        Cadsev,
If you are still around, do you have any thoughts about Mitchell Christian standout Jill Young. Is she D1 material or does she excel because of the competition she plays. If so, do you have any ideas of where she might go, who might be looking at her, etc. She puts up unbelievable numbers...

I've heard good things about her but have not seen her play. Many question her foot speed but no one questions her ability to score. I know she has aspirations of playing at a high major school but given the recent success of SDSU's womens program against high major teams it may benefit her to stay close to home and play in state. Rumor is that SDSU is interested in her but I have no idea how that translates into an official offer or if one has been extended.

Elijiah did visit SDSU in the fall but has not received an offer from SDSU.  He has been hampered this year by injuries and just recently has been back on the court.  He has also made visits to area DII schools.  It will be interesting to see if he's able to generate an offer from SDSU as he's more of a 2 guard than a pt. guard.

The point guard position seems to be a priority for SDSU.  I'm interesting in seeing if they go the juco route to get some instant help and then possibly offer and maybe sign Miller Junior Adam Peterka from the 2007 class.  Peterka has also been hobbled by a severe ankle sprain that occurred before the teams first game.  He isn't at 100% yet, but continues to play well even if he's not totally healthy.  SDSU has not offered Peterka yet and time will tell if they do offer him.  If they are able to land a senior from the 2006 class at the point guard position then Peterka most likely would not get an offer.  If they go the juco route I'm sure he'll be considered for an offer.

One senior, out of Iowa who is playing outstanding and generating some interest is Hull Western Christian guard Michael Eekhoff.  He's athletic, quick and a slashing guard who has the ability to play at SDSU.  He's under the radar right now but many have commented that he's talented enough to play in the Missouri Valley.  As of today's he is available and SDSU may be looking strongly at him.  One drawback is that he doesn't shoot very well from the outside, but is explosive to the rim and is quick.  Defensively he lacks the ability to defend at times as well.

SDSU has offered Louie Krogman (happened last August) and will push hard the next two years to get a verbal and sign him down the road.  Krogman has not accepted the offer but may decide, when he's ready to attend SDSU.

Sam Williard, Luke Enos, Derek DeZeeuw and Nathan Truex round out the remainder of the 2007 SD kids still on the radar.  The class is limited to the amount of athletes who could play at the DI level.  Someone may emerge the next two years, but currently these are the kids that are drawing the most interest.

                  Re: 2007 Recruits

To go along with your comment about Michael Eekhoff or any point guard, as long as he can take it to the hoop and finish the drive or kick it out to the shooters who cares if he can shoot the outside shot. It seems like a lot of the teams we have played this year have a point who drives and draws fouls or hits the three point shooters. Hope that didn't come out as a slam against your post Cadsev because I agree with you statement. The defense part would have to improve.

The story about Krogman was nice in the Argus this weekend. He's six foot now so maybe he will gain a couple more inches by his senior year.

                    Re: 2007 Recruits

It's always nice to have a pt. guard who has the threat of shooting the three. Otherwise teams can sag a little and not respect the three point shot taking away the drive to the hoop to set up others on the team. A good case in point would be NSU a few years ago when SDSU was still DII. NSU had a pt guard who could not shoot a lick. It was absolutely painful to watch as SDSU didn't respect his outside shot at all and basically didn't guard him. I can't remember the name of the guard but I do remember that SDSU didn't allow him to drive at all and basically dared him to shoot from the perimeter.

I'm not saying that Eekhoff has that poor of a shoot, but he does lack confidence to score from the outside. To say that he is a slasher is an understatement and he does an outstanding job of setting up his teammates. Still if he could develop an outside shot and learn to play as hard on the defensive end as he does on the offensive end then he would be a steal for SDSU.

Lots of talk about SDSU needing a point guard, what about the RS Cam Hornby.

We will find out next year about Cam Hornby, but based on a post made by JACKGUYII about attending a booster meeting that included Coach Nagy, Coach said Cam was doing everything they had asked of him and they feel he will be the point guard next year. A back up or two would not hurt though.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not giving up on Cam either. I actually went to his web site when he was a high school kid and checked his videos out. The kid was a scorer up there too.

I don't remember the NSU point guard who couldn't shoot either but I saw him play up in Aberdeen against State and it was so obvious State didn't respect his shooting at all. And, he proved them right. The only thing he was able to do was handle the ball--he didn't drive the lane just passed the ball. I guess for a point, I would like a mid-range shooter and not really a three-point shooter.

                            Story on Elijiah Miller:

Galva-Holstein point guard Elijah Miller started his junior season off the wrong way. Early in the year, this standout suffered an injury that sidelined him for an extended amount of time.

Elijah Miller is one of the quickest point guards in Iowa.
"I broke my wrist in the second half of the first game so I have missed most of the season. I am just starting to get back into the flow of things. It isn't 100% yet but it's close."

Being injured for that long has made it tough for Miller to bounce back into action.

"It has been hard getting back into shape. I am just trying to get all the back into it and should be ready for that by tournament time."

Miller hasn't yet been pleased with the way he has been playing.

"I think I've been playing decent but I haven't really been making my shots. I am still trying to get back into rhythm."

Before the playoffs start, Miller and his teammates will face a solid Newell-Fonda team.

"They are a big, strong team. We will have to play well to beat them so hopefully we come to play."

Miller has also been keeping an eye on basketball recruiting.

"I've been getting a lot of letters and a couple of schools have called. South Dakota State has called, Lehigh, and North Dakota has called too."

More quotes from Galva-Holstein point guard Elijah Miller on:

                              Favorites in Recruiting: "Not yet."

Recruiting Visits: "We went to South Dakota State in December. It looked pretty nice and we got to see a game."

District Opponents: "Our district has some teams in our conference. In the first round we have to play a team we just lost to in double overtime so it won't be easy."

From the Forum in Grand Forks:

Noah Dahlman, a 6-foot-6 junior for the Braham boys basketball team that won its third straight Minnesota Class 2A championship last week, said he has his choices for college narrowed down to North Dakota State, Furman and Army. Dahlman averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds. ...

His older brother Isiah is playing at Michigan State next year. NDSU has Josh Vaughn former point guard from Braham already. Noah is one hell of a good ball player. I am certain we contacted him, I wonder if we even had a shot. If NDSU lands this guy I think he alone makes 2007 a successful recruiting year for them.
