Probably his sources.  He won't get heat for revealing the truth, but may get heat for having to reveal his sources.  A source may not reveal future information if the source knows that he will reveal the source.  This is why newspapers and television reporters do not reveal their sources, because once the source knows that he will be exposed, the source will not provide any more information in the future.

On this site though, you have to reveal your source or you can not post about student athletes.
NorCal: I think if Blue had answered my questions, it would tell us something.  Blue has been dangling the Cadwell rumor for weeks.  One of the following was likely:  1) his sources told him not to tell and he agreed to embargo the information; or 2) his sources didn't give a rip whether he revealed the information and in that case, it was a little bit of 'I know something you don't know'.

Now, there were other possible answers to the questions, too, but those seemed to be most likely.

If the first of what I think are the two likely responses would be Blue's response -- you seem to think that would be his response -- then why would he give up his sources and risk taking such heat?  Hmmm....  Certainly it's not out of some sense of altruism for the good of the Jacks.  That takes us back to the second reason:  I know something you don't know.

Blue writes for the Collegian and I doubt he wants the reputation of being a journalist who cannot be trusted with information because, as you point out, sources are unlikely to trust him in the future.  So, I have a hard time believing he was giving up his sources and was really worrieD about taking heat.  A little melodramatic, if you ask me (a not-too-subtle attempt to put some blame on the moderators).

On this message board, the rumor/attribution rule is limited to rumors of student athletes leaving.  Blue and others have enjoyed pimping the moderators about what I think is a reasonable rule set up by filbert.

Blue's revelation -- the way it was presented -- may be nothing more than just another sideways shot at the original rule.  So, I suggest the following:  some on this board have taken time to talk about one rule which most seem to understand and support (I get private messages saying that).  Let's quit talking, directly or indirectly, about the rule...play by the rules...and enjoy talking about the Jacks.   Example:  Jacks up 4-2 against the U of MN Gophers in baseball and I'm going to turn the radio back on.

    GO JACKS!
Nope not worried about my sources as much as getting harassed by the involved athletes on facebook or in emails. Which has happened a time or two.

Why is this even news? He hasn't been practicing with the team since they were done. Look for him to go to Concordia-St. Paul next year.

        Re: Cadwell

I'm sick of people saying that it's good that he's leaving. He is a good player. So he had a terrible season. He was frustrated. He was keyed on all year and was hurt. I think people have to quit looking for a quick fix around here and start building something. You're not going to get 5 good players over night. We may get lucky and it may happen but the WORST thing that happens for us if he stays is that Cadwell comes off the bench next year as a scorer (and that's not even likely). The BENCH! Do we even know what that is??? He may not have worked out here but I think you're dumb to think that it's good that he's leaving. Again, I'm just a college student and I'm venting a little bit. But letting him go was worse for the team then keeping him.

I think it's terrible Caddy is leaving (not that I'm shocked).  He's a good player.  Remember, he set the freshman single season record for points in a season.  The players, coaches and fans were counting on him.  I hope we can retain some of these guys for four years.

I agree, it's terrible to lose a player like Cadwell. I don't think setting the freshman scoring record is any accident and this is a terrible blow to a program that's already been reeling for a couple of years. It's been beaten to death, but this might be the straw that breaks the camel's back. At some point, I'm guessing there will be some drastic changes.

On a side note, has there been a confirmed reason for Cadwell's departure?

I believe Coach Larson's dismissal was the start of changes that could/should/will occur over the next year and a half.

Nobody is letting him go and nobody showed him the door. I would rather see him stay, but if he doesn't want to be here than we are better off finding someone who wants to be here! I'm sick of players quiting on themselves and their team.

I don't tihnk there is any question the team will be better this year than they were last year, with or without Cadwell. I believe they could have a solid(not great) team in 2 years. It could just be me being optimistic though. We'll find out. Hope Cadwell sticks it out - Good luck wherever he may end up.

                  Go Jacks!

Sometimes the athletic benefits of a player can be outwieghed by their negative attitude and demeanor. One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch.

                          Re: Cadwell

I have to agree that Matt's attitude towards the end of the season was horrible. The major difference I see between the women's team and the men's team is their attitudes. The women seem like they have FUN when they play and they enjoy the people they are around. The men on the other hand seem like they are in hell all the time out there. If one of the guys makes a mistake nobody seems to pick him up, whereas when one of the women made a mistake it seemed like the four other people on the court were there to pick them up and encourage them. TEAMWORK goes along way in this sport.

                            Re: Cadwell

It's unfortunate to see Cadwell jump ship! Things are starting to turn around and there is light at the end of the tunnel in my opinion. He would have had a much better team around him next year.

I don't know the circumstances involving Matt's decision. Does anyone? The thing that bothers me is the lack of commitment that we have been seeing from players. I'm not attacking anyone or questioning their reasons but there has been a lot of this stuff over the last several years! What happened to seeing things through until the end? Why aren't they sticking it out through tough times? Is it only about winning or is the experience the biggest thing? It used to be that when the going got tough, the tough got going! Now they just transfer. Maybe that will change when we are winning again. I know that transfers are unaavoidable but we have had a ton lately!

As most of you know, I think things are already turning around. I think Nagy is the right guy for our program and am an optimist by nature. Recruiting is picking up, we have a conference next year, and we're NCAA Tournament eligible the year after that. This thing is going to turn around in hurry.

Best of luck to Matt Cadwell. I hope he finds what he is looking for.

First of all why are we releasing them from there scholarship... make them sit out a year.... second of all I can't blame Cadwell for leaving when he was recruited here Loney was the only other scholarship player still here... People make too much out of attitude... don't say Cadwell had a bad attitude there was 8 scholarship players at the end of the year on the team... The team is very young and inexperienced and its hard to be a leader when your not that experienced yourself... I hope Cadwell pulls an AJ and returns.....

Because then we have a scholarship that we cant give to someone else.
