Re: Dakota Wesleyan Game Thread
Kind of related. I saw over the weekend #5 Michigan state was beat by Grandvalley State in an exhibition game. Tom Izzo is a very good coach and it sounds like he deployed the same strategy as Nagy. Just let the players play with no set plays and his decision backfired even worse. I know everyone has been very critical on the team after the near loss, but remember it is just exhibition and we are a very very very young team.

It's not like SDSU is calling NDSU for their game tape. Sorry but that's not happening. This isn't HS hoops. Oh and by the way I can't think of any DI college basketball team that doesn't prepare a scout for each game. Typically each assistant coach rotates the scout for the opposing team on a given game. Just look at which assistant coach is standing up barking instructions and you can easily figure out who has the scout for that game. Some schools do assign that to one coach but typically it is rotated. Nebraska played Nebraska Wesleyan the other day....they call USF a few weeks ago for a tape...conference rule prohibited USF from sending a tape. Don't think for a second that DWU won't get calls for the game tape from the other night.

Some teams don't scout at all and pummel a team, so I don't know it sounds like a sorry excuse to me. DWU came to play and to win, I think they deserve some credit. I once saw Pierre struggle with Pine Ridge in a jamboree a few years back, that's AA vs. A. The biggest thing I can think of is leadership, SDSU is still young as far as academic class goes and DWU has a lot of poised players. This is the first time I commented on this so sorry if it seems late but I'm not trying to carry the thread on, just give my two cents. and Joeboe I will kick your butt if you try to nit pick with me. (not really)

Leadership should not be an issue with this team. Experience will be though. Our frosh and sophs excluding Kai could beat DWU on any regular night. And not to "nit pick" here, but comparing AA HS basketball with A HS basketball doesn't really compare to SDSU and DWU. SDSU is the better team. That's a fact. Does DWU deserve some credit? Probably a little. But you play this game seriously and SDSU beats them by 35. Like Cadsev said...lets' move on and quit worrying about it. The game was 5 days ago.

Win by a large margin and satisfy your alumni and booster base.
2. Run absolutely nothing, give the opponent nothing to send out because it's basically an organized scrimmage. Work all your athletes into the fold to see where they currently stand after two weeks of practice. Work on your defense and put your team into a situation they can learn from to help them down the road.
People, this was an exhibition game. When it counts the team will respond and the coaches will have them prepared. The game was five days ago, let it go. Enough already.

See Cadsev's thread about the closed scrimmage with UND yesterday. That's where the real work gets done.
