No I wasn't there but I listened to it and I listened to Nagy's post conference and he said what I was thinking.... Its hard to be physical when the guy you are matching up against is 6 inches shorter thats a fact because the refs always look for the big guy picking on the little guy. And yes I know what the purpose of a zone is its to help with mismatches and to sag. the problem with the zone was the fact that the guards didn't shoot or drive they just passed. The problem I had though was that the rebound margin wasn't near as high as it should of been and it seemed that the forwards were settling for too many jump shots and yes I understand that is part of there game but you are blowing your mismatch when you settle for those jumpers.

I'd say our lack of inside play was largely due to the refs although the zone did attribute. As it has been stated this game was very tightly called. To the point where the refs thought people were there to watch them instead of the basketball game. Late first-half / early second-half, we worked the ball in a few times and 3 times out of maybe 5 trips down the floor a charge foul was called. Between the two teams I think I heard "player-control foul" (aka offensive foul) from the PA announce over 10 times last night. Cadsev said it best, there was no flow to this game whatsoever and that was in large part because of the refs. The only other reason I would say was our lack of intensity and agressivness in the 2nd half but that all showed up after the refs made it clear how they were going to call the game.

        .

The zone had a lot to do with it but it also didn't seem like a point of emphasis for the Jacks. Again, being an exhibition it may very well not been a big part of the plan. If the guards can dribble penetrate more than that will free things up. Last night there was mainly a lot of passing around the perimeter. It was the first game so everyone was tentative. Hitting a better percentage from 3-points wouldn't hurt anything either.

It's been mentioned but isn't an excuse, the refs were brutal!!!! The bad news is that it was a Summitt League crew. As long as they suck both ways it evens out. It was not a physical game but by the foul count it looked like a few guys went to the hospital.

        GO JACKS!

The refs were aweful. Calling 49 fouls was one short from my guess of 50 for the game. I was cheering the refs on just to get me to the 50+ fouls.

Our free throw shooting was horrible. We will lose a lot of games if we continue to shoot like that at the line.

Clint and Kai played good games. Kai didn't have the greatest second half but the zone did mess with his game.

Ben was physical tonight. Thought a few more elbow calls could have been made but glad they weren't. Score more of his points in the second half.

Berte was nervous. He wanted to do so much that it was causing turnovers. Give him a couple more games to calm down and he will be fine.

Loney didn't get as much playing time as I was expecting.

Garrett had an off night shooting. When it was him, Clint, and Kai on the perimeter, had 3 good shooters (normally). We will see in the next game if that is true.

Thomas and Anthony got some playing time but didn't get to see too much of their offense.

Palarca was a nice surprise. Good hustle on defense. Made some steals on DWU's inbound passes. If his outside shot comes along, will be fun to watch him.
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

DWU's arguably best player, Preston Broughton, didn't even play last night. And if Fitzgerald hits one of all of those threes he threw up, DWU might have won.

State should've crushed DWU last night, no matter whether it is exhibition or not. Jackmd is right to be upset with last night's performance.

You cant blame the refs. We've been doing that for four years now. I am with Jack. I like our team on paper and there is no legit excuses that can be made.

I agree with Jackmd....but at the begining of the game last night, we came out with intensity and got a good lead. After that we just started rotating guys in every 3 minutes. There was no flow to the game at all! I really wouldn't look into this game too much. Let's give them one more game against Mary and see how they do. On paper they were a much better team and for someone who went to the game like I did, WE WERE A MUCH BETTER TEAM (Like we should be). It kind of reminded me of a scrimmage during practice or midnight madness with how it went. Just give it one more game.

Should we absolutely kill a team like this? Of course. But we didn't need to last night. It was just a scrimmage.

I was at the game but since I work on a temporary basis and the game started at 8:30pm I left early so I could wake up at 5:00am to drive 63 miles to my work assignment. Had very little time to think about this game except we have talent, but very raw talent. Also Midnight madness and one exhibition game and 10 days of practice are not enough to be able to even to be near the level of play of last year that ended 6 wins and 24 losses for the men and the women with a quarterfinals appearence in the WNIT. Personally, I dont miss double hitters and last night was more than enough for me.

Both men and women need time to develope, and no doubt the first game that does count will be better than last evening. Its got to be so and our coaches know what they need to do, so too early to comment about much of anything. In terms of the men, its the most talented since the transitition started, and for the women, the hot shot from Salem needs to learn how to be a team player and forget about how she was a one person team in high school. Those days are gone.

Lets give our student athletes time to get back in rythmn and develope their great talent.
Our shot at the Big Dance does not start until next year so I am going to just enjoy this season good or bad in terms of wins.

There really is not much more to say except that I need a program to identify all the members of both rosters.

I'm going to have to really question this statement. I watched the women's game it in its entirety and I never thought this once. Kristin Rotert played like a freshman with a bit of a "deer in the headlights" type of look. She didn't shoot great, I'll give you that but I didn't think she was out looking for her own shot all night. Maybe I'm looking too much into your post but I just felt it was off base enough to comment. Just watching Rotert show her athleticism last night was impressive enough for me. In my eyes, she's got great potential to do big things here at SDSU.

Rotert reminds me a lot of Ketty they were players that were on great high school teams but were always the go to players.... I wouldn't say by any means that she is a ball hog or a show off but she is a player that can shoot.... I think one of the big thing for college players is to understand that the teams that they are on now have players that are just as good as them..... I think the freshman will learn just like the ones did last year....

May be a little harsh, but she at times she did not seem to know that there are four others on the court wearing white uniforms, thats what I saw and she is not the sharpshooter that many may think. Iam just saying she has a lot to learn and I am sure she will. I thinking along the line of what Johnny Johnson the legendry SDSU equipment manager who has been pushing up daisies for a long time often told new freshman: "You may think you are some kind of high school star, but you are nothing here." Being Kristi is a lady, we might have to be a little more gentle, but I think it applies. And yes Kristi did not shoot great, and often took shoots when she would have been smarter to pass. She will learn.

I'm sure if AJ has a problem with the way any of his players is performing/contributing, he will let them know.

Rotert was a great shooter during her junior year. However, she developed a "hitch" in her shot. Never been the same since.

Yup and I should have left this reference to Rotert out in my orignal post. It was not helpful to anyone and it lead to thread drift, my bad. Say no more, Nidaros.
