    Re: Dakota Wesleyan Game Thread

Callahan missed. Pileup on the floor for the rebound and Jacks get it. Sargent comes out with it and is fouled.

Not to mention the absolutely HORRENDOUS free throw shooting...if we shot only 60% we'd be up by 20 almost.

Overall I think it is hard to judge a game against a team like DWU.... The problems I saw though were we were sub 50% from the charity stripe thats pathetic no other way to describe it. Too many offensive fouls I understand that they were playing a NAIA team and it seems that the refs were officiating was at the NAIA level but you shouldn't be in a situation to foul when you are playing against 6-4 post.... DWU is a great NAIA team but they were missing Broughton (anybody know what the deal was there?) and they were still a NAIA team The zone killed SDSU the shooters needed to shoot and other then Sergent nobody did.... Its a pre-season game though and there were bright spots Kai played well Sergent showed he is for real..... Some of the guys looked trigger shy at times.

                            Nagy Post-game:

I said I wasn't going to be result-oriented this game. If I was, we would have played zone. We've been working on man-to-man stuff...most teams we'll see will play man-to-man.

                            Sargent...real pleased with him.

We have to be more physical inside, should've outrebounded these guys more...didn't run plays...good for our kids in a tight game, didn't want to lose, kids benefitted from this.

Palarca: He'll cause some problems (his speed). Some turnovers he forced (due to his pressure) that you didn't see

Williams: Zone neutralizes a lot of size and athletic ability. WE did that last year when overmatched, we played zone. Teams undersigned have advantage cuz can neutralize with zone.

Beran and Berte: Ben had sore ankle. Berte very nervous--he had happy feet and nervous hands. Had a knee injury and will have MRI tomorrow...concerned they'll find something in there and may need surgery and we may miss him for a month.

NEXT: U OF MARY. Have to get better on our man-to-man defense. We have to get prepared for zone because we'll see that with Mary.

Free throws: Nagy "I don't worry about that too much right now. We had jitters tonight. We are a good shooting team...shown that in practice so not going to worry about that (in the first game).

Redshirting: Saw McKenzie didn't play tonight...he's playing great in practice...but thinking about redshirting him. Before done here, will probably have one or two others (redshirts).

Who might have to have surgery on his ankle? I missed it....caught the tail end coming out of little boys room.

Edit: nevermind, I see in JackJD's post it's Berte's knee.

                                Re: Dakota Wesleyan Game Thread

Umm, squeak out an exhibition win over an NAIA team and its okay. I don't like that attitude. I don't care what kind of defense you're playing or who is in the rotation you don't let a team with players that shouldn't be carrying your athletic supporter around take you down to the wire.

I'm thinking a 30 point win and we barely pull it off, that makes me wonder. I'm just saying you gotta ask for more than what we got tonight. I don't need reminders about the status of the game or excuses about the results, I just expected a blowout plain and simple. Clearly that wasn't the case. I'll say it again, I didn't have great expectations for this team and tonight they didn't meet even those. I'm concerned.

Let me rephrase a bit, I have my concerns about this team and tonight did nothing to alleviate any of them. I understand the ability of each individual player we have and I understand that there are some players returning who have some on court DI experience. However, everyone else needs to understand that none of that necessarily translates to a great or even a competitive TEAM on the court.

If someone thinks its alright for THE DI program in the state to nearly lose to an NAIA DII program, then I don't see things the way that person does. Can we recover from this miserable showing? Absolutely. Will we? Time will tell.
