ORU has all the tools a midmajor needs to win a game in the tournament. They have a guard in Abmas that can shoot it from anywhere and take over a game scoring as well as being a great assist getter too. A big in obaner who doesn’t have great size but is strong enough to bang down low if he needs to. Then the biggest thing is the 3 pt shot. They showed tonight they can get destroyed on the boards but it didn’t matter because they made 14 3s. It seems like everyone is long and fairly athletic and all 5 on the floor can knock down 3s. I fully expect them to get by NDSU tomorrow night and if they get a decent draw wouldn’t surprise me if they get hot and upset a high seed.

This is my big beef with Richman's system, he wins the SLT tourney and is a 15 or 16 seed every time, no clue why he doesn't put any effort into getting a 12 or 13 seed where you have a chance to win a game. He always stresses the system and the SLT is all that matters
When SDSU goes to the tourney, I want them to have a shot to win and that means getting wins from November to March. NDSU seems to have forgotten that under Richman.
Hope ORU kicks their ass tomorrow.

AS UND fan on our web site were already talking about next year and see how much we can improve but if top teams keep most of their talent for next year because of covid it is going to be hard next year for all the teams. Also number of the teams in Summit this year were going to return large group of players and then add in if they keep there seniors there are going to be number of teams that are going to be very good unless injuries bite into their rosters. If you look at top 5 or 6 teams in the conference pretty much beat up on each other in the conference season with most of them beating one another this season. I also think being top team in conference durning the season is no guarantee of winning the SLT it all comes down who comes in is hot at tourney time and has few bounces go your way in the tournament. Also you need to have full roster and no injuries especially in last third of the season because there is very little difference in teams in Summit conference especially when the players are playing full out like they are in SLT. You guys had very good team again this year but loosing Friedel and having couple of injuries just changes team enough for somebody to beat you. The Summit conference is changing in basketball teams are becoming more competitive from top to bottom days of couple teams dominating the conference is over i believe.

my gosh!!!!! i dont even know where to begin. TIRED my asssssssss!!! yes BS was tired at the end of game, i believe it but it had NOTHING to do with how many minutes he played last week. it was becasue he had to play a bunch of maxed out minutes in todays game bc we have nobody left on the bench. i have said before, if you want to have a discussion about conditioning and off season workouts and preparation, maybe i can buy that. i do NOT know what is true i do not have evidence that we are at a disadvantage in this area compared to our competition!! but if you think we are tired then just get to the level of condidion where that discussion is NEVER possible.
i have known players who averaged over 35 minutes a game and played deep into post season every year and dominated every year in post season. TO YOUR POINT, pretty sure Abmas led the league in minutes played.he seemed to play just fine today.
for years as a coach i told my players do NOT tell me that you cannot prove that you deserve to play bc you do not get enough minutes in the game. EVERY day in practice is your chance to prove it. sure there is a comfort level with more minutes but you can tell in practice if someone is ready or not. mfum and fiegen clearly are NOT. and we had very few games where they could have had sustained minutes. i cannot go into all this bc i rally do not want to write a book today and i think everyone has explained it well enough. not a single thing hendo can do about NF, except the absolutely exceptional job he is already doing!!!!! could not be more proud of the way he has handled this!!!! when he goes into some kids living room and tells his parents that he cares first and foremost about thier son as a person, the way he has handled the NF situation is all the proof anyone will ever need!!!! you say this person and that person is the dude, well hendo is the mother F ing DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the whole argument about the girls is meaningless. totally different situations. it is many many many times easier to become develop a great WBB program. again not going to lay this all out for you but for one just look at the teams the girls can schedule to come INTO frost!! you think it does not help recruiting in an amazaing way to tell girls that they will play on their home floor in against notre dame and oregon and oklahoma and............................... they guys have to play home games against wayne f ing state
it is much easier for the girls to have 12 players who have the ability to contribute at the D! level and yet AJ still has players EVERY year at end of bench who play very small minutes. and even AJ and the girls could not overcome the loss of CPOY talent and starting talent. the depth that they developed this year when they had to play bigger role in SLT could not get it done. so lets get over this BS argument
2year ago hendo not head coach. i actuall do agree with you that otz did not develop depth that year. but i believe bc he knew not coming back after daum gone. but that is speculative and not really worth getting into here. but krueger was a kid who DID have talent to play and did not get enough opportunity. but Daum did not only struggle in game against WIU in tourney. he struggled the ENTIRE year!!!!!!! he shot almost 45% from 3 for first 3 years. senior year he shoots 29%. two previous year he had some monster games in the 40s with 6+ 3s. senior year not a single 40pt effort. any way i could go on but Daum was hurt they played a team in consecutive games to end season begin SLT and WIU had the players and the plan to make life difficult for that team and with daum not daum the others could not get it done.
any way, so 3 year ago we have best player in history of our school playing at about 70% and had to have surgery after season and did not participate in pre draft work and barely played in summer league bc was not recovered
last year we have CPOY of year O. U. T. understand???????? how did that work for the apparently breathing reincarnation of john wooden and the girls this year???? not too damn good. they played their butts off but could not get it done. and big tip of cap to omaha for playing incredibly well !!!! probably best game they have played in MANY!!!!! years but they did it
this year we have first team pre season all conference. during season top ten in nation in made 3s and 3% need to opt out to attend to his mental health. wingett goes down. and DW maybe still not totally over foot issue but definitely has a back problem that is so bad that he did not practice the week before SLT. he still played his butt off in both games. do you remember larry bird at end of career when he could not sit on bench when out of game?? he was still larry bird and still had the fire and played with all he had but he could not play like larry bird night in and night out
what do you want dude?? we NEVER had the team this year that we thought we would have. somebody was hurt all year. ended the year with 7 healthy D1 players. still won the conference despite NOT being the most talented team. ORU is easily the deepest and most talented team in the conference and i still thought our guys had a great chance to win tonight. and they did. the mistakes they made tonight they have made all year. they are not a perfect team. NEVER WERE and i have said that REPEATEDLY on this forum this year! but they play together and they do a lot of little things correctly and more often than not playing as a team overcomes their deficit in talent. i not even sure that the team we had to end year is in top 4 most talented in this conference. UMKC puts some dudes on the floor. coach nagy preached it all the time TEAM beats TALENT every day adn this team has proved that many times. but they played an incredibly talented team tonight who is playing very very well and they took them to the wire.
you got me so worked up with this we are tired and hendo does not do a good job and we should have a team with 10 guys who can come in at any time and play equal to first team all conference guys that i couldnt even say how bad it sucks to put forth such an effort and then lose on an offensive board after totally owning the boards the whole night. for me it is absolutely the crappiest possible way to lose a game.
i cant even imagine how many times i said to my team if they make a great shot to beat us then they make a great shot to beat us but if we lost because we got them to miss a shot and we give up an offensive board y all will have nightmares about that forever. wow glad i am not coaching. gonna leave a bad enough scar as a fan but i bet hendo will have ugly memories about that for long time. do NOT get me wrong it NEVER is all about the last play!!! too often fans and others only remember the last few minutes. but obviously ONE more bucket would have been the difference so there hundred different plays that could make that difference. but that is a particularly IRONIC and sucky way to have this game and this season end

Hi Jackrabbit Fans. Tough one today. Just want to say IMO the program is in great shape and sometimes games like this happen. Have no doubt with no Covid full off-season Jacks will be right back battling for a trip to the dance. Congrats on a great (weird) season. Sorry about how it ended. Sincerely Reach Summit pod

Some people always look to blame the coach for a loss. Others can't help but blame the refs. It doesn't matter who is injured or who shoots out of their mind in classic March-madness style, it's the ignorant coach or those blind refs. That's how it will be until the end of time.
Everyone in the know said that if ORU has one of their good shooting nights they will beat whomever lines up against them in this tournament. They shot 54% from the arc. Fourteen 3's - game over. A super-human effort from Scheierman is the only reason it was even close. He would already be an all-time SDSU legend if we had made 3 or 4 more FT early in the game - that's how amazing his second half was.
It will be interesting having the entire team (as far as we know) return next year. Hopefully Friedel is among them, we sure could have used a couple of his big shots last night.

If SDSU wants to hire someone who can monitor load management I have the credentials.
Nevertheless, I admire you "putting your name out there" for load mgmt. Something tells me you'd either have intense competition, at least one vocal fan board critic, and/or someone consistently sending you journal articles to "educate" you

Have to tip your cap to ORU. The men played their a**es off last night. Every time we'd get close they hit a huge shot but there was no quit. That's a reflection of the coaching/leadership on the team.
I'll take this SDSU team with Freidel back over any team in the conference.

If Appel can learn how to stay out of foul trouble (even a little) he can be a star. His motor seems to run at 100% all the time and that gets him in trouble with fouls and traveling violations. I bet he'll learn to harness that a little the next couple years.

Tip of the cap to ORU, they played unbelievable and hit a ton of shots. It would have felt like we stole one had we won as they outplayed us. I cringe everytime I see the ORU coach, he couldn't be more unlikeable. Credit to the Jacks for hanging in there, I loved the intensity and effort, but too many turnovers proved to be the difference.
The loss sucks, but I like where the program is at. To the posters freaking out, keep in mind, we have 5 tournament appearances and won a stretch of 3 straight summit tournaments, and we went into the last two tournaments without our best player, imo. They will be back.
It doesn't take away the loss, but knowing that the Yotes men have still never advanced further than the Jacks in the summit tournament will make me sleep a little better. It's funny how the storyline is that the Jacks have had recent early exits when the Yotes have been bounced in the same exact round the last 3 years, including a first round exit last year with the preseason pick to run away with the conference.
