that came down south of I-90.

The Jacks are back. Man, that was good to see.

                      The story on GoJacks.com:

BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State committed a season-low eight turnovers, dished out a season-high 21 assists and Ben Beran led three Jackrabbits in double-figures with 20 points, but Wisconsin Green-Bay failed to score on only one possession in the last nine minutes, which made the difference in the Phoenix 88-81 win on Saturday at Frost Arena.

The loss drops the Jacks to an even 3-3 entering Summit League play on Thursday at Centenary, while UWGB improves to 5-2 with the win.

I only listen to the game on a weak WNAX signal, but I would agree with JDJack that this team is not comparable to D2 teams even the very best. When the true freshman are seniors, we should have a very competitive program. I dont know how you can stop a Fletcher, but I am sure the coaches will attempt to deal with that. 12 of 14 fg's is very unreal. I would think the chances of having repeat of this performance would be very difficult. Since Fletcher is only a Freshman, its hard to say how good he actually is.
I would like him in a Jack uniform.

None the less our guys played their best and that about all we can ask for.

We have our work cut out for us again Thursday as I see Centenary beat Texas Tech Saturday night. Not too shabby.

UWGB is very athletic, and it showed in those two runs that erased our big leads. We just didn't have an answer for their athleticism. Callahan couldn't handle Fletcher at all. Kai's foul trouble hurt us. Loney gives a nice spark, and can shut down slower players like that giant from UNI, but he really struggles defending athletes like the Phoenix put on the floor.

Those are the kinds of games we'll have to win in the future to be considered a solid mid-major. But you have to be happy with the progress already this year.

I don't know if Callahan really couldn't handle Fletcher. I think they run their picks better. If you watched Fletcher, he would leave no room around his pick for our defender to squeeze through. Our defender would have to run behind their pick and that little room was all he needed. The one thing I didn't like was how Fletcher was using his off hand/arm and freeing space in front of the ref and he didn't get called for one foul. I also couldn't believe how #23 (I think his name was Berry but I didn't get a program this game) didn't get called for one moving screen. I just think the refs this year are so unpredictable. I've seen so many light touches called fouls and then people get knocked on their ash (misspelled on purpose) and nothing is called. I still think the Jacks played as a team tonight (21 assist is proof of unselfish play).
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

Bub94's comments are accurate. Callahan was doing fine...Fletcher just had a great game. I didn't want to comment on the refs but bub94 is right again: lots of moving screens and Fletcher using his free arm to continually clear his path. But I think the kind of officiating that will suit this team better is the kind that allows it to get a little rough. I'm confident we can be very physical and will wins games because other teams won't push us around.

That was a good game last night.

                                Here's the story on UW-Green Bay's website:

Harsh Weather Can't Stop Fletcher, Phoenix in South Dakota

Freshman pours in 29 to pace Green Bay to 88-81 victory

Rahmon Fletcher poured in 29 points at South Dakota State Saturday night.

BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Green Bay Phoenix (5-2) was locked in a classic duel with South Dakota State (3-3) Saturday night in Brookings, S.D., and came away with an impressive 88-81 victory over the Jackrabbits. Freshman Rahmon Fletcher (Kansas City, Mo.), who did not start for the first time in his brief career, poured in a career-high 29 points off the bench, the most by a Green Bay player this season.

Green Bay fought hard for its first road victory of the campaign, battling from behind with a pair of 13-2 runs. The first came when the Phoenix, which trailed by 10 with 4:22 left in the first half, closed the stanza with a 13-2 surge to take a 40-39 halftime lead. The spurt was capped off by a highlight-reel pass from Fletcher to Randy Berry (Plover, Wis.), who thundered home a dunk as part of his career-high 13 points.

As this season unfolds, note the subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) differences in how the Jackrabbits are described in opponents' stories. In the past couple of years, the adjectives used and game descriptions painted a picture that we were often sorely out of place. This year, we're a worthy opponent.
