We need a huge crowd Thursday night for the IPFW tilt. I'm working on getting my schedule clear so that I'm in the stands at the 7:00 PM tipoff. If there's any way readers of this board can find a way to get to Brookings Thursday, DO IT.

I agree. IPFW has not been a big draw for Jacks fans over the last few years. But, this is a massive game for the Jackrabbit men. Need two wins this week because of upcoming road trips to NDSU, Western. Thursday night won't help with people having to travel on a week night. Students coming out in force will help.

Judging by Sunday women's game against USD, the students were no where to be found. There was a front row that got vocal on free throws, otherwise, they got more fish to fry somewhere else other than at Frost. I am beginning to wonder if SDSU Admin made a mistake by putting them in the end bleachers.

It is the old chicken or the egg debate. The men have had more success bringing in the students. The playing above the rim gets the students into the game. I would expect decent student attendance for this week. I am not certain where the support for the women went that was present 5-10 years ago. As far as students sitting in the end bleachers, it is not unusual to see many arenas reserve at least one end for the students. Many of those venues also have the students a bit lower and closer to the floor. I am not sure how to market to the younger people today or where or how the interest can be found.

In the barn the students had the entire north side bleachers, P
plus any where else. Reserved was small section behind the scorer's
Table. To the student attending a home game was a big deal and attended
in numbers. Times have changed and not for the better. Therewere no
Women's sports back then so it's hard to make a comparison.

The doubleheaders had a lit to do with the women support5-10 years ago. Not everyone can afford to go every thur and sat. So most are choosing the men. As for the students, there are a lot of male students that dont like watching women play bb.

I know that there are some that do not care for women athletes. (If you can find some old film for the women's teams you will see many students enjoying.) I also know 5-8 years ago that between doubleheaders you would see a mass exit of fans before the men's game started. The attendance would show 100 or so more for the men. Either way, there has been a change. It may be the mirror schedule or economy or another change.

I think we are just coming back to the "norm" for women's BB. Schools with even decent WBB attendence are the exception rather than the norm - student or otherwise. The national championship year and the following WNIT years brought new and exciting things to Frost, since then we've been spoiled and are becoming apathetic. The students just seem to be taking the plunge first. Clunky games like yesterday's FT exhibition won't help retain the students that did finally come out.

I was in transit, not driving when I tapped this out on an I phone and gave up. I am hopeless when it comes to texting, but I was going to say in the old days that I missed games because of part-time work and I believe this is still a situation, with nearly every one taking out student loans etc. Go to Applebees or Buffalo Wings and 90 percent of the workers are full time students, plus I truly believe students now days are more focused on goals and grades, so a bunch on Sunday afternoon might have been studying for an exam. In the old days, the students were steps from The Barn, and really did not have anywhere else to go. Plus Brookings Liquore store did not come into being until about 1958. So prior to that, if you wanted a pint, you had drive to Aurora and buy your hard goods. I really don't have answer for student turnout, and if they don't show up, they just might have a very legitimate reason. I hope I wrong about Thursday's turnout.

I would guess that the student (especially male) turnout Sunday was directly related to the number of Super Bowl parties that were happening. If my memory of college days are correct , it doesn't require much to get students to party on a weekend , and yesterday is one of the biggest party days of the year for sports fans.

If we could discover an app for attending BB games, the problem would be solved. I recall that the only need to have a party was that it was a new day. However on a sober note, the kids are an entirely different breed that have different approaches and interests. One thing is easy to see is that the student section gets real loud after the big dunks. There are a few things that stay the same. Good luck to the person who figures how to get students there when the team is not winning every game.

I would rather watch boys basketball over girls basketball anywhere, but I am a basketball fan in general and there isn't much things I hate more than basketball so up to a few years ago I would rather a good girls team over a bad boys team because I just can't watch bad basketball. Now that the boys and girls are good programs I would rather go to/watch the men's team than the women's team. That is just my personal feeling on the change in attendance.

Also, I have been to Super Bowl parties where they tapped the keg at 1 so I feel that would affect student attendance of a game on the day of the Super Bowl.

AHHHHHH, WHAT A DIFFERENCE A WEEK MAKES!!!

Remember last week when the sky was falling? Now we have a chance to move into second place in the conference with a couple of home wins.

This team is starting to come together and there is no way they didn't have a huge confidence jump after the two wins last weekend. The effort was there on the defensive side and they dominated the boards. That is the recipe for success for this team. Keep that up and the sky is the limit.

Have to win the next game. 1-0. I may make it back, 4 hours round trip on a school and work night makes it tough.
