  • SDSU All Division 1 Team

So my friends and I got in a debate during the game last night about who would be the "All Division 1 Team" at SDSU. We all started at State in the Fall of 2006 so our scope is pretty limited to that time frame. Here is what we came up with and I wanted to see the thoughts of other board members.

1st Team: Wolters, Parks, Sargent, Dykstra, Larson

2nd Team: Marshall, Garrett Callahan, Tellinghuisen, Kai Williams, Fiegen

3rd Team: Matt Cadwell (1 season), Bittle, White, Cordova (1 season), and Ben Beren

This was kind of fun thinking about the past 10 years or so, so I'd love to hear other opinions.

Griff Callahan should be on a list. He was one tough Jackrabbit.

We thought about him as the 3rd team SG, but that really wasn't his position when he was with us, but neither is Bittle's.

Carlson? He was a major part in getting the Jacks back to being successful. Phenomenal shooter and defensive player.

True, but if i am putting together a team, I want Griff on it. He did things that do not show up in the stat line. Always tuff to narrow down a great list.

Good one! We forgot about him. Where would you put him?

We created this with the intention to keep the players at the position that they *mostly* played at SDSU. That is where it got tricky, because out of necessity players often moved or played multiple positions in their time at SDSU.

I would leave Cadwell off. He chose to leave so I would choose to leave him off the list.

Agreed! Griff was such a competitor and did whatever was asked.

Pretty tough to leave Brayden Carlson off of that list. People forget pretty quickly he put up 14.9 PPG last season (16.3 in conference), with similar shooting percentages than Parks and his 13.9 PPG (14.2 in conference) this year.

I'd drop Cadwell and replace him with Carlson, who had a much bigger impact on the program.

Also need to find a spot for Griff Callahan on there somewhere.

Personally, I'd put Brayden Carlson on the 3rd team ahead of Cadwell, Bittle and White.

Starting to agree. I would leave Cadwell off and add in Carlson.

I would put Griff as a "utility player" and have a 16 person roster. haha

That's a tough one with so many deserving guards. I don't know who to replace for Carlson! Probably could swap him with Cadwell...

Re: SDSU All Division 1 Team

Twenty years from now they will be saying Brayden who? Who was he and why is he remembered? That is if he is remembered some how.

With the way the game has changed so much, I really can't put a team together, even for the D1 era.

Add Dale Moss. Telly will be great, but I don't think he's done enough yet to be on the second team. He didn't even start this year until Zach H. got hurt. I question whether any of those other one-year guys -- Cordova and Cadwell -- did enough to earn recognition.

Cadwell in 1 year was a pretty good one year when thing were still looking to get better. Seems he could have had a decent career if his heart was in it. Always felt like holdren was the one that got away. Think he would have been in this type of discussion too.

Its fun to think about the all time greats but sometimes I think about the guys who worked their butts off during our dark years to right the ship. Loney and eric heien(sp) etc.
