I'm in the "WTF are they doing camp" regarding the zone defense, but by no means am I thinking Otz is a bad hire, etc. He definitely lost his composure last night though during that run. I sat right across from the bench and he was super nervous. He's going to learn as a new head coach and there's still a lot of time to get it figured out.
That was illustrated many times when the bison shooter could take the shot within a couple of feet of 2 Jackrabbit defenders and neither player put a hand in his face or advanced the half step to give a notion of defense. The concept that Nagy left because he knew there was a lean year is nearly entertaining. How dare he leave the POY for the new coach. Nagy left because he picked up about 3 times the salary and a shorter drive to see his family. Coach Otz could have waited for a job that would require no decision making and 12 elite athletes to prove his coaching ability.......or not. This is not a team that is 2 years out either. Coach Otz needs to get in the saddle as much or more as the players. The players had a meeting back around the Milwaukee game. Maybe the coaches need to have a similar summit before the Yote game. That takes me back to the discussion about defense since it is unlikely we will have 12 elite offensive players show up before Saturday.

That's all that was left. Seriously there isn't another player on this team that I am looking at and saying "Thank god, we have all this" They all looked like ****, even when we were up by 15, we were sitting there thinking jeezus we should be up by 30 in the first half.

Like I said Otz filled the roster the best he could with the time he had, it will be all good in a year or two.
With fans like this who needs enemas.....

My memory must be fogged over a bit since there are some players that have been to the NCAA tourney and the NIT tourney besides Mike Daum. You are fortunate to have 1 or 2 marquee players per year. The rest is hard work like learning to play defense and not whining about who you do not have. If you think that Telly or Flatten or Thiesen or a few other bench players are not worthy of Coach Otz, it is surprising he would stoop to a job in Brookings. If you looking for faces of disbelief, watch the coaches. They are in charge of that 15 point lead as well. I am surprised that Coach Otz kept any of the carry over players according to your viewpoint. It is my view that Coach Otz is the rookie here and these young men have been playing for a variety of coaches over the years and they have drawn interest of more than one D1 program as players(except Mike Daum who only caught the eye of SDSU coaches). It is time for the coaches to put on their big boy pants and if they wear a zone defense.....make it work.

Waconia obviously needs to hire Ryan Miller.

You know I think you summed it up pretty darn good. Rep pts given. In theory I do agree.

Thank goodness for Waconia's gritty man-to-man defense or things would have gotten out of hand!

As much as I hate watching the Rabbits give up 30 points a night from the three point line maybe our offense is the reason for the persistence with playing zone defense. If Daum gets into foul trouble what happens to our offense if we need to play without him for extended minutes? I'm guessing trying to keep Mike out of foul trouble is part of this coaching decision. Just a thought from the bleachers......

Just made a sales call in V-Town. You can feel the confidence after their victory last night over Omaha. Come on Rabbits let's ruin their final day of 2016.

                  Go Rabbits!

If we're going to be a zone defensive team, that's fine. But does that mean we have to do it 100% of the time & can't mix it up. It makes us easier to prepare for too.

I'm not sure what the answer is, but to your easier to prep for bit. In our first three games we played Ozone we gave up 61.3 pts/game. In the last six it sky rocketed to 81.8 pts/game. I think that somewhat supports your argument. The first two or three games it was new and a surprise to teams. As more tape has become available and teams can prepare for our Ozones they have been less affective.

Those first 3 games were a holiday tournament. Talk about zero time to prepare.

No. I'm pretty sure we rolled the zone out in the final game of the Pentagon Classic against UWM. The next two games were UM-Crookston and UMKC.

We rolled it out in first game at the Pentagon Classic.

Quote from the second game from TJ

On being pleased with defensive efforts in zone ...
"Absolutely, I think last night they made five or six field goals against the half-court, set zone and tonight it was under 10 against a really good offensive team. We're kind of finding our identity with it on the defensive end of the floor, and it's going well for us but we definitely have to cash in on the offensive end because right now playing good defensively but coming out with another loss is not what we're trying to do."

Ok. I couldn't remember but people keep saying we are 1-6 without the zone and 6-3 with the zone. It's more like 1-4 without and 6-5 with. The more I look at it the more I wonder if we would really be this bad defensively using man.

You guys need to be careful with this "Ozone" thing; it's very similar to the Izzone at Michigan State, the name of their student section. You're using it negatively, but it could be stolen for something good if things change (believe me, I'm tempted to steal it for the student section.)
