I gotta say, I've played and coached a little basketball in my day, granted none of it at the level SDSU is, and I haven't really heard of "saving" offensive sets or plays for later in the year. Maybe I'm naive. Repetition is perhaps the best way to learn and there is no better setting than the "real" game to "practice". I guess I'm saying that I don't buy the not giving up any sets against these teams argument. Just my opinion. I've added plays or changed sets during the year but I think thats different than what has been implied here. No excuses for me, just beat these guys and beat them badly like we should expect.

You don't understand how D-I teams scout, I take a class out here (BHSU) with the basketball coach and he was the scouting coach at Colorado and he said they have every basketball program possible on dish they dvr everything if a webcast is possible they get that on teams whose games aren't broadcast and they library it all..... I think with Montana next week Nagy wants to keep the few set plays they will be uses this year fresh for that game.

Set plays sure, but not whole offensive sets.

You're right, I don't know how elaborate the scouting is. I think I have some understanding and saving a few plays makes sense but running a basic offense that should result in relatively easy victories over lesser teams doesn't sound like a stretch to me. I guess I wonder how many teams on our future schedule are looking at us and saying "we gotta have has much possible tape on the Jackrabbits as possible". Or "the SDSU game is one of our biggest games of the year so we better be ready for them."

I just have a different opinion as it pertains to this issue than some of the other fans who frequent this board. Thats okay. I think Nagy should send these guys out there with all possible tools and let them build some confidence against lesser teams. I'm not questioning Nagy. He is the coach, I'm just a fan. I'm offering a different opinion and thats it.

Until we are a real threat to some of these teams, I say get all the practice you can running your offense. If we were at the top of the division, that is one thing, but we are working our way up.

as far as offenses and so on my high school coach didn't like set plays either he said that there is a place for them but he didn't like using them other wise.
