AJ’s success speaks for itself. I can’t comment on Nagy. TJ came from being a top assistant at a nationally ranked Power 5 ( now 4 ) school. Hendo was TJ’s pick as his top assistant and he told me repeatedly that Eric was a great coach and will be the head coach of a Power 4 school someday. I find it interesting that the main reason Drake selected Hendo was because he’s shown the ability to take a well performing program and maintaining it. Drake is very unusual in the sense they’ve had success over a reasonable period of time. And whomever coaches there has been the benefactor of its success by moving on to higher paying programs. I would argue Hendo will have a lot of pressure on him just trying to maintain. That’s a tough situation. Devries had his son, McCollum brought his roster from NCAA D2 Northwest Missouri. It makes sense that your top guys will wear a different shade of blue next year, much like what Rogers did to your program in football. It sucks, but that’s todays world.

Your AD is as good as they come, especially at our level. I’d trust his pick and process and grab some popcorn to watch what comes next.

It’s not dumb … it is a reasonable and plausible approach to the selection process.

In your mind what makes Klink a good candidate? The fact that he’s been around forever? The fact that he’s been at SDSU forever?

LOL at myself. Man, time goes fast. I remembered Joe on staff, and I thought to myself, "he preceeded Hendo, he was probably on Otz's staff, but I remembered Otz's staff, and knew he wasn;'t on it...and I thought it must have been Hendo's. LOL. Can't believe it was that long ago...over 9 years ago.

          So, yes... I'm an idiot.

I don’t have a dog in the fight other than I want SDSU basketball to be successful.

Saying our next head coach has to have been a head coach is narrow minded and dumb. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Hopefully all head coaches don’t die tonight. We could never have one again.

If you talk to our former players, most of them say Klink is the best coach they’ve had. That alone speaks volumes.

First off, congrats to Coach Henderson. To me, it's a lateral move, at best, but if Hendo thought it was time to go, best of luck to him.
As far as a successor, I, too, am in Coach Petersen's camp. There are some other good, potential replacements, though. JR Blount, an assistant from Iowa State, is highly regarded. Joe Krabbenhoft of Wisconsin, too. I hadn't thought of alum Clint Sargent of Wright State, who was mentioned earlier in this thread, but he's an intriguing possibility. And, of course, Coach Klink has earned consideration. I'm sure AD Justin Sell was prepared for this moment and has a list of good prospects and their contact information.

Disagree on the “lateral at best” comment. While the MVC is a one bid league it is still regarded as a top 10 conference ahead of WCC, American and Big West and just behind CUSA and MWC. FYI the Summit is 23rd on that list.

Last 3 coaches at Drake are coaching in the Big Ten. Even TJ had to stop at UNLV before getting to a P4 conference team.

Drake is NOT in the same conversation as UNLV. clearly they are not what they used to be, but the way things are going, who is? even UNC did not deserve to be in the tournament this year. still if you say UNLV is a has been, Drake is a never was

if Hendo wanted to go and / or he sees it as a good opportunity, good for him. thanks for a very good 6 years and thank you for being such an incredibly positive person and fantastic representative for the Jacks!!! I wish him the best!! but Drake is nothing special.

it will be interesting to see what staff stays and what staff, if any goes with Hendo

i dont want to speculate on the players. I have some feelings, but zero facts.

one thing, if things keep going the way they are, one day it is going to get pretty hard for all of our former coaches to avoid playing us. it would be great if they would show some appreciation for the Jacks giving them a start and help us fill up our home schedule and bring their team into Frost arena

Reading comprehension is certainly not a forte.

Not comparing Drake and UNLV … I’m making the point that TJ had to leave SDSU for UNLV to get to a P4 conference.

Drake may be nothing special but its conference is way closer to the P4 than the Summit. Its coaches have seen good success at Drake and beyond. Drake is NOT a lateral move, it is a step up and that is almost an unquestionable fact. If Drake is “nothing” then where does that leave SDSU?

we did make a change from having all of our coaches on one year contracts didnt we? I think we should make that part of the contract. if they leave before the contract is up, they are required to bring their new team to Frost for a couple years

I think that USD blew that regent's policy out of the water a few years ago.
