Ohh thats right you did not see the game, my bad.
I did listen to the game the pregame also and some of the post game... gonna buy the summit league package for the next game.... That is a problem that SDSU has had for a while. basketball is a game of runs you see it all the time a 20-0 run followed by a 24-0 run and stuff like that some of that is experience but I also thin they are bottle necking it to a certain point they come out hard then they can't maintain it.... the good thing is generally that is easily fixed that makes me think that the best 5 are out there to start but the first guys off the bench aren't helping much. I think that will be fixed when the coaches get a feel of who works best together you saw it in the girls games also.....

Sorry Joe, I also forgot that maybe you did see the game through the streaming process or was that not available, in that case you did see he game even though you were in Spearfish. I wish I could have taken a coaching course and have thought about doing so at SDSU. You would learn a great deal about the sport, that is for certain.

I would agree its wrong to call out a young team. SDSU is very young, but I like the looks of the talent.

I heard a repeat maybe twice of exceprts from Coach Nagy's post game show on KJJQ today. Coach Nagy indicated that the flow of the game was not good. Beran was like 4 of 13 in FG and Kia Williams was 4-9 and had those two individuals had a higher fg percentage the flow of the game would have taken off. Nagy also said they did not match up as well against small players that Mary as opposed to the UND scrimmage, where the players were bigger and the flow was much better. I do think Mary had some video from last season as they really keep Kia tied down a great deal, he seldom got a look at the bucket which might explain his 9 FG attempts for the entire game. Seems like he has taken more shots and also had them go down.

Its all about patience. The little guard Palarca and Cordova impress me the most right now. I think we will start to improve. Its not going to happen over night. I am pleased with the changes in coaching staff, their recruiting efforts and the extra assistant no doubt helps pick up the slack in many ways.

I willing to bet all the corrections that Cadsev pointed out are being mentioned more than once in daily practice. Eventually the message is going to sink in and we will start to see some progress. I not perfect and neither is the current SDSU roster, but they could all beat most of us on the message board very handily in one on one half court BB. A Lazy Boy contest of some sort is more to my liking.

Look no further than the SU's to see that. I'll continue to say it doesn't matter who the opponent has been thus far, SDSU hasn't played like they should.
Actually that is not true. USD was right behind SDSU for success. I believe USD had 5 or 6 conference titles since the early 90's and had 2 elite 8 appearances. SDSU actually lost in the regional on their home court twice and didn't make the elite 8. None of the NCC teams in quite awhile have been a true national contender. Don't say SDSU was heads and shoulders above everyone else in the NCC because it is not true.

Key points that you made. usd2 was right BEHIND SDSU. In 1997 SDSU was at the Elite 8. They also have a National Championship and a Runner-up finish. SDSU has always been heads and shoulders above usd2. Any sport, any time.

USD won a national title before SDSU so the Yotes were the pioneers in that area. Looks like another long year for SDSU basketball. Good thing you aren't playing the Yotes this year. The Blue and Yellow isn't ready for that type of competition just yet. We'll see how SDSU and USD fair against Mary this year. USD plays them on a neutral court. SDSU already had their shot at home.

And by the way if SDSU has always been heads and shoulder above USD in any sport where is your national runner up in football and what is your overall record against USD?

I look at that and say he is good he has the family gene pool on his side but my question is this? When it comes down to the fact that SDSU has 1 hs scholarship to give for this year and next does it come down to wants or needs... Unless this kid is michael jordan I think a post or somebody that can board would better suite this team....
Ok I'll trust my sources (coaches actually doing the recruiting) over yours any day...high school kids. He does not have a ton of D-II offers..only one....he also only has one DI offer and that may be off the table now with the early signing period beginning tomorrow. Please refrain from posting more information about his recruitment as it's completely wrong and speculative. You do not have the facts.

I had to go back three or four times to verify the subject of this thread: U of Mary Game Thread. This thread is starting to get pretty ripe...so ripe, the carrion eater is showing up (the prairie wolf from down south) and making comments.

The game's done. It's in the W column.

The last three pages of posts confirms one thing with certainty: it must be basketball season because JoeBoo, you're getting under people's skin again!

I can shut the thread down but how about everyone give it a rest instead (leaving open the possibility of some REALLY enlightening post!).

and personally, I like this team. I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do against Montana. I may not have any voice left after yelling as the Jacks tip over the Bison that afternoon.

                Go Jackrabbits!

I was at the game so I will post my opinions/observations.

I thought the defense for this game was better than the defense shown in the DWU game. There was more hustle in the first half and it reminded me of past years.

Way to many turnovers. Traveling, carrying/palming, and errant passes were killing us. Mary also had the same turnovers being called against them.

Cordova was rebounding good. Kai was doing it in the beginning of the game. No one else really stood out on the rebounding.

Kai is going to be a black and blue player this year if he keeps driving to the basket the rest of the year like he did tonight. He took a couple of solid falls.

Clint wasn't afraid the drive the lane tonight since his outside shot wasn't as open this week. Callahan was driving nicely too.

It will be nice to see how Cassidy plays when his hand gets healed. I think there were times he wanted to drive but just couldn't handle the ball with the tape job on his right hand.

I still want to hold out hope for Thomas. I think he is more mobile this year than last. Don't think he is used to having that many big bodies around him when he is down low and loses the ball easily.

Free throw shooting is going to kill us. I kept watching the stats during the game and thought I was back at the DWU game. I know they are tired of hearing it in practice but I had to throw that in my comments.

Ben looked a lot better in this game than he did in the DWU game. The close touch isn't all the way back but it was nice to see him hit a couple of jumpers. Be nice to get Mo back in a couple of games (I think I heard he was out a couple of games---could be wrong) and get more depth in the post.

Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

OK. One more time. It's Kai Williams, not Kia.

Kia is a cheap car from Korea. Kai is an outstanding basketball player and student athlete from Canada.

Pioneers in the "area" of national championships, huh. OK. Grammar check: You don't "fair" against somebody. You "fare" against somebody. Proper usage of "fair": USD's teams, in general, are "fair".

Now we have to listen to the same garbage about basketball that we listened to all football season? (At least until your football team fell into the abyss... then you disappeared, of course.) I'm really, really tired of this stuff. We don't play USD. We've got Montana next on Saturday night. You've got Dana, Truman, and Chadron. Awesome.

                        Coyote Fan,

Our D-II days are in the past but if you insist on holding us up as you’re measuring stick, please get the facts straight:

                        NCAA D-II National Championships

                        SDSU – 8

                        USD –2

Oh, and the Coyotes have spent more years in the D-II ranks then did the mighty Jackrabbits.

Best of luck with your transition.

                        Go State!

They won the game and NO it was not a pretty win, Kai was dissapointed in the way he played, we were there, saw it firsthand. Some players need to know when to pass the ball and there was very little post players doing what they should have been doing, that said, hope they work as a TEAM for the next game, they have some talented players, once they get used to playing together as a team it should work out to some very good games having 5 players in double digits has got to say something about the team this year as oppossed to last....let's see...CHEER FOR ME WE WILL NOT BE THERE ON THE 17TH....WE WILL BE IN SASKATOON.
