my guess is they think they can stop Doug one on one. so we will need him FIRST to NOT pick up any stupid fouls and stay on the floor!! second we need him to be on his game and hopefully drawing fouls. somebody not named wilson or schierman will need to hit a few big shots and we have a handful of guys have more than proven they can do that, like Zeke hitting 5 3s against wsu

i do like our chances a lot, but as usual we are at a huge size disadvantage.

I think the Jacks got a good draw in providence. They have been a team that has won multiple close games and seem like a paper tiger who caught all the breaks. Plus there is not a kid on Providence team who knows where South Dakota is, much less anything about the Jacks.

5 seed Iowa on the other hand their kids and the Jacks kids all know each other for the most part.

Win some games and get NDSU that $$$

I have watched Providence many times. Providence is a very good team with lots of experience with one of the best, though underrated, coaches in Ed Cooley. He is also one of the nicest and classiest men in the profession. They have beaten 7 of the 8 2022 NCAA tournament teams they faced including Wisconsin, Texas Tech, Vermont, Creighton, Seton Hall and Uconn. They lost twice to Villanova- once by 2 pts and once by 5 pts. That being said, they are very erratic as evidenced by their Big East semi-final blowout loss to Creighton by 27 pts after beating them two weeks earlier by 21. The Jacks got no favors from the selection committee - undervalued at #13, a long trip to a site very close to the Providence fanbase, with the earliest game on the earliest day possible.

I agree with you Pirate! i would not say we were given any favors!! but despite that, this is the best or second best draw the jacks have ever had in this thing!

but at this time last year i said ORU could make a run as long as they did not play anyone with too much size. maybe i am just being dumb and i could probably go look at those rosters but i do not think any of the 3 teams they played last year had the size that providence has

and us playing in the other teams backyard or at least their neighborhood has become a given. we played maryland on the west coast. otherwise, always close to the other team. the day and time thing does kind of suck but it is the same day and time for the friars- i guess their fans maybe dont need as much time to make travel arrangements as we do, but i still think the day and time thing is basically a wash

I haven't been back today, but yesterday some of their fans were pretty comical yesterday. They seem to be expecting a cakewalk. Their defense sucks. They are small. They haven't played anybody.

The Vegas line is still -2. Those tend to be pretty close more often than not.

I'm not expecting a win, but I expect us to be competitive with a chance to win. We will need to shoot well from 3 and Luke Appel playing is also going to be crucial for our depth down low.

The Friars are taller than the Jacks, but pretty much anybody they'll run into in the NCAA will be bigger. Their starters go 6'10" 6'7" 6'6" 6'4" 5'10" and they had 6'8" 6'8" 6'3" coming off the bench--looks like they basically go eight deep. NDSU's starters were 6'11" 6'10" 6'6" 6'5" 6'3".

6'10" Watson and sixth man 6'8" Horchler are definitely more solidly built than NDSU's lanky bigs.

Pretty balanced offense, top scorer is Watson at 13.8, four players average double figures with sixth man 6'8" Horchler at 9.8 ppg.

Hendo is close with Greg McDermott of Creighton, and I imagine he'll get a more detailed than usual scouting report from his old coach prior to the game.

That was my thought as well. The only position they have a distinct advantage is in the post. But their post also has to guard our super quick 6'7" guy. Arians was incredibly effective guarding 6'-11" Nelson from NDSU.
