Re: SDSU forward playing against the world (Kai)

The box score is up now, the leading point scorer was Devoe Joseph he had 33 points, I am trying to get through on the phone right now, Kai should be in his room I think by 8..00pm Serbia time, which is 12.00noon our time.

It sounds as if Mr. Joseph might be quite a player as well. It looks as if he is a high school senior (just graduated) is that correct? Has he heard how nice SD is in the winter during Basketball season.

He is quite the player , and I am sure Kai will be having a quiet word with him, his mom and his family were in Texas with us last year, very nice family, also Canada Basketball took his younger brother on the team, he is just 16 I think, probably another good player coming up.

Well he said because they had a few days turnaround before they practised they were well rested up, the hotel looks really nice, he says it is very clean, Anyway just spoke to him via MSN and he is feeling good, he said the whole team played very well, like a real team should, no showboats this year.

Also he was pretty excited about getting some personalised shoes, they will be sent to him at home I guess, gotta have the shoes you know

Is he a High School senior? Does he have college plans?

DEVOE GRADUATED IN JUNE. I think he will have had some offers but has not made any commitments as yet, his brother will go into Grade 11 next year, but in Ontario where they are from , for some reason be it academic or not some of the kids go to Grade 13 or a Prep School , then they look at going to University or college from there.

Devoe it appears has plenty of college interest. Rivals shows him as the #22 best shooting guard in the class of 2008. He is 6'2.

Canada are down 26 points 5 mins to go in the 3rd quarter, have hardly seen Kai's name at all in this game......THE USA team killed their opponents yesterday.

Well from the box score looks like no one on the Canada Team played well.
Kai played 14 mins and only shot the ball 5 times!!!he only had 4 points !!

Canada falls to 1-1 after loss to Turkey

                              Jul 13th, 2007

(Novi Sad, Serbia) Canada could not keep the momentum going from an opening day victory and lost a lopsided decision to Turkey by a score of 81-58. The excellent shooting that Canada opened up the tournament with did not continue as the team struggled to score points and shot 26.2% from the field. The U19 men’s team from Canada was led by Boris Bakovic (Toronto, ON) with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Cory Joseph (Pickering, ON) scored 8 points. Turkey was led by Oguen Sevinc and Can Ozecan with 15 points each, and Mesut Kadir Cipa who added 14 points.

Turkey jumped out to a quick lead with strong shooting, while forcing Canada into tough shots of their own. They closed out the quarter strong and led 23-11 at the end of the first. The second quarter was very similar to the first, with the Canadian squad unable to chip away at the lead. The Turkish squad took a 44-26 lead into halftime.

Canada came out to begin the second half executing their game plan. They held Turkey to their lowest scoring quarter of the game scoring 15 points. However, they were unable to gain any ground and went into the final frame still trailing by 18.

Turkey once again shot the ball very consistently in the final quarter and would not allow the Canadian team back into the game. They held a substantial lead for the majority of the game, and cruised to an 81-58 victory.

Excellent passing was shown by the powerful Turkish squad as 19 of their 29 field goals were completed with an assist. Turkey shot 46.7% from the floor including 11 three-pointers, five of which came from Oezcan.

Canada’s junior men’s national team will play their next game against Australia on July 14 at 1:30 pm local time. In Australia’s first game of the tournament, they defeated Turkey by a score of 77-65. The next game will be the final game of the preliminary round at the FIBA U19 World Championships, then all teams will have July 15 as a day of rest. The classification and medal round will resume on July 16, and continue on until July 22 when the medal games will take place.

                              onwards and upwards hopefully
