Jenkins was fun. Caleb Grill would’ve been a great addition. I watched a few games and Grill was always hustling and working. Would’ve been fun to watch Grill and Freidel play together but like stated before probably would’ve only had one and not the other.
It's just an old Army trick I learned in the Navy.

Jenkins literally hit a half courter at the buzzer to beat NDSU in Fargo. That was gold

It’s almost laughable that TJ is going to be a big12 coach. Can you imagine bill self preparing for TJs defensive philosophy. Good luck.

Hendo is a much better coach than TJ, can’t believe Iowas State is actually going to hire him. What a disastrous turn for the program since Hoiberg left

Wow he got it. Talk about Otzelberger falling into better jobs after failing. He will get worked in the big12.

It is more about recruiting than coaching. TJ can always surround himself with good coaches ... being an elite recruiter is probably more important.

                Bingo!

We will see how Hendo is as a recruiter after a couple years.

well as i recall, hendo is largely/ main reason that noah basically made the decision to come to state, after his release from wright state, without actually even talking to any other school. also believe he is responsible for wingett, appel, and easley

also as i understand it he had FAR more than an insignificant role in recruiting under tj, so he probably gets at least SOME credit for that. and also as i understand i believe that there were conversations with wilson about sticking to his decision to come after tj departure. that conversation was definitely handled by hendo

in case you need more evidence he is responsible for the guys coming in. prospects/ recruits are always some amount of gamble. plenty of them do not live up to the hype. but if mayo lives up to it at all he will be very good

i am BEYOND prepared to give the guy benefit of doubt. he is going to do just fine as a recruiter. and then he can actually do well without a bunch of TOP NOTCH recruits because he can actually coach! i could actually give examples. but my posts are long enough as it is)) so i hope that is not necessary

finally it is pretty obvious that the players love him. look at the energy, the excitement about his players, the positivity. and parents will love everything about him. i wil guess in 2-5 years BOTH schools that hired tj will be thinking why didnt we leave him at sdsu and hire his assistant. hopefully we can keep him!! but my gut says that him and his family truly love where they are at and it will take something really special to get him to leave

I was very surprised to hear about Otz leaving UNLV for Iowa State. Not that it isn't a good opportunity for him, but bc his 2 years at UNLV have been a bit underwhelming.

I'm not an Otz-basher, at all. (I know some are, and that's fine, it's your opinion) He basically had to rebuild UNLV from the ground up, Most of their team left when the previous Coach was let go.

So it wasn't a 'walk right into something good' situation.

AND, he got some stellar recruits coming to UNLV for next year. Now, will those guys bolt to Iowa State with him? I bet some will.

Otz is known, and made his name, as a great recruiter at Iowa State. If he can recruit guys there, he'll be fine.

I do feel bad for both David Jenkins and Caleb Grill, both who followed him there. Jenkins right away, and Caleb ironically at Iowa St. first.

I'm thankful we have Coach Hendo. And I like the roster of our team. Wonder what will happen next at UNLV?

I do not ... I understand following a coach like both did but you need to make those decisions in context of everything involved. Both broke commitments to other schools. Both left teammates, universities and friends. Yes, to follow a coach but much like TJ leaving UNLV and a university, coaches and athletes - it’s a business. Both would have been Summit league all-conference players. The harsh reality is about to set in.

This does not surprise me. TJ spent the majority of his collegiate coaching career at ISU. Spent it under three different coaches. His wife is an ISU alum. He’s got connections and I suspect he believes he knows what to do to win there.

I tend to agree. They made their beds.

Especially Jenkins ... he spent significant time at SDSU theoretically formed a lot of relationships and bolted to greener pastures pretty quickly.

I’m sure he felt that he “under-committed” due to TJ but what did leaving for UNLV really do for him? Is he any closer to the NBA? Any closer to the NCAA?

We will probably never know the answers. I wish the best for DJJ.
