  • I wonder if Tray Buchanon saw how short the bench was going to be again which did not include him and decided to opt out. Will be interesting to see if he returns.
Hard to believe Mfum could not earn more than dribble out the game time.

He was still in a boot during the three December Pentagon games.

Well, the Jacks apparently lack an Asst. Director for Sports Performance (which both ORU and NDSU have). Doesn't look like the 'Yotes have one either, but I propose we don't emulate those curs

How, exactly? By putting in players for minutes he knew they couldn't perform at a D-1 level at, and letting them fail? Mfum and Fiegen got only the most garbage of garbage time minutes--obviously the coaching staff couldn't trust them enough to put them in games when those games were still in doubt.

What could Hendo & Co. have done differently? You want Scheierman et all to put in a few less minutes per game. Who do those minutes come from if you can't trust Mfum/Fiegen on the court?

I'm sure you have the correct answer for the choke job in the SLT the last 3 years? This team had the talent to make the finals the last 3 years and has failed each time. Why is that?
Last year we were without the Player of the Year and playing with entirely freshmen and sophs. Fort Wayne made 13 3's.

Tonight we were without a first team all conference talent, along with one of our best bench players. Against the top scorer in the country and top 3-point shooting team in the nation. Who happened to shoot unconsciously tonight. We didn't choke. We didn't play a bad game. Hendo coached a good game, Baylor played an unreal game, Charlie worked his ass off, Dent played a solid game, Doug played a solid game. We lost to a really good team. Could've shot FT's better and turned the ball over a little less. But we lost a great, hard-fought game to an incredibly talented team. They made a few too many shots and that sucked. But that's what happened tonight.

            • Holy Cow, keep grinding AZJack!

Last year we were missing the CPOY. This year we were missing Noah. That ain’t easy to overcome.

Sure, we had a dominant run going in the tourney. The last three didn’t go our way.

ORU played an outstanding game. Tip of the cap. We still damn near pulled it off. ORU was the team I was worried about going in. They’ve got a lot of talent.

Above you said things had better change next year. Change what? Avoid the injury bug? That’d be great but that isn’t on the coach.

JFC, we got beat by a good team. It’s tough. Sucks! That game was a war! Two great teams playing at a high level.

              it didn’t go our way.

              SUPERBUNNY
              MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, BIZUN!!!

Hendo COULD have played Mfum and Fiegen more minutes and seen how they fared in meaningful minutes. He didn't and the Jacks lacked focus in the first half tonight with the poor passes and timid play.

The Jacks lost again in the SLT and the team looked tired. ORU played well, but the Jacks had a ton of mental mistakes in the first half. Might be a reason for that is all I'm saying.

On to next year for the men since the season is over. Again a ton of talent back and hope the Jacks stay injury free.

                  1) I guess we'll just have to disagree that Mfum and Fiegen are at this point even adequate D-I basketball players. From what I see, they're not. You seem to think that they are, at least adequate enough to grab a couple of minutes per game here and there. Assertion of facts not in evidence, IMHO.

                  2) ORU played yesterday. The Jacks had a day of rest. Why didn't ORU look as tired?

(If you want to say off-season conditioning, I'd buy that.)

But the fact is that the Jacks' minutes-per-game don't look a lot different than pretty much every other basketball team on the planet, given the issues with Friedel and Wingett, and Wilson earlier in the year, and Buchanan.

A Jacks team healthy all year and at full strength for this game wins tonight. They weren't. They didn't.

                  • I'm all ears if you want to point out specific X&O criticisms of the coaching staff, but second guessing minute distributions for bench players when they've been in the position to watch these guys perform or not perform in practice all year is something I just can't get behind.

It feels a little like LakeJack's "can't win big games" overreaction, although I think you are doing it more respectfully and with a bit more thought behind your argument.

                    • The Jacks did win the regular season title, but don't forget that going into the final weekend that there were scenarios that could have made us the 5 seed. There was good reason why both Bison and Yote fans were happy that they were on the opposite side of the bracket from ORU.

Agree about coach knowing who is ready, my thing was only keeping everyone very fresh if possible. If not, the team played hard and just had a rough night in the first half.

Not an argument. We all cheer for the Jacks and disagree on the reasons for struggling in the SLT the last 3 years.

Just saying I've been involved with research and real world application of cumulative fatigue that wasn't understood well until recently. I thought it applied here, but don't have any empirical evidence and could be totally off base.
The NBA and MLB have really embraced load management in the last few years and realize that pro seasons are much longer. It can still apply to the college game though in my opinion.

I love Hendo as our coach and the effort the team gave tonight, just looking for a variable to shift the Jack's fortunes. Most organizations operating at a high level do this and I assume the Jacks staff will as well.

This is again where AJ excels, he's a master at self scouting. I'm sure Hendo is good as well.

Really looking forward to next year. Hope Mayo and Lien can contribute right away that leads to a true 9 man rotation in the regular season.

Good point...any of the top 4 were basically even odds in my mind to win the tournament. (Okay, SDSU/NDSU/ORU--I don't think USD can overcome the loss of Plitzuweit). 5 and 6, UND and UMKC, were long shots but still had more than just a prayer, IMHO if they got lucky. (UMKC's inabilities on offense probably made them marginal at best, though.)

Most competitive SL men's BB tournament in a long, long time.

ORU & NDSU are their Strength & Conditioning Coaches. They just gave them a different titles.
If SDSU wants to hire someone who can monitor load management I have the credentials.

That's what I'm already thinking about, too Looking forward to next year, bummed that we can't watch these guys again for a while. We really could use Mayo and Lien to be key guys right away. The league is going to be absolutely loaded, and I hope we can put together all the pieces next season. It sucks a lot it couldn't be this year. Appreciate the discussion and passion as you mentioned earlier. All want to win!

And I still believe that there was no way that Mike Daum was anywhere close to 100 % physically in that first round loss two years ago. There was no other reason why the game plan suddenly seemed to change to basically use. a 3000 point scorer as a decoy. Someone mentioned here earlier that he had a shoulder issue that had to be repaired after that season ended
