    WHAT THE WHAT?!?!?

Brayden who, seriously? He'll be remembered. Remembered as a walk on that scored 1000+ pts, played excellent d and was part of arguably the best backcourt in SDSU history. Although I'll say Marshall and Parks have a chance to equal that level of success.

Can you tell me who Jim Sutton is? Well in case you don't know. He played 1954-57 and holds a career record for free throw completion. Something like 86 pct. He is better known for his rodeo stock than for his basketball. We have not seen these results since, but who remembers? A few old guys and that's my point. No slighting towards Brayden was intended. We went to the same high school after all.

Although I wasn't alive I am aware of Jim's basketball success. Albeit it wasn't until I researched him for a project on his success in the rodeo business when I was a freshman. While he's not nearly as recognizable as a Wolters, Tetzlaff, Colburn or Bostic I do not think he'll be forgotten. I also think accessibility to the web leaves more casual fans informed going forward in the future, that and the fact the kid was a hometown feel good story certainly will help. I didn't think you were greatly slighting him(I know your fandom runs deep) I just think in today's world it'll be more difficult to forget the kid who most thought was in over his head when he walked on.

Oh and you graduated from the same district but entirely different buildings.😉

Its fun to think about the all time greats but sometimes I think about the guys who worked their butts off during our dark years to right the ship. Loney and eric heien(sp) etc.
IMO, losing Holdren was addition by subtraction. Same with Andre Gilbert.

Every time I watch the current squad go to the free throw line and throw two bricks or even one brick, I just cringe and think would my hero Jim Sutton do that? One thing that has not changed over the years is the value of the free throw. You have the chance to put points on the board without the clock running. I bet Larry Euchstay would loved to have had a Jim Sutton shoot those missed free throws. Brayden was one of the bests but as time goes on, he is unlikely to be a household name in Jackrabbit nation. Maybe forgotten is an overstatement since you mentioned your research on Jim Sutton. You never know who you are speaking to on this board a lesson that I have had difficulty learning. Yes I have not been in the Brookings High School on Medary except for one or two basketball games.

              Based on what?

He was literally the only legit D1 talent on that team his freshman year. Averaging double figures as a freshmen before he got hurt.

Agree about Gilbert, but Holdren didn't create any off the court issues that I am aware of.

Holdren was a great player with a lot of potential as well as a great kid from a great family. My family at the U of Illinois knows them well. He got homesick and had a chance to return and sit the bench with Illini so he took it. Nothing negative about him, nothing.

                Gilbert, whole different story.....

That's what I remember as well. I also wonder if he doesn't get hurt if he stays. A long way from home and then dealing with surgery and rehab. Would be tough on anyone.

That's why I mentioned holdren. He seemed impressive to me with his drive and shot. Just the injury ruined what could have been for a career at sdsu.

Holdren, in the context of an All-D-I SDSU team, is a non-starter. Just no. Not close.

If you're picking an "all-potential" team, maybe. But potential is not achievement.

Agree, but to say he was a cancer isn't correct either, imo.

I agree. I think he was a kid who decided that SDSU wasn't the right place for him. I don't begrudge him that decision at all. I think he may--in the long run--have been mistaken, but that's water under the bridge.

Steve was basically neighbors with the Illinois head coach who's now at KState. If he doesn't tear his ACL I bet he stays. He was a really nice guy.

Bruce Weber and correct. My aunt and uncle were friends with Holdren's and Weber's. Correct, he almost certainly would have stayed had he not torn his ACL. He would have been one of the all-time greats IMO.
